I like to keep it at 400m. It gives a fair amount of choices on when to engage, while keeping my guns quite effective until 400m, and even then the angle they're fired at at 400m convergence means they'll maintain an acceptable grouping a fair distance past that.

+Eonymia Since I'm a shoddy shot without the lead assist, I try to keep my firing range between 800m (about when lead assist kicks in) and 200m (the closest I feel I can safely get to the tail of an aircraft). Given this, I pick the average of 500m. This also makes estimating spread easy at 1km (the range I usually open fire at even without lead assist), as the spread will look like the way the guns on my aircraft are arranged, but inverted. Easy numbers to remember.

Thelothuo There are also other variables that come into play such as the size of the target aircraft and the placement of your armorment on your plane being on the wings or nose if the plan or both. Also machine gun vs cannon as well as the size of the round because of the drop rate. So the sweet spot can vary from plane to plane even if you always have the same play style.

For turn fighters/energy fighters i like it on 400 too, on boom and zoom planes i keep it at 600

I mainly use energy fighters so for those who use them I recommend 800m because you want to take your enemies out from above and as far from you as possible so you have time to get the kill and pull back up so you won’t hit the ground

I see a lot of people talking about “make sure to check if the guns are nose-mounted or wing-mounted” I just started and I have the P-400 which has a gun mounted on the nose and a gun on the wings

Turn fighters: 200m-400m Energy fighters:200m-600m Boom and zoomers:600m-800m This is how I use gun convergence normally

Personally I stick to 3/400M it seems to be the distance that most people shoot at me from, at least.

I think that 600m is the sweetspot because, at least for me, that's about the distance to my enemy in most cases. In 600m, you can still be effective at around 1km, which is basically the upper limit for even opening fire, so it offers a good balance of efficiency at all engagement ranges and is very deadly at the most common distance. This also somewhat applies to 500m convergence but I prefer 600m.

I’m 500 m. Also unless it’s a nose gun like on the g91 I set it all the way out to 800 so when im head to head I can fire a burst then canopy role out of the way

Your guns are not inaccurate at close range if your convergence is like 800 m or no convergence at all. It only means that the bullets won't hit on exactly the point you point at - you will probably hit the enemy a little right and left off the point you point. I play with 500 or 600 m convergence and am still able to get kills in dogfights when the enemy sometimes is closer than 200m. (Only for WING MOUNTED guns). Btw you forgot vertical targeting

Yep, for wing mounted guns their out of range point is 2xConvergence. Because if your bullets move to the centerline in Convergance Length, then they will move back out (flipped) in a second Convergence Length. For anything in between that distance and your plane, your bullets will be no further spread apart then the width between them on the wings.

Javier Portillo depending on the plane tho, in something like the P-47N, having no convergence will make you miss a lot even in head ons due to the guns begin really far outside the wings, so you need convergence for planes like those

I use 800 meters and can still kill at 200 meters very fast (120%ish speed of 400 meter) by shooting slightly to one side. I'll take the ability to kill at 800 for lower times in a mass dogfight, which should be avoided anyway.

don't think i can set to a certain "Conversion" i shoots them down from close far, twirling whatever but if they go down they - they go down if not keep trying, keep it simple, i guess this video is for if ur struggling to get kills and it took me a few months to get decent kills, for playing War Thunder for as little as 6 months and getting at most 7- kills in one match is not to shabby. You'll get the hang of it, also try not to use Armor Piercing cuz all it will do is go thought the Plane, use Incendiary Ammo, you know those shell that Light yo ass up and burn ya those suck'ahs. i mean i still like the video i always Listen to Good Advice, Tips Ect.

You'll do damage sure but over the entire aircraft, you ideally want to focus your fire on one point so there is a critical failure causing him to crash or make him easier to target.

Anyone have any suggestions for players who have a hard time seeing their cross hairs with any color/shape setting on the Xbox One? It's the bane of my existence in air combat... When you have it on 200 meters your guns hit the hardest at 200 meters and still can kill somebody at 400 but you will hit their wings That's the easy explanation

Use 600 if you want to have long range snipe chance ( 1km+) Use 400 for a really good all rounder from 200m to 800m, but above that distance your bullets will start to spread out so snipes at 1k+ will be more difficult Use 400m,or les in Ground RB, you will be surprised of how accurate your guns will be against ground

Elinzar i agree with your advice for the air rb but in ground rb you're better off with 800 because your enemy doesn't move that much and you'll be able to open up a whole lot earlier. Except you use .30 cals of course :D
