The man is still alive at 88 years old. Why are they discussing this man's sexuality.
@ianedwards44007 ай бұрын
Alain Delon possessed a handsomeness that veered towards the pretty, without ever seeming weak. With looks so dashing and debonair as his, there may have been countless opportunities to engage carnally with either of the sexes, but, back then in the 60's, things about sex and sexual attraction were hush-hush. Today its all out in the open and no one gives a damn about who is sleeping with whom. Its the moment that counts and then its all forgotten.
@Lommy99997 ай бұрын
I don't think things are so open nowadays. Maybe among younger generations. I think society can still be very homophobic and cruel, and many people still choose to live in the closet. It really depends on the circles you're in and the location. And even then you will be surprised by the amount of fear and how conservative people can be. Things are still better than ever.
@ianedwards44007 ай бұрын
Judging from his life-story, I do not believe that Alain had any sort of gay proclivities. Every time I see snapshots of his gorgeous face, I feel James Dean is looking back at me. The resemblance is uncanny. His face was made for the camera and the camera caressed every angle of his face. His affairs with various women was legion, but the one true love of his life was the very charming, Romy Schneider who died early. He flitted from woman to woman hoping to find that spark he shared with Romy, but he just didn't find it. Despite the intemperate lifestyle that he lived, at 88 years, he still alive and kicking.

It seems to be vox populi in certain circles that the reason for the breakup between Alain Delon and Romy Schneider is that she found him in bed with another man. Whether this is true or not, we will never know. In fact, despite their breakup, they remained friends until the death of the actress. There is also talk that he let himself be loved by Visconti at the beginning of his career. Rumors, rumors. I particularly doubt he was gay, but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't mind having explored other sexual options. His ego was too big not to be seduced from one side or the other.

My apologies in advance, I'm super dyslexic,there will be mistakes. Helmut Berger was my godfather, I remember being in a restaurant in Paris & Delon came in with a group,most of whom seemed to know Berger,this would have been in the mid 70s. The two of them were like a pair of petulant children & though both of the groups joined up,they quite literally blanked each other sitting as far apart as possible. From what I knew & was told by Berger & my mother Delon had put the moves on Berger's partner ,the great Italian filmmaker Luchino Visconti,they might even have lived together before Berger, who was openly bisexual moved in for a long affair with Visconti.Berger bedded Delons wife/girlfriend to spite him. But in those days anyone who was anyone was a bit or a lot bisexual! Think Jagger & Bowie; many times it would include a woman ,in the J&B situation, this was confirmed by a singer Ava Cherry who's on record as saying she was in bed with them both on multiple occasions, but really just played the spectator, while the two of them got it on together. Berger & Delon were total opposites & were really not in competition, but the Visconti thing set up a longterm feud. Berger accused Delon of getting his young son 6 or 7 at the time to write to Visconti to get back into his favour. Delon definitely proved his 'swimmers' worked by have 3 children that were acknowledged but also rumours of others by various women who were neither one of his 3 wives. His history with women is problematic at best & abusive at worst - though one of the last 'monstres sacrés' of French/European cinema - he has admitted publicly to slapping women. He may have said what you quoted regarding being gay,but,is also on record as saying homosexuality was unnatural. Though in a later interview supported gay marriage but was opposed to them having rights to adopt children. I was very lucky to have such an amazing childhood, my mother had many connections to show business. At one point we lived in Westport,Connecticut, with Bette Davis as a neighbour - she let me actout the cigarette scene from "Now Voyager". I would have been 10,any loved lighting cigarettes for the "grownups" Paul Newman & Joanne Woodward live further up from us & many times I, with my parents, would be at a BBQ at their home, with Hollywood "Royalty" in attendance. One memorable occasion Rock Hudson turned up in drag with a beautiful black man on each arm! Paul Newman is another beautiful man,who had an arrangement with his wife,allowing him affairs with men like Delon,he had the most incredible eyes. I'm not just simply name dropping,but trying to explain a culture pre social media & everyone having not just a still camera with them 24/7, but,also the ability to film & distribute their own little movies,for the most part to the detriment of the famous subjects. It was also a very serious business, with people whose sole job was covering up actors "problematic" sex/private lives,this went for women,too. What happened in Hollywood /the USA,was mirrored in Europe, where it was probably 100% more decadent! Delon like my godfather were "products" that were carefully managed/presented to the hetronormative masses as aspirational figures/lifestyles, those who are remembered to the point of Iconic were really tough ruthlessly ambitious people, who would do anything to get to & stay at "The Top". If you were beautiful, you could come from povery - in many cases - & attain money & a lifestyle,making you so rich,the world was quite literally yours. Trying to define people by putting labels on them is futile and outing someone is repugnant,probably even more so after their death, when they can't defend themselves. I'm not being a hypocrite as I've mentioned nothing about anyone,which isn't in some form in the public domain. I think & have had many discussions over the last 50 years,that one of the reasons so many famous male actors got it on with other men,but,keep it secret was number one it was illegal & could destroy your career; number two, men are far more "wash & go" with regards to sex & even more importantly can't fall pregnant a situation that could also destroy your career & even your marriage, regardless that the marriage was for camouflage - sometimes on both sides - and is still a practice in todays supposedly freer,more open & equal society. One only has to look around the world & what many gay men in countries where equal right are enshrined in law & many of the younger generation take for granted, would result in death in 11 countries & imprisonment/hard core persecution in around 70 ( including the 11 with a death sentence)supposedly civilised societies for simply doing things that "straight" people take completely for granted. Alain Delon,was a product of his time : no one can take away the fact he was one of the most beautiful men in the world, but,like my much missed godfather who famously played Dorian Gray,there is no portrait in the attic; age & lifestyle choices eventually catch up with you,your body that was once capable of amazing feats,be they sexual or athletic fails you & age catches up with you. i Now 84 age hasn't been particularly kind to Delon,but,wow he must have had some fun,behind those doors that will forever stay closed/locked to the majority of people.

