That’s what I admire about my wife. We met when she came to the USA to study…and essentially left her entire behind in Korea to stay here with me. This can also be said about my parents uprooting themselves/family to immigrate to the USA. Truly a brave and selfless act of those that does it.

They pointed out it's because of his hair and beard, especially because it's not common in the least for Korean men to have beards. But his looks are still unconventional in Korea, which doesn't make him "Korea handsome". He's basically like Bobby from the k-pop group IKON. He's not typically handsome, but has charisma and a badass sort of look.

This should be required viewing for anyone planning on getting married. Unlike the movies portraying the image of "happily ever after," real marriage is hard and unflattering. It requires sacrifice and selflessness. When children enter the picture, multiply the level of difficulty and get ready for an onslaught of unwanted surprises. This episode captured a lot of invaluable lessons that most media never shows. Thank you to the beautiful parents and children for sharing a part of lives. It is nice that Emily's husband isn't the type of guy that feels awkward when his wife is being sweet to him. Are we both watching the same video? This guy comes off as lazy and ungrateful to me. He doesn't help around the house AT ALL. When his wife went to see him at work with the kids, she helped him with his job, but he couldn't help her in the house or AT LEAST watch the kids while she was cooking. Being "tired" is not an excuse since he's not the only one who's "tired" here, she's been working all day as well. I would lose my mind if I had a husband like that. She's very patient and tolerates his behavior. I lost it when he started complaining about his wife's cooking as if she didn't spend a long time standing in the kitchen just to make him food. I'm surprised that she didn't lash out at him and ask him what his problem is. The least he could do was thank her for feeding him. Gender stereotypes are indeed very much alive in Korea and the woman is still expected to do EVERYTHING around the house with no rest or help. I feel bad for her. I hope that he can learn to appreciate her and start helping her out instead of complaining and nagging at her.

I finally understood why my mom keeps stocking up food in her fridge, I think the fear of not having food and having to find time to buy them when you have so many kids to care for, is such huge fear that causes so much anxiety in all the moms, and the only way to calm that anxiety is to have as much food as possible in the house 🤣
@myshoesnotyours

Keeping a well stocked fridge is a thing in Canada. Because of our density grocery stores are further away. Most families visit grocery stores once per week. Even for condos / apartment buildings, it's uncommon to have a grocery store right at the ground level. If you forget to buy something / urgently need something.... it's more borrow it from your next door neighbour than go to a store to buy it.

I felt for her when the husband kept putting food back. ARGH when you're the primary caregiver to THREE young children with the nearest groceries an intimidating ten minute drive away you do not have time to be going to the shop to top up the things you need. And they're a family of FIVE. It'd be nice if hubby took a step back and recognised that maybe his wife knows best about this as she's the one who prepares the meals. After all, she doesn't try to change things when she goes to help him at HIS job, she just follows his lead and helps without getting in the way.

I disagree with the commentors who are saying that the husband is a nightmare or red flag. Yes, he can be more understanding of Emily's system and complain less. But he has good traits. He works hard. He tries to help Emily out like improving her driving skills. He tries to learn and cook with her. Most importantly, they clearly love each other/their kids, and their kids can see it. Expecting improvement is fair but perfection is not.

@@udontevenwannaknowbruv How they are living is very traditional and its whats works best for society. Mothers are nurturers and she is doing a fantastical job at it. To be honest she is a strong woman who is very into her femininity because she provides a nurturing and peaceful place to her family. The husband, although tired after work, is doing his best to work almost 12 hours a day of physical labor in order to get money for food, rent and their life, he is doing his job as a provider and being the father to the kids. Both of them are working as a team to raise a family, this is one best example of a nuclear family, sometimes life is rough, having a family is never a happy ever after, because both husband and wife have to face issues together. By working together, they played to their strengths but also supports each other's weaknesses. You might be poisoned or told by modern society that this might look wrong but civilization through out history has lived and worked with this type of nuclear family. If what you were taught was different, then good luck getting married or having a family.

In one scene, the mother asked the firstborn to speak to her in english but the child got frustrated too saying she doesnt know how to say her words in english and they both cried while hugging each other and the mother apologising for not being korean. Another worry was the father being too intimidating. They did exercises in the end to communicate better with each other. But from what I saw, the family is actually very loving. My hope is that after watching this he realizes how he comes across when he starts nagging her like that; and doing it in front of the kids is a big, major “no”, as it could make them lose respect for her in the long run. She reminds me of myself in my 30s, people pleasing and accepting of behaviors from men (and people in general) that one should never accept. If the male host calls him out she can too. She can do it in a gentle manner, but it should ideally be tackled. It’s not ok to criticize her cooking when she’s putting in such and effort, and tell her stuff like “you should have cleaned the table”. Get you a freaking cloth and clean the darn table yourself, she’s already cooked you dinner after spending all day taking care of your cute but noisy ass kids, the nerve.

I used to take care of this 2 kids before & they might be the cutest little things, but it was not e-a-s-y🥲 they also had some wild specie episodes... i remembered this scissor flying towards me, i was so glad i didn't expire🥹 And the curiosity just never ends, it makes me feel dumb when i can't answer their questions🥸... i just think i can never be like my mom... how did all the mothers survive? this is just an enigma to me

This is such a healthy thing to show. They clearly love each other, but fighting is always going to happen. There are huge cultural differences but they’re not letting it get in the way, which is great. Boson’s parents are the in laws you dream of, and I LOVE that they understand exactly how hard things can be for Emily at times. After living in SK for three years, I know that not many people truly understand what Emily goes through living on the other side of the planet. The fact they both have such love and support around them and for each other… it’s lovely to see.

Such a huge responsibility and still shows how much she love and adore her. husband. The three kids brings out the good and the bad side of the parents of to cope things in their lives. I cannot help to admire Bosun’s family as they love Emily -- she is like an Asian woman. Emily is patient, very loving, caring and a good wife. She loves her family so much. Bosun’s heartfelt words about his family was very heartwarming and full of care as he said,”his family nis his life”. I cried when he cried, his honesty and sincerity about his family is sweet and loving. God bless them all. ❤Thank you so much for sharing. This is one of my favourites from K-Doc. ❤

You don't have to be a perfect person to be perfect for the one you love. Even despite their quirks and disagreements, you can see how the strength of their love fills in the gaps and smooths their rough edges. This is what keeps them united and smiling even through hard times. I think that's beautiful and so rare nowadays. I really admire how they are raising their kids. These little ones will soon grow up into responsible, caring, independent, respectful people who know exactly what real love looks like because they were surrounded by so much of it every day. Alone each one is nothing, but together, they are a family--growing together, learning from each other, becoming better through their sacrifices for each other.

I am glad his family loves her unconditionally ❤. Since the kids behave when dad is around. He and mom should create a schedule for the kids and pin it up where they can see it and he should explain the schedule so that it can be enforced...so that they can get their homework done ..get all school paperwork checked and signed on time, do small chores around to keep yhe space tidy, when to play at home and outside in the park, when to get a snack. This was a refreshing look into a couple’s lives with children. Most (American-esque) shows would relentlessly take deep jabs on either side and the partners would remain angry with each other throughout their differences. This was a realistic look at how both people can be exhausted from the work, but still put it in because it’s necessary and good while also supporting each other through it.
