Your dad inspired a generation of young white Australians to learn about the First Nations people and the richness of their cultures. I can still recall being 16 years old on the floor of the Hordern Pavilion with thousands of us punching the air and singing along with him "Stand up, stand up and be counted." I don't know when or why so many those others with me that day decided to sit down but the shame of what my generation has become - the selfish, materialistic 3 rental property owning LNP voter base - is with me every day.

It's sacrilege this song (and band) were not given the airtime on local radio that they deserved. when they were making their rounds. So many kids growing up in Australia not knowing them or hearing their awesome music that has meaning and the 'spirit of Australia'. I first heard them in Atherton in 1992 and I was hooked. Thankyou Warumpi Band.

Have listened to these guys everywhere I’ve traveled. The fact I’m still seeking out the song, and you’re reading this comment, proves really how strong it is. #warumpis

This is Australia's most awesome folksong. Pity that the Warumpi Band was never given the spot light during their time. Shame on us Aussie's. The band consisted of George Burarrwanga on vocals and didgeridoo, Gordon Butcher Tjapanangka on drums, his brother Sammy Butcher Tjapanangka on guitar and bass guitar, and Neil Murray on rhythm guitar and backing vocals.
