25 /7/ 2021 Statement from Satakunta Osprey project about Ossi & Alma's two relocated chicks:
Many have asked about the two babies of Ossi and Alma moved to the second nest as a result of the unfortunate events on Midsummer Eve. The chicks were ringed and investigated during the move.
The inspector of the nest visited the scene and found that one of the chicks had passed away. It was surprising that the deceased baby was the one who survived the raven attack with seemingly minor injuries. The cause of death of the baby was no longer able to be concluded at that point. The relocated chick has a yellow ring SRS, which was added during the relocation. On Thursday 22.7 SRS was photographed in flight near the nest, so this story seems to have a happy ending.
Midsummer's Eve events showed once again that anything can happen at the nests approach something you can't possibly prepare for. Hopefully Ossi will find a good partner for next year. A good sign is that Ossi has not abandoned his nest place due to setbacks, but has lived there in the last few days. And best of all, we've also seen females with Ossi on the nest. Next spring we'll see how the story continues in Ossi's nesting swamp.
The presence of ravens at Ossi's nesting swamp has also sparked discussion. However, they have been living in the same areas for a long time and they haven't been more harmful to the weather. The weathers have been nesting in that nest continuously since 2005; the first failure came only the other year as a result of a visit tby a goshawk and the second setback this year because of the raven.

Note: this is a remote nest cam livestream, no camera operators are nearby. Heartbreaking tragedy for Alma and Ossi and their three chicks - around 10.45 today Alma is attacked on the nest by a raven, she tries to fight it off to protect her chicks and is injured. The raven returns, attacks first one chick then a second, then returns to attacking the first one and wounds it fatally before being forced away by Ossi. Disturbance is seen in the distance in the trees in front of the nest, nest cam operator zooms in and an Osprey can just be seen trying to fly but not succeeding. Then a fox comes along, a fight ensues before the fox naturally wins and is seen carrying Alma off. All the while heartbreaking cries are heard which must be Ossi, witness to the tragedy but unable to do anything to save his mate.
It seems Alma must have injured herself flying after the raven to protect her chicks - it's thought perhaps she caught her wing on a tree in the forest, was unable to fly, landed on the ground and was then vulnerable to attack by the raven. The raven had to fight her for a long time before it was satisfied she wasn't coming after him and so was able to return to the nest and attack the chicks, killing one and wounding another before Ossi came screaming in to force it off the nest.
Cam operator then pulls back and the two surviving chicks, one injured, are seen next to the body of their sibling. What will happen to them now? Will the injured one survive, will the raven return, Ossi be able to look after them on his own? Just heartbreaking but sadly, this is what happens in nature. The darker side of nest cam watching..
25/6/2021 Statement from Satakunta Osprey Project:
The progress of nesting became virtually impossible after Alma's death. Such small chicks cannot be flown by an Osprey male alone, i.e. fed, defended and protected from heat. Numerous experts were consulted on the follow-up and it was finally concluded that the only option for the larger chicks is in another nest.

The nest is located in the Satakunta region in Western Finland. Ospreys have nested there since 2005. The male Osprey, Ossi, has inhabited the nest since 2014. He has a ring on his right leg and according to the ringing data he hatched in Karkku, Sastamala in 2009. Alma, the female, doesn’t have a ring and therefore her age and hatching location are unknown.
In 2019 Alma and Ossi’s nesting failed due to a Goshawk attacking the nestlings. Nevertheless, the pair returned the following year and raised three fledglings. Since 2017 Alma and Ossi have raised a total of eight fledglings.
