Yes. Finally. Someone said it. If I'm honest, I never thought Star truly deserved all the blame, and in that general situation...save for Marco and Meteora, she was actually the least culpable. It was Moon that caused the whole thing to happen, and it was technically Eclipsa's duty to stop it, but she abdicated. I don't think it's fair to say it was "a bad day" for Star at all, as the stakes were definitely beyond her. She did the right thing calling out Glossaryk and everyone. And Glossaryk pretty much goaded her to that decision, a heavy decision that while obviously unnecessary, was probably the only thing a young person in need of a quick fix could do...but he could've offered another solution. What's really bad and unforgivable is how they implicated a baby. Star and the Queens weren't powerful enough, but "dipped down baby" was. Star still made the decision and has to own it,, even though it arguably wasn;t truly hers to make. Moon has to own going along with it because she started the whole and wanted her pwushus dwawtuh wuv back. Eclipsa has to own her apathy. But Meteora was just a baby, and Glossaryk deliberately trained her to that point.

It’s just wild that the show treats killing magic like a good thing. Because Star is the hero, the show tries to play it up like it was primarily Star’s Star’s decision to kill magic because it was supposed to be apart of her character development involving her becoming more mature and responsible. Ironically, if you actually look what happens, it’s the exact opposite: Star getting rid of magic is, like you say, actually a result of a combination of other people, and not actually her responsibility.

Honestly, considering Glossaryck acts like Star is right in assuming that her tapestry means she'll never see Marco again and that obviously ended up not being the case, I have to wonder if that was her actual tapestry to begin with? I mean, with how powerful Glossaryck is, I don't doubt that he could show Star a fake tapestry that would convince her to destroy magic. For all we know, Star's actual tapestry showed her perfecting the spell with no name and defeating the Solarians or something. But Glossaryck convinced her she was destined to destroy magic and had no other choice, for no obvious reason. But if I had to guess, knowing him, he basically just did it because he was tired of his job and this was the only way he could actually "quit", so he took it and who cares about the collateral damage?

@@DarkMasterofCupcakes If it wasn't her tapestry, then the rip in Star's tapestry from Into the Wand wouldn't have been shown as a continuity nod and would've just been replaced with a blank part of the tapestry.

@@birdcar7808 oh , now i see what they were trying to do , Star was so reliant on magic , so having her destroy it at the end would kinda tie up her character arc , they failed in multiple aspects of that , but i think the biggest one was *how* they made her come to the conclusion of destroying it. They make her have a temper tantrum and say “I hate magic!” over and over again in a whiny voice and then tell glossyrck that she’s gonna destroy magic , and after he tells her that he’ll die , cause he’s made of magic , she only cares that Marco won’t be with her. And even after Marco tells Star that Hekapoo will die cause she’s made of magic , Star still doesn’t care. She knows everyone made of magic will die , but she only cared about the fsct that she wont be able to see her boyfriend that she JUST STARTED DATING , so instead of making her responsible and smart , they make her selfish and stupid. Way to go writers. And another big aspect of how they failed is that they don’t really make her actually come to the conclusion that magic *needs* to be destroyed. It wasn’t hinted in episodes way before season 4 , it was only that 5 minute tantrum that happened to her that made her think “magic , the thing that had been around since the beginning of the universe , needs to be destroyed!!😡😡😡”. -_-

My brain just went "Why did no one question why he was just screaming Globgor?" Especially the ones who remember who the hell Globgor is, they should've especially been wondering why he was yelling this name! I have this sneaking feeling that if they had actually figured out what Glossaryck was saying, he would've dropped the act and explained. But since everyone thought Glossaryck was just fucking brain dead, they just thought it was nonsense until the act finally got too difficult to maintain (When Globgor actually got brought up, and he was so prevalent that it was too hard to just ignore now) that now the act finally dropped. They should've recognized that GLOSSARYCK DOESN'T DO COINCIDENCES!

