Nice summary but I think I have a few disagreements. 24:46 I think it was probably good that Eclipsa chose not to try and force proximity between monsters and humans. Especially so soon after humans effectively had their lands stolen by monsters. Do I buy what they wound up going with? Not really. But I do think Star and her dad emotionally appealing to the people works better than Eclipsa trying to force humans and monsters together via decree. Star bringing monsters and humans together is ultimately a lot more believable than Eclipsa doing it would have been. Of course they could have developed her character, but that hasn't been a thing for a long time in this kind of television. 3:46 They probably didn't want to risk making Eclipsa unlikable, or Moon likeable. It's not good writing in any case. Your idea makes way more sense.

I think Eclipsa not having a "fish out of temporal water" storyline could actually the greatest bit of storytelling *consistency* in the series. Mewni is just so stagnant/regressive that a Queen from hundreds of years ago will have little trouble getting used to the modern day.

I get why star wanted to give her back the wand and role as queen but I don’t think that’s something eclipsa particularly wanted. She willingly gave that life up for globgor and their daughter. I think she would’ve been happy to just live somewhere in peace with her family. I don’t think ruling was ever for her.

Star felt unworthy and blames herself for taking the throne away from her despite the fact that Eclipsa didn't want the throne anymore and just wants her family back. It was the high commision's fault. Star and her family were just as victims like Eclipsa. I thought season 4 was going to be Star realizing that she is a great leader, but that didn't happened.

To me, season 3 Eclipsa was the best, because you can tell she was morally grey - selfish and whimsical, but also had a wise, rather mature aura about her, like she always knew what she was doing and what to say when asked. Half the season even is Eclipsa giving life advices and tips to Star [and Moon], but after it was confirmed 100% she's not evil and became queen, she kinda turned into "season 1 Sar 2.0" and began acting rash, childish, and even outright neglectful. It's like the writers didn't know what to do with her after her red herring subplot was over and all that could keep her relevant was being quirkly.

Season 3 was her best moment until season 4 messed it up. I always wonder what Toffee thought about Eclipsa. We will never know. I think Toffee might have respected her since she trying to help the monsters.

Fun fact: Eclipsa's love for monsters did not come from nowhere. Her father was not originally so racist and callas like Solaria. He was going to sign a peace treaty with them, until one of his close friends was suddenly killed by one. Given her father was Solaria's advisor, and not originally a monster hater, I'd like to think she got her kindness from him, having heard his stories of liking them before the inevitable. I wish we knew more on him.

I don't think her selfishness was necessarily bad, in fact I think it was kinda healthy. She left an abusive relationship in a situation where people were willing to kidnap and imprison her whole family while being wiling to act like they didn't even exist. They could have found another way to handle it politically but the high commission didn't and they wouldn't have.

@@HeadHunter-mv2ht HE traded HER child because HE thought "it" was disgusting, the high commission just went along with it because they agreed with him, and that's straight up child abuse. Not all abuse is in your face, explicitly stated, or violent. Like as a mixed bisexual woman, for example, if I was forced to marry a racist socially conservative homophobe then I'd count his literal hatred for my existence and basic human rights as inherently abusive. And every rant, retaliation, ect as further exercise of that abuse. If we were to treat that realistically, he at the VERY LEAST wasn't going to be a supportive or loving husband and at the most was actively making her aware of and subjecting her to his prejudices. They married her (against her own choice) to him under the impression he'd make her "fall in line" with those politics, the situation was ALL about controlling and limiting her to those ideals. That situation is *inherently* abusive, even if they managed to mitigate most conflict. (Not being aggressive btw, just laying out my personal thought process behind what constitutes abuse in this kind of situation.)

Eclipsa's selfishness is healthy for your average person. It however is not a trait acceptable for a queen. Being a Queen means sacrificing of yourself for your people. Eclipsa was NEVER queen material, because she didn't care about her people. But, she was fine as your average person.

