WARNING: THIS MAY PUT YOU OFF CAMPING
With Halloween JUST around the corner, this is extremely coincidental timing! Me and my dog went for an overnight camping adventure in the woods. As soon as we got to the woods, Yedi began acting in a manner I hadn’t seen before. She was weary, uncomfortable about being in the area. I thought we were alone. Yedi knew otherwise.
🐾 PAWS FOR THE CAUSE -
We are on Buy Me A Cofee to give you guys the first look at new content and exclusive content! And here’s the kicker - there is no membership and the money you donate doesn’t go to me. It goes to the hundreds upon hundreds of stray dogs we feed on the streets every day! We can’t feed them all, but we try! So “paws” for the cause and join the pack!

Keep your Torch off if you suspect something or someone is around your camp, it will affect your ability to see clearly. Get down low, do not move and take in your surroundings through hearing and attuning your eyes to the dark. Whoever was near you applied these principles, you put your torch on and they were in cover and still, when your torch was off they were moving. You have to take in all senses of the dark, you’ll be amazed how tuned in you become my friend. She’s a great Dog her too. Stay Safe out there and keep your boots on just in case you have to get away, fight etc, no good in that terrain in your socks!!

Or go RED at night, red lights and torches dont impact night vision and greatly limits distance of you being visible unless they are using NVGs. Military practice night ops. I also know a lot of non military now using that tech. Not a bad investment, a barking and restless dog will surely give your position away, not only to humans but to other animals as well. We can open carry here so not many are dumb enough to wanna play “Lets sneaky up on me” in the woods games here.

Exactly right. I noticed right off how Yeti was telling her companion, all day long and into the night, that something was off. The camper, it appears, noticed it as well and yet chose to ignore her multiple warnings. This fun outing could have ended with an unfortunate outcome. I learned decades ago to always trust your dog. Me too. Mine stopped still when we were just starting to go down a trail through a wooded area the other day. She looked up at me, and started slowly moving forward but with an expression that said she wasn’t happy and then stopped again. I was also getting the “heebie jeebies”. I scanned the area and couldn’t see anything amiss. Took another few steps forward and then we looked at each other like “this feels off to me, feels off to you?” and we both noped out of there. Probably nothing but better to trust our senses and wonder if we were wrong, than carry on and find out we were right!

Yikers! I’m a solo female camper in the USA & I take my German shepherd & 2 Malinois/Labrador mixes, my bear spray, mace & my pew pew. I’ve also survived being kidnapped so…..yeah. Always trust your dog! Take a strong flash light that’ll light up the woods around you. I also always take solar lights to leave up around camp at night just to have a little sight. I take men’s sized 13 shoes to set outside my tent & extra chairs to set up so it looks like more people are there. My vehicle is always close enough for a quick escape if needed. I camp differently these days than I used to.

I have a Workkos 5,000 lumen pocket flashlight. But it also has the strobe effect. I like the strobe effect because it does two different types of strobe flashes so that you can't get used to it. It'll go from a somewhat quick flash patter to just this really fast blinking. And it does the strobe at 2000 lumens. As well as the pew pew light on my pew pew which is 800 lumens.

When solo camping I always set up trip alarms approaching my site. Can be done inexpensively with everyday items, or you can purchase them online. You can spend your money or do like me and use fishing line and old tin cans or a few small bells. I've even used mousetraps before. If you want to go more elaborate there are dozens of videos on YT showing how to make a multitude of different types. And of course invest in a good strong flashlight that can penetrate and light up a wooded area.

Yedi found the house the pup was in, pup was fine but it struck me like..pups get homes so easy, take the mother, she’s been out there for longer, working hard for her puppies. Anyway I’m rambling! In my younger days I used fishing line with jingle bells tied on to surround my campsite in areas where an intruder might happen upon us. This was mostly for bears back then, but nowadays I'm sure it would alert you (and especially your dog) to human interlopers as well. And speaking of the here and now, I've seen those little high decibel alarms online that are activated when the trigger (a straight piece of metal with a loop on one end) is pulled out - and they are LOUD! Would most probably scare off whatever or whomever tripped the alarm. I've even heard of some people using solar flood lights that are motion activated as a means of portable security. Though, I'm not sure a light coming on would wake me up from a sound sleep. But then again, it would probably alert your dog and therefore, you. Well, these are just a few suggestions to make a trip into the outdoors a bit safer. (I recently saw a portable solar electric fence on Amazon, for use in bear country, but I'm not sure I'd want to pack a battery around everywhere I go.....?!) Oh, and where are you camping in this video? Looks interesting..

I always listen to my cat. She’s part dog I think 😂 Told me there was a prowler in the garden around our house. She successfully scared them off from inside the glass. Ready to rip them a new one. I heard them run away when I turned the outdoor lights on.

That’s one cool cat! Personally I wouldn’t want to get into with a cat, the sheer speed, sharpness of nails and teeth, that’s a losing battle! 😂

Nothing like a dig to keep you safe...alwrting and defensive barks, warming blanket on a freezing night to finding the way home when some how you get very disoriented, even the compass fails Man's best friend, womans too . Yep like a wild animal, some nights we just dont get much sleep...we are the prey ( in a sense) for an unknown predator. Thanks for sharing, you di a great job

I camped at a camp site with people who hosted over us. Pitched my tent.. it was windy. The next morning I woke up with a gold peg in the ground. Someone wanted me to know they were so close they could have hurt me. I turned it in to the couple who hosted. Very disappointing.. freaky

She saved your life. When she starts acting like that. Pay closer attention. She can see better in the dark and smell better. She will always know before you will. It was clear she was picking up something that should not have been there but was there the whole time. Even when you were heading out to camp she was acting like that. Stopping and looking back. Her hearing is also better. Just be careful.

G'day mate. Same shit happened to me about a year ago. Woke up twice to the sound of clear footsteps. First time, around 2am. Listened, then called out and the noise stopped. Fell back asleep. 2nd time at 3.10am. Same deal. Clear footsteps. Dog growling. Heart racing. Called out. And then nothing. But all my instincts said something was wrong. So, took a huge deep breath, grabbed my dive knife and torch and ran out my tent as quick as I could. As soon as I did, I saw two people (a man and a woman) standing about two meters from my tent. No torches. No hello. Luckily for me they ran away when I came out and I'm glad they did. Cos I wasnt expecting to find two strangers there and was kind of frozen. I've thought about it since and it freaks me out to think, they were in or around my tent for over an hour before I saw them. And doing what? Cos, I don't camp at popular places. This was remote. Anyways. I didn't camp solo again for 6 months. All I'm saying is, be careful mate. Pays to be prepared and little paranoid. All the best.