Agree with your observations, when I a late teen, I made friends with directors and producers from Mexico and Hollywood (L.A. born) and that time every actor I met through these men were gay, very few were bisexual and fewer still, straight. After having a couple flings with some actors that became household names in 90s, I began a long affair with my boss, a producer, that up to that time, had never been with a guy before and was interested in experimenting and later the wife was OK with it as long as she had the cash to shop, and that began the kind of decadent life that you mentioned. Big names from the past were mentioned at cocktail parties by family members and ex-partners alike, who was a transvestite or who a pedophile was frequently mentioned to my surprise at that innocent time of my life! Most reoccurring story was that Indeed Paul Newman was having affairs with men while his wife had them with women and that actors such Spencer Tracy, William Holden and Marcello Mastro...were closet cases. In my opinion most actors are whores, they would do anything for an opportunity in film or television and many actually did survive by selling their favors and just any peek at any acting classes anywhere, will open your eyes on just how gay is the acting world, and it hasn't change, at present I'm in the lives of quite a few men and women that coming out as gays or bisexuals would an end to their career, gorgeous people cannot take that kind of plunge when their being casted as romantic leads, character actors have successfully done that, but they were never a somebody's wet dream to begin with! One I always remember is that entertainers are just people and there's nothing really special about them, not a single one of them were the greatest I ever had and some were just plain weird , suffering from narcissisism, arrogance and deep sexual inadequate feelings about their bodies and methods and to that let's add drugs and booze, not something that left me or my friends with the best feelings about those in the limelight, but happily married to an auto-mechanic, the series man I've ever met!! ❤

I truly admire your godfather. He was extremely handsome and talented! he was amazing as Ludwig alongside Romy Schneder (also austrian like him) and as Marttin (in the Damned) both times directed by Visconti. I agree with you. All these great stars were "products" of their time... I think it was a magnificent era ...

Thanks for kind words,as I was only 6/7 when The Dammed was released & 7/8 when Dorian Gray came out,I'd obviously not seen them,though somewhere my mother has pics from set of both. During a trip to Paris in 77 or 78 we'd been at a dinner where people were talking about them & he very sweetly arranged a screening of both for me,During which he made little comments. Both he & my mother died earlier this year & I rewatched his films online, saving Dorian Gray,till last as my parents were extras,in the party scenes. Best wishes to you&yours.

Wow thanks for sharing your fascinating stories. We idolize actors in our culture and imagine they have wonderful lives. But , really they are just people like the rest of us who live their lives in between work projects. Being a great actor/entertainer doesn’t necessarily make you a nice person. Plenty of actors who were great on screen, we’re not nice people. Plenty we’re great on screen and we’re nice people.

Perfect timing. In the last 2 weeks I watched Mr Klein and the Red Circle. Delon had a bad start in life but fate graced him very handsome looks which he got lucky. Apart from Michelle Pfeiffer I have not heard of someone plucked from obscurity simply based on their looks. The other beautiful people chased fame, looks like it was handled down to Delon. He was a good actor but so far Inthe 2 films I saw him in he just played stoic cool which is pretty easy to do.

Because of the risks of that time. I'm not even gay, yet I understand. I am a fan of many Gay Black Men, Vanoye Aikens, and other actors and dance choreographers from the US who found success in Europe in those days. Thank goodness today there is not as much risk. The government has passed laws for them over other groups which makes it an advantage in that case.