They literally made her disappear when she didn't do what they wanted, which was basically just to abdicate the throne not even go against them policy wise. She was never going to be given any real level of power. If you were *born* into a situation where you were just going to be a puppet your whole life, forced to act as tho you hate a whole segment of people you personally support for some abusers, would you just stay there and let that happen because "a Queen does anything for her people"?? Because frankly, I wouldn't. As a Bi mixed woman I'd never allow myself to be forced to politically discriminate against and frankly genocide other LGBTQ or non-white races as a Queen, even if it mean meant running away with a black girlfriend so they can't use me against her. Staying is not doing anything "necessary for your people" as a Queen, that's just being a puppet for your husband and the high commission until they find a way to get rid of you so they can fully fuck over those people and anyone can be that puppet (as they proved). She was never going to be allowed to be Queen her way, she was only going to be allowed to be a pretty face of endorsement for her husband and the high commission. And when she disappeared for good they carried on without her like nothing even happened, because to them SHE wasn't necessary. *(Not being aggressive btw, just explaining why I don't even think as "a Queen" she was unheathily selfish, the high commission and her husband were.)*

I know you mentioned river, but honestly I felt eclipsa and tom not talking was a complete missed opportunity. Tom is literally a royal half monster child of mixed parents and eclipsa NEVER really speaks to any of them. We never hear her thoughts on them or anything. Eclipsa went to meet all the royal families OFFSCREEN, a meeting with the lucitors who basically parallel her and globgor sounds so INTERESTING. I wanted to know why the lucitors personally didn't like her, and what is like for them to rule their respective kingdoms (like the lucitors were literally the only mixed royal couple before she was queen ). How does Tom's dad handle being the only mewman running a monster kingdom? Missed opportunity honestly, the lucitors had so much potential

That part when star and Marco left their healthy and cute realationship for no other reason then the writers wanted it just single handedly ruined the show for me. I don't know what it is it just got under my skin so bad. Felt gross.

My biggest problem with her was they kept alluding to the fact that she might be evil or have done really evil things but then the writers didn't have the balls to go through with it and settled for "misunderstood" instead.

I don't think it was settling. I think it was meant to draw a parallel to how monsters are perceived. And as for her magic, it was probably perceived as purely evil because it was powerful and often negative, and could corrupt people easily if they had evil in their own hearts.

She always laughed at the reactions her goth shenanigans got her Buuut if you wanna talk doing some actually messed up stuff she did created the deadliest spells known to magic kind and just gave them to any butterfly who struck a deal.

(Please note any aggression and hostility is not leveled towards you I just like ranting) The woman was absolutely horrendous at her job and her trauma does not justify her actions and inactions. The show points to those who oppose Eclipsa as narrow-minded bigots and to be fair many of them were. However, Eclipsa did absolutely nothing to try and correct this outdated mindset. What did Eclipsa do, abandoned the people to fend for themselves and went to go build a new castle somewheres else. Mind you the destruction caused to the capital was caused by HER kid. She uprooted her people out of their homes, why, because it was previously monster land. So she took someone else’s land and gave it to her favored group hmmmmm. Just because monsters have had a raw deal doesn’t justify kicking people out of their homes. This is after she abdicated the throne instead stomping her foot down and saying no I am marrying who I want and anyone who wants to complain can kiss my burning black flames. To be a good leader requires a strong backbone and that is something she just doesn’t have. An uprising like what Moon lead was always coming whether Mina had been there to incite it or not. Eclipsa is a coward and a terrible leader who never should have been put back on the throne as she just isn’t capable of seeing past her bias. What if she had used the forces she was using to renovate the monster temple into you know rebuilding everyone’s homes, using a mix of human and monsters. She could have indeared people to monsterkind by making sure humanitarian aid was rendered largely by monsterkind showing that these frightening creatures aren’t the mindless, hateful beasts they appear to be. Why did Moon want power, likely to stop Eclipsa from making more stupid decisions that actively hurt far more than the minuscule ways it helped.

@@devilovesdevil The writers really seemed genuinely oblivious to the huge flaws they gave Star throughout the whole show. That episode where Star goes to town looking for the Banagic Wand was *painful*. Marco says, "I don't think you can go to town alone yet." Several times. Star COULD wait until Marco is done what he already had planned before her sudden whim for something she saw in a commercial, but instead goes off herself, acts like a complete idiot, does thousands of dollars in property/personal damages, assaults a bunch of actors, but still gets what she wants in the end, and for no reason at all, things work out. BANAGIC! Marco says, "Wow, I was wrong. I underestimated you," to which she slaps the food she just gave him out of his hands and walks off in a daze like he just shot her puppy. 1) Did she have no idea what "underestimate' meant, until Marco told her? She was clearly there for the bits where he said she couldn't/shouldn't go alone, and for the whole section where she effed up absolutely everything along the way and hurt a bunch of people. 2) Marco apologized and said he was wrong, (which he clearly wasn't, even though he didn't know that.) Was this really an appropriate response to an apology you don't deserve? Moral: Don't underestimate dangerously entitled narcissists. (Or if you do, don't tell them, because they're probably too dumb to figure it out on their own.) ...But, y'know, GIRL POWER!

