Alain Delon was not a suspect nor was he ever accused of being directly responsible for the murder of his "bodyguard", he was not even in Paris when the murder took place, he was "under investigation" , the Police were convinced he knew a lot more about who was responsible than he was willing to divulge to them so they hauled him in a few times for some tough questioning but he refused to co operate or offer any information. Delon knew who was responsible that is almost certain, but he was not about to share that information with the Police. It is a subject he would rather not talk about, certainly not on a chat show, his discomfort when it is brought up here is palpable. A close life long friend and associate of Delon was arrested and charged with the murder but was later released due to lack of evidence. Markovic was employed as Delon's " bodyguard"..he was a gambling cheat, a fixer, supplier of drugs, prostitution, and with gangland links, he had been involved in blackmailing some prominent figures, basically he was pissing off quite a few people including Delon and some of Delon's associates outside the film world. Markovic was found tied up in a sack on a rubbish dump on the outskirts of Paris with a bullet through the back of his head. One plausible theory is that President Pompidou ordered his murder because he and his wife were being blackmailed by him, there is some credence to that theory. The murder remains unsolved.
