Mao wasn't stupid. You don't get a position of power like his, and keep it, unless you have the intellect to pull it off. Mao was a sociopath who wanted power, and like most of his type didn't care how many people had to lose their lives in the process. My thoughts, anyway.

life expectancy went from low 30s to almost 70 under mao. Launched the most successful and rapid literacy campaigns ever. Spread healthcare from urban areas to the country side and made healthcare a free human right, the doctor to citizen ration increased in china faster than any other country in history. For women he criminalized oppressive traditions like footbinding, allowed them to initiate divorces, allowed them to own their own property, and allowed them to hold government positions, be equal in communes, vote for local legislation, and participate in the military. repurposed all warlord lands to the peasants that worked them. Helped defeat imperial japan and unified china after centuries of colonialism, exploitation, and extortion. Rapidly industrialized the country and modernized it. The economy increased by high single digits to low double digits year over year for the greater part of 4 decades. Infant mortality rate dropped to an equal percentage as some developed european countries. There is a reason people in China admire Mao for the things he accomplished, and theres a reason that western historians consider him one of the most impactful leaders in the 20th century. Calling him the most evil man in the world takes an absurd amount of ignorance and lack of critical thinking. There are people who did much worse things and way less good things who are still praised to this day, because they are a product of the west and not under intense scrutiny like Mao is. It is okay to acknowledge his faults and policy failures that lead to millions of deaths without disregarding the hundreds of millions of lives saved.

Loved? The CCP's propagation of Mao's cult of personality is hardly a mark of the people's affection. Do you also believe that the Russian people love and revere Stalin? Mao did not bring China to where it is today; the CCP's subsequent leaders turned many of Mao's policies on their heads and brought on the economic opening of the country. The direction they took China's economy would have made Mao furious. Mao , through his own pride and hubris, caused millions to suffer, whether it be through purges, famines, and other reforms, including the early Land Reform, not to mention the atmosphere of terror of persecution that citizens high and low lived under daily.

@@faresrizk7725 It's not real history. The historical population figures for China do not justify a claim that "Mao was behind 45 million deaths." China suffered many, many famines prior to 1949 - since then it suffered only one, which resulted in anywhere from a half a million to, at the most, about 5 million deaths. Western media focuses on this famine, falsifies both causes and outcomes, and never, ever, talks about the many famines which occurred in China prior to the creation of the PRC.

China would have been a U.S. ally from the start. This would have had huge repercussions in for the U.S.-- the Soviet Union would have been much less powerful from the start without a giant ally in Asia. The U.S. would never have gone into Vietnam. The U.S. and allies would have won the Korean War, and the Koreas would now be united under a nationalist (rather than Communist) leader. Taiwan would unequivocally be a part of China, with no independence movement. The Great Leap Forward, Cultural Revolution, and One Child Policies would never have happened, meaning the population of China would be much larger (and wealthier) than it is now. Democracy probably would have come to China around the 1980's, like it did to South Korea, Taiwan, and other Asian countries. This could lead to great freedoms in China, but also a lot of unrest, with provinces like Tibet and Xinjiang voting to break away. A lot more of traditional culture would have lasted until this day, because it would not have been destroyed under Mao.