When Eclipsa first came up and the flashbacks with Moon happened, I was extremely interested in her. Why was she locked up? Why was her part of the book forbidden? Did she purposely give Moon that weird black stuff when they shook hands? When she finally appeared, I was extremely disappointed because she wasn't what I thought she would be and nothing about the deal she and Moon made was ever mentioned. Moon only said that Eclipsa did it to her and that was it. Despite this disappointment, I actually liked what I got, as long as I pretend the build up to her didn't happen or at least happened differently. As many people pointed out, she was selfish, but I can understand why. She grew up in a monster hating world. She married and started a family with a monster only to be locked away and have her daughter be tortured and brainwashed for years. Then this strange child (Moon) keeps coming to her, being her only company. Once she was free, it's understandable why she was selfish. She's playing catch-up. She's had these Queenly duties thrust upon her when she wasn't ready and got a ton of push back that she never wanted. She tried to do what she could but again, she wasn't ready, so when the going got tough, she chose herself. It wasn't always the right decision and did cause trouble, but that's part of her character. Unlike everyone else, Eclipsa remained consistent and stable in her beliefs. She didn't start as great as I wanted and thought she would be, but she ended up great in what we got and thus became one of the best characters in the show, possibly THE greatest character.

You can see the difference in Eclipsa's conception in the scene of her getting pinned down by Omni (with a casual look on her face) in the garden vs her nearly getting imprisoned again by Rhombulus during her coronation (looking scared and desperate). She also seems to have lost her mischievous charm by Season 4, her entire personality now being "perpetually persecuted victim," kinda like when Lapis first appeared in Steven Universe and got captured by Homeworld Forces.

Oh, you nailed it! Until I read this comment, I just couldn’t pin down why I didn’t enjoy Eclipsa during Season 4 despite loving her so much during the previous season. Yes, during Season 3 she always had an air of mischief coupled with a very different yet compelling perspective when compared to everyone else that just made it so exciting every time she was on screen, but once she was proven innocent… Yes, I do think the Lapis Lazuli comparison works perfectly here.

I feel a sort of tension post-Season 2, where perhaps (and rightly so) Star was becoming uninteresting as a main character because her problems were so pedestrian, so they added Eclipsa as a second main character (while Marco, the main male lead, gets demoted to Star's satellite love interest in all but name until the end of the final season) to tell a more interesting story about the show's grander themes and history now that its previous "villain protagonist," Ludo, was out of the picture.

Palpatine had a point: "Good and evil is just a point of view" Yes, it was wrong of Eclipsa to ditch her kingdom and her people and she could have divorced Shastican if she wanted to. No, I don't think she was wrong to hook up with Globgor and marry him since they genuinely loved each other. Eclipsa was,more or less,ahead of her time but should have reigned in her selfishness a bit more. Plus, we all know the attitude towards monsters was not positive,unless they were rich or a part of the Magic High Commission.

@@Mary0959 Technically, annulment is the "Catholic divorce". I have nothing against Catholics,it's just what I've been told what annulment is in high school. Divorce is ending a marriage and making it clear to others that couple is no longer together. Annulment is basically erasing any and all evidence that the marriage even happened in the first place. Some Catholics have a negative view on divorce, so annulment was the compromise I guess politically speaking, annulling the marriage would cause less of an uproar between the two kingdoms than a divorce would

Honestly that part of her makes her fascinating for me. Too often in fiction they'll have a character being selfish even once be blown out of proportion and demonized, with the character being either turned evil as a result or excessively punished for it - even when what they did out of selfishness was minimal at best. It was interesting to see a character who behaved selfishly but isn't presented as evil for it - just a person.

