Ian, you brought up an angle that you may be able to go into one day as an aside - a listing, map or diagram of popular cartridges (calibers? but opening it up to black powder would be more complex than I imagine most would want) separated by pistol, rifle, and shotgun per country or area and era / decade(s). This would be an overview topic that you may have a nice grasp on, but newer collectors might like to see just to have a handle on the spread, and perhaps speed of that spread, of popularity. This could also include lesser-known calibers if they were popular in, say, France for a given time. As always, thank you for the educational work you do.

I wonder what interesting stories this pistol has in its past. It was clearly used a good deal. One grip broke at some point and someone made a new grip for it. Guild rod was lost at some point and someone hobbled together one from a nail. The nail is actually of rather recent design. It is a modern framing nail that has only been around about half the time that pistol has, so a relatively recent replacement. I will watch this one. Maybe I can continue the tradition of this pistol and make a new magazine for it from some scrap around the shop, ha.

Why the term "automatic" on a pistol? I never understood that. Isn't automatic suppose to be for guns like ARs, SMGs, carbines and so forth? as in "it fires as long as you keep the trigger pulled".

@123456gordon 9 жыл бұрын
Jimmy De'Souza So in pistols, automatic and semi automatic would technically mean the same?
@amperzand9162
@amperzand9162 9 жыл бұрын
+123456gordon Full-auto pistols are usually referred to as "Machine Pistols", though this obviously could cause some confusion in German naming schemes.
@123456gordon
@123456gordon 9 жыл бұрын
Ohh, Alright. I finally get it. Is not that complicated once you understand it, heh. But I always had that doubt. I knew how the term machine pistol worked and obviously how the term sub-machine gun worked. But never got why some people referred pistols as either auto or semi auto when in both cases they operate in the same way. Thank you guys.
@RockIslandAuctionCompany
@RockIslandAuctionCompany 9 жыл бұрын
+Jimmy De'Souza If that weren't confusing enough, "automatic" has also been used to refer to revolvers that automatically ejected their shells upon opening. Modern terminology has helped eliminate a lot of confusion.
@WAQWBrentwood

As usual, very informative and interesting video. One thing got my attention at the beginning and would't let go (and probably of no importance). I do a bit of photography and one piece of advice I hear a lot is make sure nothing is coming out of the head of the person you are taking a portrait of. There's a bit of molding in the paneling coming out of your head at the beginning of the video. Maybe move the camera to your right a bit?

🟦 It appears to be a relatively robust execution of a simple blowback design with a coupla unique translations in function! I think one of the major drawbacks of the design is the end cap that retains the main-spring around the barrel,...to rely upon whatever friction can be developed between your hand and the straight-knurling of the end-cap is patently absurd!!.... (see what I did there?) if that end-cap were to be provided with slots in it that were curved in such a way as to fit a range of readily available coins,... that would allow you to have at least a SMALL amount of mechanical-advantage over the part, rather than NONE! This would certainly provide a MUCH-needed assist in the disassembly of what looks like would be a VERY difficult part to extract should it get even the LEAST-BIT stuck!!..... I'd be willing to bet a small fortune that MOST examples of this gun have likely been found with that collar bearing the scars of having been smacked (to loosen it up) and gripped by everything from Vice-Grips & cheap-pliers to being pinched in door-frames in order to turn that retaining-collar 90° if it got stuck!
