I ordered the same bike, but in large size, two days ago, before seeing your video. I've come across a couple of fine videos about the Summit 1 (and plenty of poor ones), but yours perhaps has been the best. Good work! I have one question and one observation. Question: You say you are getting a new fork; which will it be? Observation: Does Chicago traffic law permit bike riders to race through stop signs? 😊
@scotthardesty
@scotthardesty 5 ай бұрын
Actually, they do permit bike riders to go through stop signs, especially when there is no other traffic. I've seen some crazy dudes cruise thru stop signs but no way am I doing that. I only do it when it's safe. I did order a new fork as I blew out the stock one during the mtb test. So I ordered one that can handle my weight and the abuse I put on these bikes.

This is the 2nd best ebike imo I've seen you test. It would make a great backup to my Aventon Aventure2. I don't do trails, but roads here are frequently frost heaved, and I also have to steer around lots of pothole patches. The Velotric comes with a large frame, I'm 6'5", so that's a good match. My Aventon is also a large frame and rides great with 4" tires, but they do make it hard to ride (actually impossible at my age) without using pedal assist because of resistance. The slightly narrower tires on the Velotric Summit1 would be a benefit there. Just quickly, how much would fenders and rear rack cost on top of the $1799?

You are correct in your thoughts that with the Summit, you can purchase upgrades (dropper seat post, front forks) and still have less money than you would with the Ramblas. If you are rocking with tubes, did you fill these tires with FlatOut? I am astounded that it was you who replied to me about this on that Aventon Aventure 2 video review over a year ago! That's also how I discovered FlatOut! Between the Aventure 2 and the Velotric Summit 1, which do you prefer for rugged commuting during a snowy and slippery winter as well as ease of storage assuming one can upgrade the handlebars and what is your favorite? The Velotric Summit 1 will be my very first e-bike come this winter to replace my electric scooter for multi-modal commuting after owning only electric scooters for over a year now and coming from a non-powered cycling background! I have been following e-bikes for over 2 years now but still never bought one since I need to find the perfect one to suit me and my needs as my e-scooters so far has filled that role and I am now ready to drastically extend my mileage and my safety on the road! My e-scooter is IP66 rated and this Velotric Summit 1 is IP67 so its the most logical choice and upgrade for my commute and adventures!

Yes. In this video I have tubes, I always put FlatOut in my bikes. I did some upgrades to the Summit and did go tubless. I also FlatOut as the sealant. Of course I will answer. If you take the time to leave a comment, I am going to take the time to answer back. I cannot speak on how this bike handles in the winter yet. I am sure I will do a video testing it's snow capabilities when the time comes. Compared to my Aventure 2, this bike is more nimble and just a blast to ride in the city and light trails. I have a video coming up showing it having issues on single track but for what you plan to use the bike for, it will be perfect. Both bikes store the same, although the Summit feels like it takes up less room with its thinner tires. Not sure that is actually the case but that's how it feels. They had me sent it back as the fork could have had an issue and they want to inspect it. Either way, I purchased an upgraded fork and waiting for it to come in.

The problem with y'alls reviews for all the same you know it should be more about pedal assist and how far you can go on a battery instead of how fast you can go using the thumb throttle is not a review. We want to see how far a bike can go on peda don't get likes and you don't get thumbs up for being a parent repeating what everybody's done done. Another word just videos no different than the others kind of useless really watch one watch them all. How fast they can deplete a battery because of thumb control

Hey champ. Sound like the perfect opportunity for you start doing reviews yourself covering the things you think we all lack. I don't want to be a a bike for 60 miles in PAS 1. Let me know when your review is done and I will be the first to watch it. Also, I pedaled this bike way more than I used the throttle.

Stop manipulating the masses into dropping nearly $2k on a cheap piece of garbage that very well may blow up. You can get a Specialized Tero for around $100 more. Let me guess… they gave you the bike for free and gave you a list of things to say that the advertising team conjured up? Don’t be fooled, folks.

If you don’t like it, that’s what the fast forward is for. KZbin isn’t an 8 track player. Some people want to see all the individual modes like me.

I certainly prefer a quality mid drive to a hub drive but hubs have their place. A hub drive is much better suited for the casual rider who have little understanding of when/how to change gears. These types of bikes are marketed to casuals, not true cyclists, and they are great for that market.

@@Scomelbasses There's nothing wrong with being a "casual". Not everyone has the desire or time to dedicate to being a "true cyclist". For some riding is just one of many hobbies, or a good opportunity to get outdoors. No reason to be a gate keeper. Mid drive motors are also a lot more expensive.

@@seanyboston that was the point of my post, there's nothing wrong with hub drives or being a casual rider for whom hub drives are better suited than mid drives. My comment was toward the post that said hub drives suck. I prefer mid drives but like both.

Velotric Customer Service does not recommend that mods or changes be made to the Summit 1 bike. They will not advise as to any changes and will void their warranty if the customer makes any mods or changes . Velotric Customer service takes forever to resolve even the smallest warranty claims and ships parts by the slowest methods possible. I would not buy products made by Velotric. The bike is not dropper-post ready and they contract out their customer service, so you do not speak with a real Velotric employee and they are not helpful

Let's say I have a controller issue. At no point, have I eve had a company ask me what mods I have done to the bike. As a matter of fact, there has not been a single bike manufacturer not give me a warranty item because I have done mods to the bike. Changing out tires, grips, pedals, seats, does not void a warranty. I am sorry that you have had a bad experience but I doubt they have asked you what mods you have done to the bike.
