brings me to tears every time. lost one of my closest friends 18 years ago, died in my arms then lost the other to a head on car wreck just 2 years ago come April. I am reminded by this song of the brothers from other mothers that were closer to me than any blood relation I have. Rick and "Too Tall" Dave were more family than my family. If I could bring them back in exchange for my own life I would without hesitation or regret. I struggle to keep my faith that I will see them again someday. Gone but never forgotten, RIP my brothers. hope to see you soon.

Warren lives just down the road from me. I ran into him one time at Lowe's. He was buying a door knob set and didn't know which one to to buy. I said hi and thanked him for his music and told him which one I preferred. He took the one I suggested and that was about it. No big deal but pretty cool anyway.

@@notmyrealname9504 This isn't a debate and here's why. There is no debate where subjectivity is the primary denominator at the foot of said conversation. I make my claim based on an opinion that is subjective based on personal preference. You make your assertion based on your opinions and preferences. Thus, we both get to be right based upon the fundamentals of that which we prize most. There is no discussion for me because I can't argue what appeases your value system. All I can do is hold fast to what I attribute my assertion to. I say yes. You say no. Subjectivity affords both scenarios a thumbs up. Congrats on the W. Meanwhile, I'll be polishing mine up over yonder. ;-)

There are probably a hundred living now who could qualify, some obviously more famous than others. Everybody will coalesce around their personal favorites and call them the best. I remember 18 years ago when I had just had the great fortune to have met my wife and we went to Hotel Budir in Iceland. The troubadour of that evening started this tune and there was a an extra guitar onstage so I casually picked it up, giving him a nod, and we delivered a magical version of this beautiful song. Everyone was just shell shocked, nobody more than myself. I knew the tune and all but never felt that I could deliver it myself live as it is so damned good in the original version. This version in the video is very nice as well, but remember that when you play for love, anything can happen… even magic.

Yes Roger Waters is a genius. A lot of people don't know he wrote virtually all lyrics and almost the entire album bc the other guys were so fucked up at the time. That's actually what Wish You Were Here is about. His longing for them to be present bc the former band frontman, Syd Barrett, had already ruined himself on acid and was back living at home with his parents. Shine on You Crazy Diamond is about Syd. Pretty ironic bc I think did most of us had some magical experiences with Pink Floyd and most every drug ever thought up. At least that was HIS side of the story. I know Rick Wright was actually paid as a session musician when recording "The Wall" bc he was so bad off the only way they could get him to show up was if they paid him by the hour. Again that's the behind the scenes gossip. So who really knows, but if you go back and listen to a lot of the lyrics you can begin to see where that makes sense.

@@deepspacenine I agree with the genius of Waters, though it took me almost 2 decades to appreciate it. Gilmour has always been my favorite guitarist, since I got Momentary Lapse of Reason for my 14th or so birthday. But even recently did I find out his wife had written a lot of his lyrics, leaving Waters the true head of Floyd. So much drama within such a band of brilliant minds, but I guess that is to be expected. I'm so glad they are still pushing young minds to experience the gold they recorded, and Waters is still releasing some studio tracks.

@@fuzzybunny4muny I recently saw footage from the Roger Waters, Us And Them-Tour on television. The recorded concert is available as BluRay etc. and there's parts from it here on YT. @deepspacenine
@deepspacenine 3 жыл бұрын
@@fuzzybunny4muny yeah I'm actually in the same boat. It took me 25 years to realize just how much of a genius he is. I think there are things you can only learn to truly appreciate once you've reached middle age bc you just don't have the life experience and wisdom to analyze the philosophical and political nature of his lyrics. It's hard even describing what I mean without sounding like an unqualified intern at rolling stone or that old hippie that sits entranced in the drum circle at every jam band festival, probably ever.