I have always liked the idea of Festivia being Jushtin's granddaughter. That he married a Spiderbite duchess and moved to Pie island to live a quiet life. Then their kid(s) went on to have Festivia. Most likely because the island is far removed from magic, the cheek marks weren't present when she was born and only appeared later when exposed more to it. And the idea makes sense in a few ways. I mean, in real life if there were no kids born or able to take the throne of royalty under the current King, the crown would go to one of the King’s siblings or a nephew instead. If there are none that can/are able, then back another generation again with the King’s uncles or his uncles/aunts kids (the Kings first cousins) or their grandkids (Kings first cousins once removed). It really doesn't make sense that even in the Mewni kingdom, they'd chose someone with no relation to the throne to become monarch. It might as well be a democracy if blood doesn't matter. And in the Butterfly lineage they did the opposite of what irl monarch's did and didn't have dozens of kids (legitimate and not). They usually only had one. And at max, 2. Given their leaning towards magic that is perhaps why they felt much more comfortable in having so few. As in the past disease and other health problems would kill a lot of children, including royal ones. Which is why they'd have so many. To make sure there was someone to inherit the throne. Also, side note that the Butterfly's almost always seem to have firstborn girls who are able to take the throne. Just thought I’d mention that. Very strange when you think about it. And finally, as to bring up evidence that’s a bit more in universe. Jushtin and Festivia have quite a few similarities that push the idea. They both have purple hair, both are very outgoing and sociable, and they both enjoy partying. And of course that scene in The Tavern at the End of the Multiverse where as spirits, he has his hands on her shoulders in a sort of protective hold which showcases at least in the afterlife they became close if they weren't already related. But still it points to a connection, I think. Sorry for how long this comment was, just wanted to give my two cents on the matter. And it would mean that the Butterflys now aren't actually frauds just that they shifted power wrongfully from the true heir based off a bigoted decision.

The answer is YES. Eclipsa literally killed her daughter to save her kingdom and Star because she cared. Every act of selfishness was not only justified but also eclipsed by her acts of selflessness

What do you mean killed her daughter?? She stopped Moon from doing that and almost let Meteora suck her soul then Moon fleed to the magic dimension where she infected the magic with meteora/eclipsa's dark magic that eventually led to Cleaved. She made Meteora a baby not exactly killed her.

@@andreiz112dn5 Yes she stopped Moon, because her motherly Insticts kicked in. But she immediately amde up for it when she used the wand with the full intention to kill Meteora. Remember she didn't even know that Meteora would turn into a baby, which is why she cried.

Eclipsa succesfully managed to de-escalate the situation and opened room for solving things peacefully and Moon just went and threw a rock at her head and proceeded to go for the kill. Moon was the queen and she just witnessed her people getting their souls ripped out of their bodies by a rogue monster-mewman creature going on a rampage, she had a duty to defend her people! Obviously she had to do everything in her power to defeat Meteora, she just saw an opportunity by Meteora being distracted as she didn't trust Eclipsa to successfully de-escalate the situation and since Meteora was determined to take back the throne i highly doubt she would've stopped or even return the stolen souls. And Moon isn't some raging racist against monsters, She even befriended Buff Frog in Battle for Mewni making steps towards acceptance of monsters going against everything she grew up hearing and believing about monsters, you know isn't easy. And she just stated in the finale she never ordered the Solarians to attack monsters(even thou she was a bit of an idiot for trusting Mina)

The thing is I feel like Eclipsa’s main focus during the series was to find a way to get her family back after being uncrystallized. She never seems interested in the crown or wand before Star makes her queen, and then her only concern when she has the wand is to find a way to free her husband. She also knows from prior experience that helping monsters and gaining respect is an uphill battle, so she might be a tad apathetic to her role as queen until she sees that those who remained in the kingdom are willing give her and her family a chance to rule and be together. She’s certainly selfish but I think given the circumstances her actions are understandable for someone who lost a lot due to a hatred of monsters from her mother and kingdom.

The thing is, it’s a theory that star’s family, starting from festivia, are actual butterfly’s, but not in a way you’d think, in the episode, back to the wand, were the past queens show them selfs , we see festivia and jushtin embracing each other, for the entire scene, and if you look closely, they look similar, the hair colour, the fabulous glamour look, the eye colour, in Justin’s chapter, it’s said after his sister was born and her was no longer heir, he helped out going on missions across meiwni , the theory is that jushtin met a girl on pie island and fell in love, starting a family, yes, festivia might be the great great so grand daughter to jushtin, as the long period of time between him and Eclipsas imprisonment, so when meteroa was switched, the mhc somehow found a baby , festivia, that was unknowingly an actual butterfly, then crowned , so in simple terms, star is Eclipsas some great x 10+ cousin/and or nephew, idk how that works completely xd. Thoughts?

