Like I've said before you're probably (IMO) in the top 3 best fishing YT channels there is. Thank you so much, I've picked up a lot of valuable info. that has improved my fishing tremendously!!!!

I love using a tube. I find that the old "chattertube" is a great way to entice those stubborn fish who don't want to commit. And that is the same exact process I use to tie my Texas rigs from start to finish. I always peg my weights. I don't want a plug knocker swinging free, after all.
@stoneysdead689
@stoneysdead689 2 жыл бұрын
I used to peg my T. rig every time as well- and I kept wondering why everyone else was catching more on the rig than me- finally figured it out, stop pegging the weight every time. A pegged rig falls all the way to bottom under the influence of the sinker- in other words weight down, tail pointed at the surface, usually straight down or with a slight pendulum back towards us. An unpegged rig falls this way about 2/3rds of the way down- then it stalls, changes to the horizontal position, and then the action changes- it slowly flutters or glides to bottom- depends on what it is. It's that stall and change of action that I think gets us so many bites. If you're punching veg. you don't have a choice- peg it, but if I'm in open water I will never peg a rig.
@LowBrowFishing
@LowBrowFishing 2 жыл бұрын
@@stoneysdead689 Each angler has their preferences, for sure. That is true, a weight certainly does dictate how a bait falls. And most of the time I want mine to go straight down. I use unsalted baits because I want them to float. That pegged weight keeps my bait sticking straight up and down underwater and I can use just a little action to get that tail to wiggle, much like a shaky head. As I mentioned before, I used to not peg my weights, but after personally watching that weight knock hooks out of fish's mouths on a head shake, I switched and never looked back. I'm landing many more fish than I used to. It's what works for me. If you feel more comfortable and confident letting your weight slide free, then you should absolutely continue to do that.

I have been following a tip I learned from Bill Lowen on tubes. I just bend the hook out slightly and have increased my hook up ratio significantly. He also showed me how to insert the hook at a slightly offset angle and I can get several more bites before the bait is no longer usable.

Johnny that's mod # 2 that I think is obsolete now to what some of the Pros do. Call Southern Reel Outfitters and maybe Scott will show you the way he showed me, then you can do a new video and you will not have to worry about the compressing of the tube. I hate that I just learned this but I'm on here to learn and share. It is truly bass pro secret and he has a good story as how this new way to rig a tube bait came about. The neat thing too is you can use any tube even if it doesn't have the think head part. I'm fishing MR.Bass of Arkansas and met a Texas collegiate fishing friend of yours now resides in Greenbriar,AR area first name Dale great young man.

I used to use those tube hooks all the time for tubes and short baits. I lost a bunch of fish...often fighting them for a few seconds to right to the boat and it was as if they just opened their mouth and let the bait go.... Extremely puzzling and frustrating....then the epiphany: on those tube hooks, Gamgatsu is one for example, the hook point is in the same plane as the keeper or close to it. This results in many fish being skin hooked in the roof of the mouth or even not popping the hook of the texposed rig. Since then, I use straight shanked or regular worm hooks as much as possible. There are a few tube hook brands and types that have the hook point offset from the keeper so those are preferred. Now I have a bunch of tube hooks not in use so likely I'll try to bend them out of plane to see if I can do that without weakening the hook while still getting positive hook bite.

The Trokar tube hook is the absolute best hook for a tube in my opinion, plus it’s awesome on speed craws and just about anything. I’ve tried EWG. The problem with the trokar tube hooks is they go out of stock as soon as tackle warehouse gets them. Good video

your impressive and I like that you are not using 200$ reels.
@stoneysdead689
@stoneysdead689 2 жыл бұрын
Imo you are one of the very few- if not the only- people on KZbin who gets the fact that the rod is far, far, far more important than the reel. Not just the rod either, almost everything we use is more important. The reel just needs to be functional- that's it, as long as it casts, retrieves, and has a decent drag- and will dial in and not backlash to a reasonable point- it's great. And you can get all of the above out of 40-50 dollar reels all day. Will they tear up sooner than a 400-dollar reel- yes, but not so soon as to be a problem. They last for a reasonable amount of time- 2-3 seasons usually. But then I've had one that lasted over 10 years- and it's still working right now- a Black Max from Walmart. So- it all works out in the end. And I have news for you- those 400$+ reels tear up to- they don't last forever. And imo they cost so much more that if they tear up even twice in your fishing career- you would've been better off buying the 50 dollar reels. I say save your money buying all those fancy reels and invest instead in really top of the line rods, line, and hooks. You'll catch more because having the proper rod/line/hook setup means you get the best action out of the baits you use and that they maintain the proper depth. You'll land more because- well, that's obvious. And you'll save in the end I think, or at least be able to invest the money you do spend more wisely.
