I discovered it when I was about that same age, on an old 78 rpm record. I'd play it over and over and now in my late 70s I still love it. I will pull off the highway to listen to it on the radio. If I suddenly think of it during the day I'll stop what I'm doing to play it in my mind. It accompanies me while backpacking, working with the microscope. Perhaps obsessive, is that what love is?

I agree with all the favorable comments of this particular rendition of this beloved musical piece. There was something in the resonance, the vibrancy and urgency that stirred the strings within my soul, haunting yet hopeful.

Well done even without the orchestra! The visuals are most moving and reflect the tragedy that was Warsaw. This pianist is first rate! The recording is excellent.

Great Job! Your Phrasing is wonderful. Pianists have a tendency to rush the piece because of all the arpeggios you're playing along with all of the Glissandos that are in there too. I love your interpretation of the piece and I'm very impressed with your superb well executed performance. 🙂

Marvellous. This is the Henry Geehl adaptation for solo piano. Following along, I thought your performance was superb. I came here to hear your performance to help me decide on which version to learn myself. This version is well above my capability right now, and would take me at least a year to memorize, but it might be worth it. I also have the "Easy Piano Edition" from Hal Leonard, and I could certainly play that. Maybe it would only take me half a year to learn. Hearing this brought back memories of my mother playing it on our piano -- she started out as a music teacher before moving on to child psychology. (Yes, my mother was a child psychologist. It wasn't too big a problem though. Mostly it meant she got to practice giving psychological tests to me before giving them to school kids.) Addinsell was told to write something that "sounded like Rachmaninoff" for the movie, wasn't he? Aside from the heart rending melodies, what he composed was not too close to Rachmaninoff, and certainly not so hard to play, thankfully. Do you think you could play the full version of the theme from Exodus (the movie)? That's another piano piece that my mother played, that I'd like to learn myself.