I think Eclipsa never changed that much in S4. She was always motivated by love for her family so she ignored her responsibilities as a ruler. She likely didn’t even wanted to be the queen of Mewni before she was crystallized.

So I feel like a point that will be brought against her is that she is a selfish person, as Kitty has made mention of that point a few times. So to that end, I'd personally like to say that consistent flaw makes her a better character. There are tons of positive and negative choices she makes in a selfish manner, making it feel less like a trope and more like a negative personality aspect, and as far as character writing goes that's pretty great. It is a believable flaw that drives some tension into the narrative all without feeling forced, and I say that detail is just one reason of many as to why she is great.

I felt that there could’ve been more done to actually explore Eclipsa’s backstory and that being selfish is always treated as a bad thing especially for a future queen, but sometimes it s fine to be a little selfish and indulge yourself Her mother was Solaria and Eclipsa was expected to finish her monster carver task, however, we’re shown that Eclipsa just wants to eat Snookers and be with someone who she loves rather than be arranged to marry someone her mother picked out for her Honestly, Mewni is very biased and not much has really changed. I think when it comes to Eclipsa, they just...Never could seem to decide till the very end if she was evil or not. Selfish yeah. But...That's about it. They constantly jumped between hinting if she was evil or up to something or not. And the end result was that she never really got to DO anything outside of her past. And what happend to Moon which was an acccident. Even as Queen she barley did anythign cause it semed like they didn't know what to do with her beyond making her quirky and cute. WHich is honeslty just a shame. If they had made their minds up about her early we could of maybe had a really interesting character and the best in the show. But insead we have more the idea of a really good character with her.

One of my favorite scene with Eclipsa was at "The Tavern at the End of the Multiverse", where Moon asks her how she can play pool at "a time like this", to which Eclipsa replied how "her whole life has been a time like this" and she "learned to enjoy these moments." This to me kind of highlights the complexity of her character and reemphasizes what we already know about her, which is how she seems to be able to enjoy the little bits of life while she can despite being in many dire situations.

I feel like there was such a missed opportunity to make Eclipsa into an antagonist like Eto from Tokyo Ghoul, where she initially comes off as mysterious but nice and funny. But it’s all just a front she puts on to hide a darker and cunning nature so she can manipulate people around her to unknowingly help her further her goals. It would fit in with moon’s warning about her getting into your head and making you do things you don’t want to do. I get that they wrote Eclipsa as a misunderstood protagonist to fit in with the show’s theme of prejudice, but it would have been more interesting to have her actually be a morally grey villain who has a love/hate relationship with Mewnie due to their prejudice but still has some care for them since she’s a Mewmen herself. This mixed relationship becomes more negative though after she’s separated from her family and imprisoned, fueling her desire to re-claim the throne for the monsters as revenge. Also Festevia should have been her daughter or niece. It would have made up for the plot hole as to why Festevia and her descendants have cheek marks despite not being actual butterfly’s. It can’t be due to lifelong magic exposure since Heinous has cheek marks despite being kept away from magic at St. Olga’s her whole life.

I really do like Eclipsa and honestly, I thought the point that would've been made is that just some people aren't cut out for leadership. Now, I'm not saying Eclipsa is a bad person. Far from it in fact she might be the best character, but she's not a good leader. She blows things off like her meeting with the Spiderbites, she's selfish, and there's also the fact she never wanted to be queen in the first place and basically had the duties thrust upon her as a teenager and then when she's an adult in a whole different century so it would've been more interesting if they showed that Eclipsa really didn't want to be queen and just wanted to live a simple life with Globgor and Meteora which Star eventually realizes. Have Star come to realize that she never asked what Eclipsa wanted and make that the conflict between them.

I'm really looking forward to your video on globgor. More specifically him eating Shastakan. I felt like it was really wasted whenever we got that Revelation in the show and they just don't acknowledge the obvious reason he did it. Shastakan got rid of his daughter. After eclipsa was imprisoned. The monster King very likely stormed the castle to find out what happened to his family and upon learning that Shastakan shipped meteora off into another dimension, I don't really blame him for taking a break from being a vegetarian. If somebody had gotten rid of my entire family I would have likely killed them, I wouldn't have eat them but I'm not a 100 ft tall demon Beast either.

