It's quite complex, involving a split in the Orthodox church away from historical Russian leadership & establishing a heretical Ukrainian patriarchate under Ukrainian state influence / control in approx 2016 / 2017. Kiev closed all the churches under the leadership of Patriarch Kirill, & plundered the church treasures. The priests were evicted & monks evicted from many monasteries. Some were tortured by waterboarding etc. Patriarch Kirill's written directive to his flock was to physically protect the church with their bodies, but any violence was strictly forbidden. (I heard the directive being read out by our priest in the UK) At Pascha (Easter) 2023 Ukraine fired on the packed cathedral, & surrounding square in Donetsk during the night service. The dome was broken, but miraculously, nobody was killed. I e-mailed my MP about my concerns about the Kiev government. Reply - she would refer it to the appropriate dept - I got no reply. Syria is heart breaking. The secular government with Bashan Assad had achieved peaceful cohabitation not only between the different Islamic sects but also between Islam & the different Christian denominations. The "rebels" who WE supported, slaughtered them by thousand.

If Rishi comes to my home town for an election hustings I intend to ask him the question as to whether it is true that one of the reasons he called the election is that he does not want to be a war time PM. PS I'm not saying his answer will be truthful but the question needs asking! Btw in my opinion the war in Ukraine is virtually over and Russia has won. Biden wants to kick the failure down the tracks until after the election in USA and in "not on my watch". Other than humanitarian aid UK should not be getting involved in Ukraine which is not a member of NATO. Why should we get involved in USA's proxy war thereby placing us in danger? I spent several days in Hospital/post op, in November 2023. One of my caring staff was a young, 'serving', army medic who was there for formal training. As a veteran, we had a certain affinity, which lead to longish periods of chats whilst I was confined to the single occupancy intensive care unit. It was during one of those periods that the lad let slip, that there was a whole load of our military activity, being 'exercised' in Ukraine !

I'm Irish, and I'm an Irish Nationalist who wants to see my country united. I value Irish neutrality and Irish sovereignty. When i was young and in my teens, i joined the FCA (Forca Cosanta Aitiúil) or the Local Defence Force. This was voluntary. I used to go on summer camps for a few weeks in summer and learn the discipline of army life, wearing a uniform, marching, and I got to fire weapons. This is something every youngster should have experience doing. I would much rather have a local defence force like this than any EU alternative.

Everything is pushed forward under the table in a vain effort of using stealth mode and their thinking must be that most people are to thick to realise what might be going down. Britain could currently amass around 35,000 boots on the ground (given the fact all of the military is not all fighting people) and given current rates on attrition in ukrain they would last about 6 weeks....you can add all of Nato in but the majority of it is just tiny tin pot outfits and so it would mainly fall on the US. The worry for me is when they all take a beating and are losing what then? The only country to have used Atomic or Nukes on a nation before is the US.....the same country that gone on about them more than anyone else the past few years. Thats the scarey part. Conventionally they wont win.......so i think we all should worry.
