I was a sapper during my service in the army and I can totally confirm; the bureaucracy behind mining is extremely meticulous in the Finnish army. Every single training mine (15kg of round concrete antitank mine, real one is 10kg of tnt) we put in the ground came along with us after the training and if you haven't tried, you couldn't imagine how hard it is to find a 30cm diameter olive green object from the ground even though it would be just 2cm of dirt on top of it. So yeah, you learn from experience of searching for that last damned mine for 3hours that next time you mark everything extremely clear and accurate so the next poor bastard that has to dig up the mine has a chance of doing so without blowing themselves up in the process. ^^

Problem is its never just started by a handfull of people. There are leaders that champion the idea, but the greater majority has to either be in agreeance or not oppose the idea. Because otherwise while those who want war are fighting those who dont are left at home to rebel. We love to think "only putin wants this war." But in realiry thousands upon thousands of Russians agree with it. Otherwise they would turn on Putin, they would surrender to Ukraine etc....."Oh but if they surrended they they will be shot in the back!" Yeah and who would do that? Its done by people who are for the war. Its never one man, its a majority oppinion. And even those who oppose tend to turn a blind eye to it instead of truely oppossing it.

The math for Finnish landmines has been clear the entire time we have been in the Ottawa treaty for those who have actually thought the issue true. The concern with landmines isn't that they'll be laid out intentionally on a permanent basis, it's their potential for accidental collateral. Just to add my 2 cents as a reservist in finnish army who was taught how to use anti-personnel mines in 90s during conscript training. This was before Finland became part of the Ottawa treaty. Personally I considered joining it questionable as the arguments weren't very realistic in our context. First the basic two anti-personnel mines were very simple. The explosive was same in both and highly likely easy to redo (and possibly they might even exist still since finnish army has very hoarding mentality). The detonators for them likely exists as well as they were used in other mines. The body of the mines were also very simple and very easy and rapid to produce in high numbers. So I wouldn't be surprised if we would be able to create the mines back in very rapid pace should the decision be made. The use of mines was very detailed. In most cases their main purpose is to either defend an area from infantry in defensive positions or make it harder to clear a minefield where there are anti-tank mines as well. I won't go into detail but there were bunch of specific rules we were to follow when making mine fields, to help them be cleared afterwards. If Finland were to take their use again, we very likely wouldn't use them to create "permanent" minefields in finnish border.

The Ottawa treaty withdrawl plan from Finland is difficult. I understand that Finland may want to use them, for them specifically it would be a great defense benefit. However landmines are some of the most evil, terrible and disgusting conventional weapons that exist. But given that Russia uses them themselfs, makes that 2nd argument a lot weaker.

If the people of Finland democratically vote in favour of installing a stripe of land mines along their own border in their own land, and take responsibility for educating their own people and also tourists about the hazards and how to identify and avoid that area, then I don't see how it's anyone else's business. Obviously if they started deploying land mines in anyone else's territory, that would be unacceptable. But what they do in their own land is to a large degree their own business.

Mines are an interesting topic because of how far tech has come. With mines that can now self defuse after X time, or are only triggered by remote signal the risk of them killing after a war is over plummet. Just GPS alone is a big bump, back in the day it was unthinkable to be able to accurately track where every mine was, now each soldiers civilian phone has GPS accurate to 1 foot.

Theres something I don't understand when it comes to heating shortages in any nation. Why don't they just start buying thermal clothing and wearing multiple layers to stay warm? I do this and even the coldest of days aren't that bad to me, it would minimize the amount of people who actually need heating devices due to not generating sufficient body heat.

No amount of morality will make everyone quit using drugs. Alcohol and caffeine are also drugs that are addictive, do we declare war on coffee shops? Should we be sending special forces to destroy the vinyards of Tuscany? Legalize, regulate, and provide healthcare, instantly the cartels have no business to fight over. PS where are the cartels getting all the guns? The only country where its legal for private citizens to buy assault rifles, the USA

It's laughable. Warfronts is barely in my subscriptions. About to just kick it out. Can barely stand the terrible audio quality on each video to begin with. That coupled with the speaker's apparent inability to speak consistently. He'll say one phrase so slow, then the next three words might as well be one, and I have to play a guessing game as to what those quick words were. I play most of my videos at 1.45x to 1.75x speed (because I'm an info addict (?), and that means more info within a day(I guess?)), but not this channel. No, this channel is always played at original speed because I only have trouble understanding this particular "speaker" out of all of KZbin. I just watched a video about an ancient insect from a channel with about *500* subscribers that had better audio.

Drones with thermal imaging seem an ideal complement to Finnish land mines. They could also contribute to Cartel destruction. Several years ago, a company experimented with keep small airplanes with high resolution cameras circling over a few cities. IIRC, Baltimore MD was one. Following a kidnapping, murder, carjacking, or bank robbery, the videos could be reviewed. What vehicles were in the area? Where did they come from? Where did they go? Who did they rendezvous with? It was very effective, but privacy concerns outweighed crime reduction. If politicians weren't on the take, I suspect the beleaguered citizens of Caribbean and South American countries might have different priorities.

I liked more of the idea of making an untouched forest wall in the border. it would work as natural reservate, but also as defensive formation. atm even the areas near the border are full of roads that enemy can use since forest industry does their things there. this would also leave many of our endangered species alone there without human influence.

So... You want to ignore that fact that without the Soviets and the Chinese being used as literal meat sponges for Axis bullets, you want the US to suffer more casualties or even an actual defeat? Take note, D-Day relied on the Germans being distracted by the Soviet offensive (Operation Bagration) to succeed; if not then a souped-up Battle of the Bulge would happen. Or worse, nukes be used over Europe...

The pipeline between Ukraine and Romania is a 2 way system. Russian supply from the North, and "via Turkey" from the South. Moldova is complaining they have to pay higher prices via the Southern route. Transnistria has never paid for gas till now, and they may have to sell-up to anyone, and buy an air-ticket to Russia. By "anyone" I mean, "you have a Russian Passport, so here is a free ticket" in trade for your property.