I drew a picture of my Queen Eclipsa in my small sketchbook and boy did I do her justice! Eclipsa has got to be one of my favorite characters and my all-time favorite Queen of Mewni an with good reason! Especially since this show hits the tough subjects like the segregation between Monsters and Mewmans and they take that segregation seriously to an extreme and that can be thanks to Eclipsa's mom and the Monster Slayer Queen Solaria. Unlike Solaria who wanted to destroy the Monsters, Eclipsa wanted to make peace and it all started with her first meeting with Globgor as children and since then, they sent secret messages to one another over the years which was cute and I loved that part in her chapter! When it came to her marriage to Shastacan, it was down-right toxic, she even tried to break the marriage off by telling him that she loved the Prince of Darkness Globgor and a marriage between the two will finally bring peace between the Monsters and Mewmans. Instead of being a proper intellectual Prince and understanding how this would solve the conflict, Shastacan laughed in Eclipsa's face and called her a child I was about to throw down on this clown!

I personally think that while she was selfish she wasn’t down right evil. Eclipsa was really kind for wanting to try and bring Mewmins and monsters together, but she was making big changes way too fast. Maybe she could have announced that she spent a week with monsters and they were relatively nice to her, slowly but surely allow them to show up in town, ect. Small things to let the towns people know that monsters aren’t as bad as they think. Or instead of just running off for Globgor right of the bat, she should have made a compromise with the magical high commission like “I don’t think that I should be queen of Mewni so take the wand and find a replacement.” Of course the second option is still selfish, but she’d be admitting to not being the best queen.

She was fine. She had good moments to showcase her strength which was hyped, I am talking about her fights sequences, wish they showed more of her spells. She could have been a great villain to end the show something like Heart vs Spade: Kingdom's Fate. Instead they went for the "shock" factor, they wanted Eclipsa to be the good person painted evil, so the only one left to take the antagonist was Moon, which was so out of character, I believe they either didn't know how to end the story or condensed and cut too much out of story that we got that messy ending. I still have question regarding Eclipsa's backstory like: 1. How did Meteora ended at Butterfly Castle with Shastacan? 2. Which one was crystalized first, Eclipsa or Globgore? I believe Globgore was, I mean she knew or had a hunch where to search for him. 3. Why didn't they "attack" I mean recover their baby together? 4. When she left was Meteora born? 5. When she left did she give the king the wand or let the wand in her room or somewhere to be founded? Her story, just like this show, is all over the place, I have watched other people that purchased the Magic Spell Book, read from her chapter but it's not mentioned any of her "eloping" details. Maybe someone can answer me, but I doubt it.

Eclipsa is easily the best character in the show and two scenes that stand out to me that cemented her as the best character for me. First was the trial. Eclipsa asks about what happened to her daughter and after learning what the High Magic Commission has done, she doesn't get angry or seek out revenge for the horrible thing the HMC did. Any other character would have been utterly consumed with anger and revenge and they would be completely justified. Yet Eclipsa remains calm and doesn't seek out retribution on those who have wronged her and her family. The second is the final battle with Meteora. After all the things that were done to her and the way people treated her, Eclipsa chose to come to Star and the Kingdom's aid and put a stop to Meteora. Eclipsa did care about the kingdom and though she didn't want to fight her daughter, she chose to stand against her. The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few. Also Eclipsa chose to forgive Moon after the horrible and dumb things she did near the end.

Eclipsa is so refreshing to watch to me. She does her own thing and is completely unapologetic about it. She tries her best to keep her choices from affecting others in negative ways but it's their refusal to accept change and lose their bias that makes them judge her! She doesn't care about other's opinion of her, she values herself and her loved ones, she recognizes her shortcomings and does her very best but won't bend to fit other's expectations. I always figured that Eclipsa adjusted so well to the new time because even though time had passed, Mewni itself wasn't really all that different. There were a few things, as time will always cause some form of change, but the temple where she and Globgor had their child and their life together had basically remained untouched for all those centuries. I think she somehow knew that the MHC and the next Queens of Mewni would keep those places guarded but otherwise untouched, due to knowing how they reacted to her and her new chosen family in the first place.

I think it would have been cool that in the final they could have done a three or four parter where they go in the wand, try to team up with the past queens and find/ make a spell that could defeat the warriors. That would would have been a perfect opportunity to show some of the queens back stories, get to know them more, show off how each queen ruled, and many other things. This would also be great time to try for Eclipsea and Salaria to mend their relationship and for Salaria to change her view on monsters (since her grand daughter is half monster) and joining them with finding/making a spell for the warriors.