If Glossaryck trully existed since the beggining of time I could totally buy that he grew bored with his existence but the only way to trully end his existence is if he took down all the magic with him but since he cant do this on his own he pretty much manipulated an entire bloodline to do it for him. Naturally this would never happen since disney wouldnt allow the final villain of one of their shows be suicidal, but it's still interesting to think about it like that

@@eddog6666 I feel like this barely relates to my original comment, but I think I remember another reviewer mentioning that the creative team admitted they knew way ahead of time that there were only going to be four seasons. Which means that regardless of what time they wanted, they knew their limits and didn't make the best creative decisions with the resources they had. I feel like Star Vs. was a broken train that started strong, cruised down the tracks on its own momentum after things started breaking, and then completely broke down and fell apart at the end. Like the creators had all of these ideas and no longer knew how to keep it all together, or what to prioritize with the time they were given.

I actually quite liked garnet as a future seeing character because they made it seem like it was more loose predictions, much like Bruno where instead of seeing a clear path of the future, it was like she predicted multiple outcomes and had to interpret the most likely scenerio or be prepared for several different outcomes. They even touch on this in the episode where garnet is completely confused with herself because she didn't consider a future where Steven turned himself in, showing that even if she could "predict" the future it wasn't as clear cut as it seemed.

I don't understand why including the devil is censorship worthy when we have movies like hunchback, princess and the frog, etc, from Disney that already use a devil like character as a great evil behind the villains. I would definitely say yes he is as he was the one who gave mewmans magic to begin with and guided them, which lead to them taking over the entire island without any care towards the islands original population. Also the magic high commission, if I remember rightly, are all creations of glossaryck or he at least had a very high standing among them which meant he does have influence over them and their decisions. He allowed them to further the mewmans discrimination towards monsters until it became such a huge grudge between species so as to imprison eclipsa allowing them to replace meteora with festivia. An example of how he went with this would be how he sealed off her side of the book which he knows acts as her diary while also not telling any future princesses the truth. glossaryck also speaks in incredibly stupid cryptic ways to just annoy people such as when he just said globgor over and over and over again while acting like an wild animal when could have literally just said eclipsa was attempting to revive globgor but no he decides to be an ass and make people think he has brain damage. Also he was the one who directed star to destroy magic it was him who gave her the idea and supported her decision to commit a multidimensional genocide because of something they could have easily handled without it. And the biggest point against him in my opinion was that he knew everything the past the present the future he knew all this shit was gonna happen because he is omniscient or at least clairvoyant. He could have stopped all this crap any time he wanted but simply didn't; he knew that the mewmans were going to hurt all the islands natives, he knew there was going to be a war, he knew eclipsa would suffer for crimes she never committed and for being willing to marry a monster, he knew toffee was going to kill moons mother and was going to cause trouble again, he knew meteora was still alive and was going to attempt killing everyone, he knew what the MHC, moon and mina was planning and finally he knew that star was going to commit a genocide and screw over two completely different worlds by mish mashing them together and he did nothing. Even if you can say he wasn't a villain he is absolutely the most responsible for everything that has occurred in the story.

Glossyrk definitely changed. Though the only thing I can think of for his motives would be extremely dark and kind of nihilistic. He manipulated the destruction of magic because he has grown disappointed in the magical world he had a hand in creating. He started as a person with pure motives and gave the mewmens magic to create a new society and made the MHC to keep the functions of the universe going. The only part I'm a little iffier on is the being bound to the book. I believe he started as a genuine mentor but when he decided he had done enough the Mewmen Queens decided to bind him and that is why he also hates Ronaldo so much they share the same flaw of being susceptible to magic and he hates the reminded. He's always trying to escape his connection to the book but inevitably fails. Until all magic is destroyed.
@AlashiaTuol
@AlashiaTuol 2 жыл бұрын
But if he was disappointed in the magical society he created, why did he create it? He's non-linear; we see him choosing to create and empower the Butterfly monarchs with magic while babysitting Meteora, meaning he full well knew all of the consequences of this action before he made it. He knew everything that led up to the show's current circumstances, and _then_ chose to incite it all by making the wand and giving it to the first Mewmans. It's like he got a preview of what the world would be like if he did this thing, and then he decided after seeing all the death and destruction that he would absolutely do that thing. He could have just... not, and brought about an entirely different timeline without any of the stuff he ultimately encouraged Star to destroy anyways. Without ever having to put a teenager into a position where she thinks genocide is a good solution to clean up the mess, or carelessly allow his own children to die for that goal to be accomplished.

