Keep your Torch off if you suspect something or someone is around your camp, it will affect your ability to see clearly. Get down low, do not move and take in your surroundings through hearing and attuning your eyes to the dark. Whoever was near you applied these principles, you put your torch on and they were in cover and still, when your torch was off they were moving. You have to take in all senses of the dark, you’ll be amazed how tuned in you become my friend. She’s a great Dog her too. Stay Safe out there and keep your boots on just in case you have to get away, fight etc, no good in that terrain in your socks!!

Or go RED at night, red lights and torches dont impact night vision and greatly limits distance of you being visible unless they are using NVGs. Military practice night ops. I also know a lot of non military now using that tech. Not a bad investment, a barking and restless dog will surely give your position away, not only to humans but to other animals as well. We can open carry here so not many are dumb enough to wanna play “Lets sneaky up on me” in the woods games here.

Always trust your dog! Take a strong flash light that’ll light up the woods around you. I also always take solar lights to leave up around camp at night just to have a little sight. I take men’s sized 13 shoes to set outside my tent & extra chairs to set up so it looks like more people are there. My vehicle is always close enough for a quick escape if needed. I camp differently these days than I used to.

She looked up at me, and started slowly moving forward but with an expression that said she wasn’t happy and then stopped again. I was also getting the “heebie jeebies”. I scanned the area and couldn’t see anything amiss. Took another few steps forward and then we looked at each other like “this feels off to me, feels off to you?” and we both noped out of there. Probably nothing but better to trust our senses and wonder if we were wrong, than carry on and find out we were right!

You can spend your money or do like me and use fishing line and old tin cans or a few small bells. I've even used mousetraps before. If you want to go more elaborate there are dozens of videos on YT showing how to make a multitude of different types. In my younger days I used fishing line with jingle bells tied on to surround my campsite in areas where an intruder might happen upon us. This was mostly for bears back then, but nowadays I'm sure it would alert you (and especially your dog) to human interlopers as well. And speaking of the here and now, I've seen those little high decibel alarms online that are activated when the trigger (a straight piece of metal with a loop on one end) is pulled out - and they are LOUD! Would most probably scare off whatever or whomever tripped the alarm. I've even heard of some people using solar flood lights that are motion activated as a means of portable security. Though, I'm not sure a light coming on would wake me up from a sound sleep. But then again, it would probably alert your dog and therefore, you. Well, these are just a few suggestions to make a trip into the outdoors a bit safer. (I recently saw a portable solar electric fence on Amazon, for use in bear country, but I'm not sure I'd want to pack a battery around everywhere I go.....?!) Oh, and where are you camping in this video? Looks interesting..

You need a black string round the camp at ankle height with bells on and then one at 60cm height. These are very hard to see on the dark even with a torch. G'day mate. Same shit happened to me about a year ago. Woke up twice to the sound of clear footsteps. First time, around 2am. Listened, then called out and the noise stopped. Fell back asleep. 2nd time at 3.10am. Same deal. Clear footsteps. Dog growling. Heart racing. Called out. And then nothing. But all my instincts said something was wrong. So, took a huge deep breath, grabbed my dive knife and torch and ran out my tent as quick as I could. As soon as I did, I saw two people (a man and a woman) standing about two meters from my tent. No torches. No hello. Luckily for me they ran away when I came out and I'm glad they did. Cos I wasnt expecting to find two strangers there and was kind of frozen. I've thought about it since and it freaks me out to think, they were in or around my tent for over an hour before I saw them. And doing what? Cos, I don't camp at popular places. This was remote. Anyways. I didn't camp solo again for 6 months. All I'm saying is, be careful mate. Pays to be prepared and little paranoid. All the best.

Most interesting camping video all the other ones don’t pull you in like this one did. The way your dog was acting set the stage. Glad you were both ok

Always trust your dog, when in the woods. My little dog barked and tugged on the leash to get me out of the woods. I listened. We have bears!!

the great thing about a mini pin is they are small enough to even carry in your arms , they are very aggressive when it comes to home security , you can buy one with no papers for about $300-$400 dollars which is cheap for one of these guy's for the bang you get, yup they are worth their weight in gold !

At the 13:08 and 13:30 marks ,there is a small light just past you on the right side of the vid. Barely noticeable, especially cuz you are panning as it shines.
