But the Indians who comment here haven’t learnt their lesson, until India is secular and respects minorities, it will continue on the path of growth. If not, it will follow Pakistan soon. A few things I noticed when I lived in Pakistan. First off, foreigners always pay the country's bills, because the ruling elite have no interest in contributing anything to the country. Second, corruption is rampant, from the very top to the bottom, trust is virtually non-existent. Thirdly, Pakistan is a remarkably divided country - a myriad of different ethnicities, languages, religious factions as well as politics mean the country is often described (by its own people) as a mob, not a nation. Fourthly, the education system is abysmal and we underestimate the damage done by bad education to a society. Fifth, Pakistan is remarkably reslient. Even Pakistanis are surprised that it has kept together for so long under massive stresses and strains. Finally, it is a deeply angry society (they have a lot to be angry about), it doesn't take much to spark a riot, but it always seems to calm down after a time. As bad as the condition of the country is, it has a habit of surviving when even Pakistanis have written it off. My guess is that it will be around for a long time yet. Of course, I could be wrong...

@@PewterThos I agree...the more goes wrong, the more precarious it becomes. But everybody (and I'm not talking about ordinary people) have a lot to lose if it does go south. The Army risks being greatly diminished (especially if the borders are redrawn) and if the economy REALLY tanks, cos they won't get the equipment they claim to need. Politicians (who, like the Army, don't want change) risk losing a situation that doesn't challenge their economic dominance or their access to the perks of being ultra wealthy and relatively powerful, both socially & economically. The religious establishment run a risk of being replaced by more fundamentalist (believe it or not, Pakistan is not as fundamentalist as we think...there are some VERY loud, armed, voices who have been too useful to the...'establishment') forces, which is always a risk in a revolution. When everyone quietly agrees things must stay exactly as they are, they find a way to pull back from the brink. Until they don't, of course.

Please do not mock my country and its people. We are at an all-time low here. Every single commoner will agree that India and Bangladesh are doing so much better than us. I wanted us to succeed, I wanted Pakistan to be considered a country where there's an opportunity to grow. I expected so much from my country. For Pakistan to ever succeed, we will need to start from ground up 75 years ago as an honest country with honest people. We need a hard reset button because there's no other way, I see anything changing anytime soon. I pray we learn from Turkey and bring a revolution. I pray we learn from India that we actually strive for a country that people want to be in, I pray we learn from Bangladesh and value knowledge and sciences above if they have shoes to go to university or not. I pray to Allah, please fix us.

Yes. But India too is a cruel joke in itself. Indians don't like to hear it, but from an outside perspective the culture is not much different. Any invasion by U.S.A is bad, only monsters (or idiots) say that they are justified. Maybe the USA shouldn't impose their shitty imperialist and exploitative practices on third world countries, whether it's central America, Iraq, Afghanistan, south east Asia or south America so that these countries don't go into a heavy arms preparation phase just to defend their country against imperialism. The world should not be run by industrialist capitalist overlords. Come to think of it, USA hasn't stopped anything with their invasions, they just exaggerated stuff about rival countries, like Vietnam's aggression on us and south Vietnamese forces and tech, the chemical weapons and of Saddam along with his murder/genocide of Kurds, the communist imperialism/jingoism of countries like Nicaragua and Guatemala. Speaking as a regular Pakistani, unfortunately this country will never die. It will keep eating itself. The Army elites will get richer. The regular people will get poorer. The Army will take advantage of the sadly uneducated majority, and manipulate them with jingoism, religion and painting someone or the other as the enemy, while overseas Pakistanis get to feel superior about their morality as they support the religion dominated "government". Pakistan's plan of constantly transporting their nukes around in unmarked vehicles sounds basically like a budget, land-based version of the US's Operation Chrome Dome, which was when they had a bunch of B-52 bombers armed with nukes flying around the US (and Canada and Greenland) in a constant, never-ending circuit. However, what makes Pakistan's strategy particularly puzzling is it renders the question of why they even have nukes in the first place. By transporting them in unmarked vehicles that look like civilian vehicles, they are almost certainly not going to be launch-capable. They would need to travel to a launch site in the event of an emergency that warranted a nuclear strike, which would take time and be potentially too late by the time it gets to the site.

It also led to the forced expelling of all religious minorities from the region now known as Pakistan, to the point that their minority count went from above 20% to less than 2%. Despite this, they're unwilling to take in all the muslims from neighbouring countries, claiming that their neighbours should abide by secular values and treat their muslim minorities as equal. And while i do completely agree that any civilized nation must abide by secular values and treat minorities with equality and respect, that simply goes to show that Pakistan doesn't deserve the title of a civilized nation, since it was founded on the very idea that that couldn't be done, and continues to live by that same idea today.

What I've observed recently is this game is probably bigger than we think. The British knowingly carved out a historically vital geo-political location to keep their check in the region and on India's growth just like they did with Israel in the Middle East. Since the 50s US, which has acted as an ideological and strategic ally of the UK, took forward the mission by increasing defense ties with Pakistan and using them to fight their wars in the region. Apart from them, China as well benefits greatly with their partnership with them as it helps them counter their biggest regional and increasingly global competitor India. So what I derive from all this is Pakistan may end as nation state in the near future but the region will remain unstable for sure. Their only peace is with India, but India alone can't take them in. With a little help maybe (possibly US, highly unlikely though) but I increasingly feel India is alone in this venture for now.

Pakistan and India were nearly on the same pedestal decades ago before Modi, but then India took a constructive route while PAK stayed on the same destructive route. They seriously need to review their path and take responsibility for wrongdoings to their own citizens and others.

Nope! Your economy was doing well on borrowed money for wars with Russia and Afghanistan. If USA had not funded you, your country would have gone under in 1970s or 80s. 9-11 was done by Pakistan to bring back America to Afghanistan.

The reality is that Pakistan can never sustain as a nation because the agenda behind it's formation was very different. India was formed in quest for freedom and democracy. While Pakistan was formed on the bases of religion. And that is what caused it's downfall from the instance it got separated from India.
