Even the kindest people can destroy the system. Ok, they are nice, you can't blame them for looking for good life, but, expats, particularly American, are destroying the life they come to enjoy. If more of them come there, it wold turn expensive even for them, imagine disaster for locals. Look what they've done to Ecuador so far. They turned Vilcabamba, which was a heaven on earth, into expensive fakehippieveganwesternerbullshit place, and spread it to Cuenca like a cancer on healthy body. Guys, if you are really nice, if you really like that sort of life, come as a tourist and go back, please!. Or at least, stay unnoticed in media, keep it for yourself. Warren and Julie, no matter how nice you are, you are the cancer, the biggest enemy of the life you are advertising.

And calculating now free education, almost free kindergarden, amost free healthcare, i have spent 2019 3 days in hospital for rota virus and didnt pay a dinar. Also we have dentist covered in insurance but we mostly avoid those that work in state ambulances if have money but people who dont they have that option. Cannot say i feel so safe shit happened often in this region but when i see how crazy world has gone i feel that serbia compared jumps up as a paradise.
@carick2353 жыл бұрын
@@ventilatorbgd In a way it is that way, basically if you had a steady solid income nobody in the right mind would move to the western countries. But (big BUT) since big percent of well educated or hard working people can't find job with above average salary (since with average you can't live life without everyday stress or provide for family) it is nightmare for most of people. For example this couple live normal life with 1390 a month, even if you remove those 450 for rent you still need 900 euros per month to cover basic living, and people here earn on average 300-500 euros, so if you add one additional member to the family (kids) it gets tricky to cover all the cost, so you get why we have the worst birth rate in Europe and have 60,000 less people in Serbia every year (+thousands that leave country).

This is a great video! thank you for sharing. I've done some research into the housing in Serbia and one of the things that stood out to me is the affordable cost of apartments and houses in Serbia. For example, in certain cities, it is possible to buy brand new one or two bedroom apartments for about $50K Euros. In smaller cities and villages, it is possible to buy houses for the same amount or much less, that are in good condition. Serbia banks generally require a 20% downpayment on homes, but make exceptions and reduce the downpayment amount necessary for first time home buyers and many banks also offer mortgages to foreigners. With the low cost of homes and apartments, it is theroretically cheaper to own a home then rent in Serbia. For example, using the example of a $50,000 Euro home or an apartment and a 20% downpayment ($10,000), a 20 year morgage at 4.99% interest rate would work out to only $264.00 Euros a month (or $288.00 US). As a result of the affordable home costs in Serbia, it has some of the highest home ownership rates in the world at over 90% and is a great country for foreigners and expats to own property in.

480 $ is very expensive for Novi Sad...I guess because of the agent provision .If they went directly to a landlord it would be 350 max
@WarrenJulieTravel3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your input. 😀
@carick2353 жыл бұрын
Of course directly is cheaper but it's safer this way through agent for foreigners that don't speak Serbian, since even i as a student few years ago coming to Belgrade had hard time finding the right place and talking with landlords, only if you have some Serbian friends to assist you it's best to go direct but 480$ is not that bad since it's duplex and especially if they like the place and find that's a good deal for them. In Belgrade 450-500$ would be minimal price for such place, just for comparision.

This video was so informative. Thank you. I am in retirement age and am looking to move to Serbia. There are three cities I am considering .... Belgrade , Novi Sad and Subotica. I understand all three cities have also excellent theaters. The size of the city of Novi Sad is little more attractive to me then the size of Belgrade. Less busy. Do you think I am correct in my assumption ?
@marko30543 жыл бұрын
Novi Sad is 100% less busy then Belgrade, the traffic is significantly lower, its more peacefull etc. The air quality in Belgrade is also on an all time low at the moment, Novi Sad is better in that department as well and you have a small mountain just outside the city for various activities
@katarinaristich52903 жыл бұрын
@@marko3054 You sound like someone who lived in Novi Sad for a long time. I would have to live there for a month or two to get the "feeling" for the city. My interests are theaters, museums, libraries, closeness to the university for various lectures and so on... closeness to the Sremski Karlovci and Fruska Gora is a plus. Thank you.
@crazygunar3 жыл бұрын
@@katarinaristich5290 definitely a good choice to spend some time exploring first. Since winter is almost over and good weather knocking on the door, you might have better insights into the things you are looking for. Add Kragujevac and Nis to your list since they are worth exploring (as a metropolitan area in terms of Serbia). The landscape varies greatly for different parts of Serbia and can be a huge deciding factor. Also, I urge Warren and Julie to do the same. South, west, and eastern Serbia are original on their own, and English-speaking people are common everywhere since the English language is obligatory in elementary public schools since '80ties.
@mkedan67413 жыл бұрын
Hello again, thank you for these informative videos. Such a nice couple Paul and Mary. I was born on Serbia(Kragujevac area) but have lived in the States(WI) since 1972. My Serbian wife and I would like to spend half our retirement split between the Balkans(summers) and Sarasota FL(winters). I cought your video from Nov. 2019 from Kotor Montenegro, very interesting! Have you done any more videos from there about the cost of living, citizenship, visas, ect.? I would recommend Balkan expats to explore the chance of retiring there. Obviously the languages are a big berrier for Americans, but if you know any of the Slavic languages and with the cost of living in the US, it's a good option. One other thing I woul like to bring up to anyone attempting this, the cost of air travel between the Balkans and the USA. Chicago/Belgrade can run as much as $1,500 round trip during the summer. If you have to come home several times a year, this could be cost prohibitive.
@WarrenJulieTravel3 жыл бұрын
We actually owned a home in Kotor and hope to get there eventually and do videos in Montenegro. That video was done when we were just visiting and had no idea about making a KZbin channel so the video is not very well done. We plan on exploring many of the Balkan countries and the options for residency.
