From what I have gathered, ABBA did not sample Bul Bul Efendi. While yes, ABBA's song did come out a year after Benyamin's, the original vinyl version of Bul Bul Efendi did not include the Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! sample. The KZbin and Spotify versions do, but unfortunately, they were uploaded after 1978.

Unfortunately Benjamin’s original track did not have the famous melody. It was added later to the Indonesian version. The melody/riff is original to ABBA. The fact they were a powerhouse songwriting and musical group is not a coincidence. Both Indonesian and Swedish artists are very talented groups/artists. We should all be happy that artist from different countries are allowed to have fun and sample each other’s music. Like Madonna did with the same melody/riff from this Gimme gimme song in her 2005 hit Hung Up. Great song too! 💃 🪩 🎶

ABBA was Internationally Famous and I watched them for the first time on American Bandstand at 11 years old. I visited Mexico when I was 13 years old and even selected their song on a Juke Box and I heard them in Spanish. They were absolutely 💯 Legendary ✨ in the late 70’s, 80, and early 90’s…the divorces split them apart. I do listen to music from several Indonesian Artists. Thanks for sharing.

I personally doubt it. IMO hard to believe Benny and Björn got to hear that song back in 1978/79. Since it was from Indonesia and the world was not as small as nowadays with social media, YT etc. Even many Indonesians didn't know that song till now.