Glossaryck was always indifferent and neutral about everything, even when it came to his own well-being. Well, maybe not entirely, as he did aid Star even when he was supposed to be serving Ludo and Toffee, but then again, you could argue that he was on Star's side even when they had the book. I think an interesting concept would be Glossaryck needing Star to do a total restart on magic and make her the new personification of magic. This could even cause conflict because Star doesn't want to give up her life to be trapped in an immortal life without her friends. Also, I know this isn't brought up a lot by how are there American settlers in the medieval ages? If Eclipsa is 27th(?) Queen of Mewni and she lived 300 years ago when America was having the revolutionary war meaning the timeline just doesn't make sense.

Glossarick is very strange to me; I think at this point I'm going to say that I think he is the actual physical representation of all magic in one sentient being (like if all of the magic in SVTFoE we're to have a unified mind and will and it were put into one body to represent it all). He's omnipotent and clearly either understands the universe so we'll that he can manipulate everyone over such a long a time to force what he wants into fruition, or -more likely- just sees the future. I think maybe he just felt ultimately like he didn't fit in with the universe at large (or maybe everything in existence became mundane and boring to deal with) and wanted to completely die off for good (ie. All magic in the universe had to be destroyed so he could never come back, or continue existing in an abstract way like when star found him with a boiling pot right before she revived the magic after Toffee rotted it first), but maybe couldn't achieve that on his own because of his very existence as magic itself? Idk he was very moody and 'above it', all the time throughout the show and clearly was either incapable or just never wanted to partake in building genuine relationships (I mean he pretty much laid out his views of friendship after Star lost his book- so I would say he feels that same for all interactions outside himself as well). All in all, he seemed pretty disinterested in alot of things overall and just seemed like he had other things he would rather do than... Be around, so it just kinda fits for me that he wanted to stop existing.

Glossaryck was an all-knowing being that was forced to exist by the universe. We don't know how long he existed before the butterflies came about. He just wanted to die and knew the only way to do that was to destroy the magic. Something he couldn't do himself. This would have been way way too dark for Disney to explain to kids so they just left it out. Living forever is a curse, not a blessing. Everything loses meaning when you live forever.

I think Glossaryck tried to find the meaning of his existence: magic. He doesn't really care about taking sides, he just wants purpose. The show repeatedly makes the point that magic doesn't really make anything better, it only makers a mess that by the end of the day didn't really make a difference, except for a mess to clean up. He gave the first settlers of Mewni magic, and generations later the people are still peasants growing corn for survival and in war with everyone around themselves. Compare this to the human realm with no magic, I think it really makes it apparent magic made everything worse for everyone. The grand conclusion to Glossarycks experiment was that magic has no purpose.

honestly this whole show was written like garbage after season three's premier. It definitely doesn't deserve a reboot. i always thought gloss was created by the first queen or was created by skywind but my personal thoughts are along the lines he's written how the book is but because each he's already having to deal with each queen being to vastly different then the last. go figure he's going to have his favorites which just for instance eclipsa and her mother and the back lash in seen because each queen seems to grow and thats dangerous because look at star gloss sees every single spell that might be the good and the bad and you know the queens rarely listened to him my point is i think the magic in star is so so ancient and whatever created it good or evil bad or good. he sees everything past present and future look at the realm of magic its never explained what the fuck it is or who created it for all we know gloss could predate the queens no queen is the same yeah you might get similarities but the vibes the magic realm gave me was ancient like death in supernatural. something so old it doesn't remember how it came into existence just that it did. and gloss could have been the first creature born out of the magic cause you never really see him use his full power he just does whatever whenever like a eldritch being and thats scary. these are my ramblings of the day no idea if they make sense or not but oh well.

