Thousands of former Nazis went on to work in other state jobs for Germany after WW2. Also only a tiny fraction of Nazis were prosecuted after the war.

One detail: Göring nearly disrupted the trial asking: what's the problem? We Germans acted the same as you Americans dealt with Native Indians or you British acted in India. The situation threatened impass until it was decided upon a brilliant solution: Herr Göring, here we are discussing only your crimes. Everything else is irrelevant and beyound the current deliberations. So shut up and answer.

@colder5465

@@ZealShuffles I agree. The UN issued a resolution declaring war the heaviest crime against humanity. All countries supported that. The result is such: there aren't fewer wars but now nobody calls a war as "a war". Never ever you see a formal declaration of a war. The governments hypocritically call them "combined actions", "special operations" or "special military operations" but don't bother even to break diplomatic relations if they have any. The only historical example of such behavior was before WW2 in Khalkhin-Gol conflict when Soviet 57th special corps fought Japan's infantry division in Mongolia without any formal declaration of the war. The Japanese later tried presenting this as a local initiative of the Kwantung Army.

This documentary isn’t accurate. There has never been a confirmed conclusion as to how Goring got hold of the cyanide pill and we’ll never know for sure as the only person who can tell us is Goring himself. He did have family visits off his daughter and such who could have smuggled it into him. One guard came out years later to say he was stopped by a German woman and asked to give something to Goring but I think he was disputed as making this up. Others say that when the guards gave him his personal items just before he was meant to be hung, a cigar holder was one of the items which had the cyanide capsule inside. This is the first time I’ve ever heard of the pot of hair cream. He could have hidden multiple capsules and arranged various people to smuggle or arrange one to be bought in for him just to make sure at least one of the plans were successful so he would end up with at least one capsule, hence various people claim so many different ways that he got the capsule.

Here's my question why does the world care about denazifying Germany when America specifically look the other way towards untold horrors in Japan especially with the unit 731. Which did countless horrors that a movie could never explain what they really did. The movie would be like triple r rated because they would have to go out of their way to be realistic and people would believe it unrealistic unless they knew the truth which America kept secret for over 70 years.

Exactly. As a German during those times, you could get killed for simply playing certain music or curling your hair. It’s took me years to learn the ins and outs of Nazis and Germans. Fun fact about Goring, he was addicted to morphine for years and years, using hundreds of mg of the stuff everyday, was even put in a psychiatric ward in an Asylum twice, before the war but he never quit his adiction. When he was arrested, they had to hospitalise him to wean him off drugs before the trial. Before he was captured, he arranged the Luftwafe to bomb his home so the Red Army couldn’t ransack it and obviously begged for a killing by shooting rather than hanging as he saw hanging a punishment given to peasants. To think he tried to emulate so much pride, you wouldn’t think he was essentially a desperate drug addict. No offence to anyone who has addiction issues but it’s just such a contradiction to the image he tried to portray.

I would say that tearing down symbols was not enough and as the fiction of the Odessa File novel tries to stress the old guard remained at the back of German society. If you see what the Americans did with Gehlen it seems that in many cases the combatants of the Third Reich turned too easily into a vanguard against Comminism in the Cold War. The hilarious romp called Doctor Strangelove makes high comedy out of this miasma of attitudes.

Even today, if I were ever to meet a German . I would feel uneasy engaging in a conversation. Therefore, it's a country that I would not visit out of respect for the millions deceased during my lifetime!

What is your reasoning for this? Are you Jewish or just offended for the jews and believe you know how they feel? Do you feel the same way about China right now,who have killed millions of muslims because they need to be moved because of China's plan to build their highway to connect to the others side of the world? Do you feel the same way when the Russians ethnically cleansed the Germans starting in the mid 30's causing millions of German deaths.Do you think you would feel uneasy about talking to Russians today out of respect for the Germans? How about Turkey committing genocide against the Armenians in which they kkiliing millions,in death camps and desert matches in which people just walked until they died or were pushed over cliffs.This where the Geermans got there bluepprint for their camps.Would you fell the same about all these people and countries.

A great book is America's Germany, an Account of the Occupation, by Julian Bach. He wrote it on the ship back to the United States in December of 45. It covers the time from the surrender till he leaves. I love the part about the black market.

It’s £30 on Amazon 😅. Considering a brand new best selling book is no more than about £12, this is very expensive for a book 😫. Any other book recommendations on this subject?
@PaulBCISSP
@PaulBCISSP 18 күн бұрын
@@HayleyGardening22 None I can think of. Just do a saved eBay search and one cheaper will pop up. I found the section about the black market in berlin between the Allies and Russians in this book very interesting. Both sides printed occupation money and the allies sold the Russians watches for around $300 in occupation money and they American soldiers were able to turn into dollars and send home thousands of dollars. It was quite a thing for a few months before they clamped down. One Air Force pilot was planning to fly to Switzerland and would have made almost half a million for this one flight bringing back watches to sell to the Russians. The Russians didn't care they were overpaying for the watches as it was all printed money anyway and there was nothing else to buy they wanted.

Wehrmacht soldiers were kept in POW camps for years afterward, to work in restitution and be deprogrammed from fascism, treated fairly decently and kept off the street. At the very least, this provided a basis for a new post-war leadership to arise, prevented a revanchist insurgency, as was the case with the freikorps groups after WWI, festering their grievance mongering into a totalitarian reaction to Social Democracy.. At any rate, the process worked well.
