eBay can work very well even for high value items. You can set your account to that only people with a certain level of reputation can buy from you, and you can vet and even cancel bids and sales to shady looking buyers. That said eBay is best for selling unusual things where there are very few potential buyers in your local area. If you are selling something like a MacBook where you're sure to find a local buyer, then you should always price below eBay and conduct a local in-person sale.
@DavidRadkowski2 ай бұрын

I had just financed a Mac Mini along with a 61 key midi controller and a bunch of other recording tech. I sold my old emac I was replacing with the Mini for $50 on Craigslist. When the guy came, I told him about all the sweet new gear I financed. This was during my lunch break. While I was at work for the rest of the day, he kicked open my apartment door and stole my entire computer setup, recording gear, and a priceless nylon string acoustic I had. I hadn't even made the first payment yet on my new stuff. I called the cops, but they could care less. I saw the thief's girlfriend driving in front of my place (there was more stuff in my place they wanted to steal but didn't get a chance to) and was yelling at the cops to go pull her over, but they just carried on writing up their paperwork. Lessons learned were to pay closer attention to the type of buyer (they offered to trade me weed half way through the transaction over text message), and that I shouldn't let anyone know about my work schedule (I told them I'd meet up with them for the emac sale during my lunch break) nor about my new purchases. Haven't owned a Mac since, although I really wanted one. 15 years have passed and it still stings.
