February 24th will go down in history books as the day when Russia unleashed its invasion of Ukraine - this time without little green men and without hiding its intentions. In his address to the nation, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy declared martial law and appealed to the Ukrainian people to remain calm and stay at home. However, more than a hundred thousand people left their homes that day, fleeing west. In total, over 6 million refugees have left Ukraine, while an estimated 8 million others have been displaced within the country itself. This crisis has led to approximately one-quarter of Ukraine’s total population leaving their homes. Now, more than two years later the situation has somewhat settled. But with a renewed Russian offensive in Kharkiv and Donetsk, questions are beginning to arise as to whether a new migration crisis is imminent should Russia break the front. Join Jan Darasz and his guest Marcin Zaborowski, Policy Director at GLOBSEC for this episode of How We Got Here to learn more about the migration movements provoked by war, and how tragic for Ukraine's demography the war can turn out to be and finally what kind of stress the influx of refugees is putting on social systems of countries helping Ukraine.
