@TehIslamicDefender not anymore, there are a few more than that now who are certified under Guro Dan Inosanto. And of course those instructors certify their students in the art, so the art is growing considerably now. Guro Harlehy

the term Madjapahit was used first. As I mentioned it was started and promoted by the three Instructors I mentioned. It uses a blend of arts the include Muay Thai, etc. After the passing of Pendakar Jaffri and the moving back to the P.I. by Tuhon Gaje, Guro Dan was left in charge of Madjapahit Martial Arts. Later, as Guro Dan explored more aspects of Silat he termed his personal system Maphilindo Silat came much later and was only used by Guro Inosanto, then of course, his students.

Google it, it is a Malay-Indonesian-Filipino Martial Art tradition with hundreds of systems and sub systems. Most are amazingly brutal and complex.

@MrOphachew it's not surprising you haven't heard of Maphilindo Silat. It's taught only by Guro Dan Inosanto and his students, so it's still a relatively small system as far as numbers go. But we are growing, lol. Suzanne's videos are excellent, you should definitely get them. We also have a Maphilindo Silat Vol. 1 out that you may enjoy as well.

@Far7anR Hello, that's a great question and one that comes up regularly because as you said, people learn both from Guro Inosanto. Madjapahit Martial Arts was started by Tuhon Leo Gaje, Pendakar Eddie Jaffri and Guro Dan Inosanto. It blends arts from all over south east Asia including Thailand, Burma, Indo-China, etc. Maphilindo is Guro Dan's personal system from Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia. Different arts, backgrounds, flavors, etc. Hope that helps. Guro Harley

I would say no this is not allowed in wrestling, since this is a neck break. I personally am not a wrestler, so do not take my word for it. Having done this technique I can tell you it is easy to lose your balance in this position and really hurt your partner/opponent; there is a tremendous amount of pressure on their neck, so any movement from them or you would be bad.

What is the difference between Maphilindo Silat and Madjapahit Silat? Aren't they both from Dan Inosanto?
@Far7anR13 жыл бұрын
@WarriorswayTX Thanks for that great answer. Is there any way I can get a little more information on what makes them distinct? The biggest thing I think I noticed was that Madjapahit is more ground-oriented while Maphilindo favors to be standing up more. I was thinking of buying a DVD but I wasn't sure which system to check into first, and I don't want to try to do both at the same time. It'd be great if I could know what systems went into Madjapahit as opposed to which went into Maphilindo.

What is the difference between filipino kali and silat other than geographic factor. Because I am learning kali and silat looks somewhat like kali.

@WarriorswayTX I was afraid of that. There doesn't seem to be anything but Tang Soo Do going on in Flint right now. Lansing would be an hour and a half drive one way for me and I don't have the means to travel back and forth on a regular basis. Thanks anyway

The only video's I've seen on Madajapahit Silat are form Suzanne Luna Spezzano? I haven't seen video's nor even heard of Maphilindo Sialt until I read these comments. I was thinking of getting her DVD's

@sameer they are actually the same, if you know the history of the region you will know they are the same. the different is that FMA are more codified and stright forward while Silat is more encripted. the different is resulted because cultural influence, The Philipines gurus mainly got US (read: western influence), that the reason why FMA are more codified and stright forward. the western influence emphises more on utility (stright forward fight approach) and structured/systemised teaching (codified materials).

@Far7anR Hello. I've posted on the internet years ago the various arts that make up both Maphilindo Silat and Madjapahit. It's too lengthy to post here. I wouldn't necessarily say one favors the ground over the other. In fact most people do learn both arts at the same time since that's how Guro teaches them. So I don't think you will have a hard time, just pick a DVD on either art from a legitimate Inosanto Instructor and I think you will be safe. Guro Harley