I’ll never understand how they put so much emphasis on Eclipsa’s connection to dark magic and did nothing with it. Her magic literally corrupted her body, that same corruption which ended up on Moon also corrupted the magical ponies in the Magic dimension. Her chapter is so “evil” that it caused Marco to become possessed and allowed Toffee to possess Ludo’s body. It was still never explained how that happened, how the heck does reading her chapter cause such an effect and how come it didn’t affect Star? I don’t understand why this corrupting/dark force that could corrupt magic wasn’t made as the antagonist across the last two seasons, similar to the build up for Toffee. It also would’ve allowed Eclipsa to maintain her grey morality more, perhaps she knowingly tapped into this force to become powerful in order to protect her family.

We should’ve definitely gotten more about what happened on Mewni after Eclipsa was coronated since the Solarian army and Mina being the final “big bad” feels like it comes out of nowhere. I like your idea that perhaps after a series of unfortunate events Moon decided Eclipsa isn’t fit for the throne and begins to conger up a plan. But nope, we’ve got to make Starco a thing. Because we spend so much time on Earth after Eclipsas coronation it feels like no time has passed on Mewni

honesly Eclipsa shouldn't even be on the throne she lost that right when she was bedding with the enemy and stars failmy had to take the royal duties i think she should been a plot device to show star her actions as queen can have big impact to everything around

I'm not excusing what the High Commission did but if Eclipsa loved Globgor and wanted to marry him instead of Shastacan, she could have stayed and proclaimed that as Queen, she will implement policies that will be friendly to BOTH Mewmans and Monsters. By her running away, it led to Globgor devouring Shastacan and the Mewman/Monster relationship to get worse. If she had stayed and started to mend the relationship, of course she would have a hard time. There would be resistance and even violence but had she stayed and worked to fix the Mewman/Monster relationship so that she can be with Globgor, it would have fixed the conflict so that by the time Star was born, Monsters would be regular Mewni citizens. Eclipsa also had a royal duty to perform that included her having to get pregnant by Shastacan. Royal Life isn't as simple as we make it out to be. The main goal for a ruler is to 1. rule obviously and 2. produce heirs.

Elclipsa was great because she was complex. She provided Star with an alternative perspective. Moon and Eclipsa both had their shining moments, their good advice, neither was perfect. But a perfect character is not interesting or effective. I love that she isn’t perfect. Eclipsa was also imprisoned young, she is still growing as well. But she is old enough to be responsible for her own choices, good and bad. Eclipsa was my fav character as well because of how interesting she made things.

The scene where Eclipsa takes down Meteora is one of my favourite scenes in the entire show. It's heartbreaking, and you feel everything in it. The fact she loved her daughter and hated doing this, but realized she had to. Meteora's utter confusion at her mother hurting her. This was amazing. I suppose I should be mad about Meteora resurrecting as a baby immediately after, but.... I am not. After all the shit everyone went through, we did needed some kind of more optimistic touch to make up for the bleak.

I guess the thing with it that really bothered me about the total condemnation of Eclipsa by the Magical High Commission for abandoning the kingdom is that she's not the *only* queen who ultimately gave up the throne and abandoned her people. Dirhennia, the older sister of Crescenta, *also* took the throne but it was rescinded by her mom Festivia for being "unfit for the throne" due to her laziness and lack of care for the magic wand. Sure, Crescenta took over and all was fine, but in her brief time ruling, she didn't lead her people or care about them literally at ALL. They act like Eclipsa is the first queen to ever deny her duties, you know?

I say she wasn't a fish out of water due to Mewnie NOT changing enough for her to be one. She basically came back when someone was trying to do what she couldn't fathom how to do. And how she does it is still pretty well.....one sided. But honestly: It does fit. You can be wise and whimsical if YOU are not the one making descissions and having the responsibility. Once you are the one in charge, your view changes and you might not have as before the bigger picture actually in sight.

Yeah ngl in hindsight that was... eh... I have no issues with characters being flawed. Quite the opposite, in fact. I love me some characters with some juicy flaws. The issues start when the writers don’t acknowledge those flaws as- well- FLAWS. We saw it with Sabrina Spellman in CAOS, we saw it with Adrien in MLB and then we saw it in Eclipsa and Star in SVTFOE.