And this is why I would rather headcanon this: after the credits sequence, it would have gone the Devilman route with Marco's wounds having blown out of his body, Star (still having one last piece of magic) screaming for Marco and destroying the universe & all conflicts (ala Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon style) and Glossaryck, who did not die when magic was destroyed, is confronted by higher beings other than himself (off screen but voices heard) with Glossaryck punished to relive the timeline over and over again for all eternity with a flash showing the last scene of Star's very first scene play out over again, indicating it's going to happen all over again. At least that ending would've made a lot more sense to me. So between the actual ending and the ending I'd headcanon, I'd rather take the Devilman type ending if I accept the canon ending than just the plain canon ending. But I digress, it's not just Star that was to blame, but everyone else as well as Glossaryck. I mean I get the narrative was trying to insert one "Toffee was right" bit, but most of it got ignored for the "whispering spell" ending. But anyhow, this ending was such a mess. It's no wonder there was a lot of hate going to both Eden and Daron at the time. Just saying, though.

Having only seen the title, just wanted to throw this in. As far as I can tell, Glossaryck never had enough in the series to get a bead on him. The "enigmatic mentor" trait is strongest in the first two seasons. But even there, it's mostly done for a simple lesson of Magic, not actually getting Star to improve overall as a person. Marco pegs it best I think when he openly wonders why he should be upset when Glossaryck gets kidnapped by Ludo. All he really did was occasionally give some instruction, and alternately demand food/be too lazy to help. You can possibly make a case in the Battle for Mewni for it being his overall plan. Then of course, he spends Season 3 running around like a dog, with maybe one or two hints to him helping them before revealing that apparently it was all an act. And as far as I can recall, his screentime hits its nadir in season 4, with the only foreshadowing to the finale being one throwaway line at the beginning about how "maybe Toffee was right." His only other real notable appearance being when he teaches Meteora to dip down. All that to say, there's not enough of him to push him in a definitive character direction, and what we do get is confused or not helpful. Enigmatic but benevolent mentor? He's too selfish, rude, and lazy overall to convince me of that. Suicidal god who is enacting a master plan to kill himself? Again, not enough character aside from being strangely okay with his death. Selfish and uncaring teacher whose bound to a job that has long since become rote and does the bare minimum to teach his students while passing it off as "my methods change by person?" This potentially feels like the best approximation of what his character is, but it's not without flaw. All that said, I had an idea for how the series/a fanfic could've been interesting. Heck, if Disney ever remade the show, this could be interesting. The show starts like normal, but things seem off. Certain characters aren't acting quite as they should and sometimes Star and Marco get flashes of scenes from later seasons. The reveal ultimately being that the universe was destroyed and reset after Star and co. destroyed the Magic at the end of Season 4, but that Glossaryck and the Commission survived. Indeed, they thrived. Glossaryck is revealed as a mad god, who, in a bid to eventually gain the power to defeat his own creator (a vaguely alluded to benevolent higher God), found a way to leach all the power of Magic to himself and his 'children' (the Commission). Therefore, they run the universe with the attitude of it being an experiment, until they ultimately drive or trick someone of Magical Talen into 'destroying' magic which Glossaryck has mad so it funnels all the power of the Magical Realm into himself, increasing his power each time. The reason they hate monsters so much is that there was a prophecy that "Monsters/a monster, would be the undoing of them and their false-reign." And this is why they continuously meddle in the affairs of Mewni to ensure that Monsters are kept as powerless and downtrodden as possible. Another reveal of this universe would be a spin on the "Moon and Toffee used to be friends/lovers." They were in this universe, but the Commission found out and forcibly brainwashed them both to 'get them back on script.' However, Toffee has managed to break out of the brainwashing and seeks out Star for help. The series eventually turning into the heroes vs the Magical High Commission (with potentially a few of the Commission like Lekhmet or Hekapoo becoming more and more uncomfortable and torn between their desire for power and the morals and friendships they've managed to develop). Just an idea I thought was interesting. Hope you enjoyed reading it!

