The one anchorman was too aggressive. Maybe he thought he is super clever and bought IBM rather than Bershire Hathaway stocks - and now he needs a personal investment advise. General political motivated questions whould be far more helpful.

An excellent point. Warren and Charlie have done it many times. If he and Charlie are sure they are right they keep buying . A great job.

@@mikajp-pvp6407 price doesn't say anything about your decision , You might be right and it could go really down , The thing is that people decide the price and people are stupid , So you'll know if you're right or wrong after a long time [Might be 10 years or 20 years who knows ]

It is funny that Joe puts quite a bit of pressure to Warren when he said that Buffet seems tl be holding Ibm. At that moment probably Buffet knew that his plan was to sell the whole stake.

IBM's AI Watson is going to send the companies revenues through the roof, perhaps IBM will become one of the top 3 most profitable companies on earth within a few years. The potential in AI cannot be overstated and IBM is an industry leader in the most advantageous industry there is - AI.

Worked for IBM last year. Hated the company purely for its culture. But Mr.Buffett has got this one right I believe. Huge strategic turnaround. Great dividend to protect losses. New business is growing in a massive way. The only reason its dropped this much is due to revenue decreasing. What do you expect when you change your entire strategy? I'm buying. In at 125.. Will hold for the next 5 years.

How much did you finally make after 6 years from your ibm investment?
@davidglad
@davidglad Жыл бұрын
@@candyfloss184 Looking at google's chart for IBM, I don't think IBM fell to 125 (below, actually) until 2018. At which stage he probably lost interest in doing so. PS This video sure aged like milk how within a year or two Berkshire would say BYE FELICIA to IBM stock. I respect Buffett for reading IBM's annual reports for 50+ years before buying the stock and the investment legend Phil Fisher suggested giving a company 3+ years from the time of investment to do something. (I think Berkshire bought in 2011.) In the case of IBM, it just appeared like Buffett was being stubborn in not admitting it was a suboptimal decision. Considering, had Berkshire bought Apple instead, that would have been maybe two-thirds (maybe more) of their eventual purchase quantity. Back in 2017 a lot of people were remarking how Berkshire should have bought Google shares instead of IBM in 2011. As Buffett in the video said of course, he's not a registered investment advisor and isn't telling retail investors what is the most suitable investments for them..

He should have bought Tesco on the way down, its a 10 year stock not a 10 minute stock, they had the accounting scandal which would have raised the integrity issue but now Dave Lewis from Unilever is Master & Commander, their new value brand of smaller shops will mean they cover all bases and can compete with Aldi/Lidle without damaging Tesco brand, Booker distribution was a genius move . . Tesco messed up in China because they could not get fresh products without bribes and the white goods where not competative but Tesco will continue to grow elsewhere . . .

Buffett violated his first rule of investing, don't invest outside your sphere of understanding. I suspect IBM will turn out to be dud for Berkshire. My calculation of IBM's intrinsic value is around $150, so it's not anywhere close to a value, and hasn't been when he's been buying.

I know in this game we all have our secrets, but could you break down your valuation process?
@2011blueman
@2011blueman 8 жыл бұрын
Sanjay Jenkins I'm not sure I could fit everything in a youtube comment, but it's essentially a discounted cash flow analysis with various adjustments and looking for various red flags (stolen/borrowed from Benjamin Graham's books). The way I pick stocks is 1) an initial screen for the following: P/E < 15, price/book < 1.5, current ratio > 1.5, ROE >10%, 5 year net income growth > 0, and 10 year EPS growth > 0. Then, 2) I have a program that I wrote that does a DCF calculation with various inputs weighted by their probabilities and gives me a range for its intrinsic value. Then 3) if the stock is trading at 1/2 the intrinsic value then I go do my due diligence on the company (i.e. look for a Buffett "moat", read the annual reports for the last 5 years and any quarterly reports for the current year, listen to the last earnings conference call, and investigate the management). If you're looking for a starting point I'd suggest reading Graham's Intelligent investor (at least 3 times), and his book security analysis. Then I'd go read every Buffet partnership letter and shareholder letter. After that you'll know more about investing than any MBA or investment advisor you meet. I'd also read Taleb's The Black Swan.
