MAN this piece sorely needed a redraw. The original piece is the most viewed video on my channel and it's 4 years old.

I still hate Thistleclaw. Hate him even more now, actually. Thistleclaw apologists don't interact. This man was not okay, even before Spottedleaf's Heart was released. He was out for blood victories. He tried to teach his son to kill when he was a kit. He helped mold Tigerclaw into a monster. People think he'd make a good father when he all but condoned the near killing of a child?? Besides, Whitestorm turned out to be pretty great after Bluestar raised him. I don't know why people woulda wanted otherwise.
I started this piece back in February and then life dropkicked me into the void. But now that I'm in quarantine with so much more free time, I decided to fish it out and finish it. Which is why you guys see me go back and fix up the shading on Snowfur, lol.

I ain't no thistle apologist, but boy do i love that fluffy man. I could go on a whole tangent explaining his behavior's and motivations (without making him seem like a good guy of course, because he's definitely a villain). Though the tangent would probably sound like this; Insecurity > arrogant mentor > early warriorship > jealous Bluefur > love for Snowfur > love for whitekit > Snowfur ded > thistleclaw meets Mapleshade and silverhawk in dark forest > thistleclaw trains whitekit the manipulation he learned from the dark forest > bluefur takes custody of whitekit and he angry and sad > thistle trains more in dark forest and becomes desensitized to others pain due to his own emotional issues and hells direction > trains tigerpaw and possibly sees himself in him because his own father was halfclan > manipulates tigerpaws insecurities with leopardfoot being like "eh whatever" > spottedpaw gets crush on him > thistleclaw manipulates her to dark forest for them extra Mapleshade points > spottedpaw leaves and he doesn't persure cause he intended it for the dark forest all along > bluefur become deputy > angry and jealous and seeking attention he fights patrol and ded Sounds more like circumstance in this explanation, but most of it was his fault. And thats only the events that happened, his mental state was far "eviler", he lost his empathy when Snowfur died and whitekit was taken away, he felt no more remorse after that. Even if he couldn't help that his brain became so traumatized he lost emotion, he still did those actions and it was his fault, since not every sociopath is a murderer and yet he was

Also with the spottedkit event, its a 50/50 chance he was trying to groom. I'm not fully sure because both his own kit and tigerpaw were with him, all the thunderclan queens, and like 5 other kits, it would be absolutely stupid to attempt to groom in that position, he was probably just trying to seem trustworthy to the clan by being nice to all the kits.

Yeah, he definitely has motives! I don't think most - if not all - villains were just born evil. Potential for it, yes, but ultimately it's their life experiences that shapes whether that potential is awakened or not. The thing that grates my gears is people saying he was not in the wrong at all, that he's just a Soft Boi UwU who was misunderstood because Bluestar's Prophecy is written from a biased perspective. The bias part definitely does have a hand, but it doesn't take away the fact that his actions are still really nasty. He makes an interesting villain for sure, who's shown to have softer sides (unlike many many other villains in this series), but he's still a villain. People should stop trying to twist that. I'm pretty sure he was trying to groom Spottedkit/paw, though why he thought it was a good idea is lost to me. But he sure was almost successful. That's what makes it so scary. I like your take on Thistleclaw's character!

Some people can't seem to grasp that not all villains have to be born evil :/ Honestly with how many arcs there are in this franchise, if we only had villains that were born evil or weren't really villains at all I think it would become more repetitive than it already is, lol. Ah, yeah I generally don't take requests for OCs! But I do take canon scene suggestions if I like the idea ;) It just. might take a while, haha. God I've read the first 3 or so books of the Broken Code, and then the site I pirated the books from got taken down. I still need to catch up, but doing art for it is definitely a possibility! Thank you! Heh yeah, one of my biggest issues back when I drew the first one was that my style was too similar to another artist's, so I put in a bunch of effort finding my own thing. I'm glad it's more distinct now!

That's an interesting question! From what little material we have in canon, I remember from Crookedstar's Promise that Thistleclaw was talking about how it was Bluefur who should have died on the Thunderpath, not Snowfur, but also he kind of. talked crap about his wife and son, saying that they didn't have any hunger for power or blood/that they were soft. It's not a completely solid "Lol I actually don't care for my dead wife" but it's also not exactly very loving, is it? I really wish we'd seen them interact on some level during the big battle against the Dark Forest in the Last Hope, but alas.