I also believe that Star wouldn't have done the deed if it wasn't for Glossaryck making it seem like it was her fate. The problem with the idea of destroying magic (besides the genocide implications) is that the show completely treats it in a one sided manner, when in reality it isn't. While Magic was used to power up the Solarian Warriors (as well as giving them the ability to injure and threaten the Monster of Mewni), it also served as a solution to some parts of, if not, the entire situation. Eclipsa literally could've killed the Solarian Warriors if she used the spell with no name, and magic itself was stated to be a source of healing for injured monsters like Globgor. It didn't seem like Star truly felt like magic was actually the problem; it honestly seems like she randomly thought about the idea because she wasn't really thinking straight at that time. And you can't blame her considering the day she's had. She only believed that her idea was confirmed to be true since Glossaryck made it seem like it was her destiny the whole time.

Clearsight from wings of fire is perhaps the best version of a future seeing character. I don’t want to spoil anything but she’s fantastic Also as someone who only moderately kept up with Star Vs…I totally thought Glossaryk was meant to be a twist villain

Destroying the magic only killed the high magical commission, beings like floating pony heads seems to use an another source of magic since they are seen happy and well after the show's end Destroying the magic did have bad ramifications like closing worlds travel but it didn't cause a genocide

The problem is we don't know the true scale of the magical world, so, uh, whether a magical genocide happened is up in the air. (Not to mention any other ramifications from the merge)

He is my least favorite character in the whole show. I groaned more than Marco when ever he showed up. His design is hideous, he is extremely annoying, he is always aloof, and always has riddles or something. To me he comes off as unhelpful. It's so cathartic that he died twice.

I enjoy Mantis for future seeing she literally sees all futures in all marvel multiverses. so she always confuses stuff and it explains why she has so many random skills cuz a multiverse version of herself learned it so she has the experience. she only remembers a few things when that thing is happening or a split second before or after. atleast thats how it was treated in the game she could be alot less fun and more annoying and plot device in the comics. i know nothing about this show but your videos and few on the bs for why people were freaking out about it and the voltron stuff so im just commenting on what i can.

I could careless about all this, the only thing that actually bothered me was how Eclipsa made her choice and how after her downfall everyone else wasn’t actually royalty💔😭 Over all tho I love all the characters the writers are the ones at fault good day.

I've always believed he was the true villain. He just tosses a wand to someone and tells them they can do magic with it. Over time he sees that this grand experiment has been a failure but he can't or won't end it. Instead he decides to manipulate Star into doing his dirty work for him. All it takes is creating a situation where she thinks she's helped set Mewni on a better course with Mewman's and monsters being able to live in harmony. And truthfully she had done that. But her mom's bitterness towards the monsters and anger at Eclipsa for kicking people out of their homes, leaving an angry despondent teen with tremendous powers willing to do anything to stop Mina from killing the monsters.

Basically the whole show is Glossarycks plan out dying run putting things in place to create a conflict so big that a naive magic wilder decides that magic is the problem and gets rid of it and in turn truly ends him. So this entire show is secretly all about him and everything else in the universe is just an extra even if he liked them jajaja

I'm most of the way through, and I have my own take on this. Now, I'm not saying Glossaryck isn't terrible; he absolutely is. However, I feel like there is a reason for it. You went into this with the idea that Glossy over there can see the future, but what if he knew the events, and also knew they couldn't be altered? Or worse, destroying magic was the best of many terrible outcomes? What if Glossaryck is more like Dr. Manhattan, in that he experiences all moments at once, but dialed down because Star vs. is technically a kids show. Where Dr. Manhattan grew disillusioned with people, as he grew to understand that time had no meaning, what if Glossaryck was similar. He still had his "favorites" but people were... finite to him. Worse, they were basically meaningless. Or, lets consider another option. As a comparison, consider Sans from Undertale. He was aware of the Resets, and knew that, no matter what he did, he was just a passenger along for this terrible ride, over and over again. His actions meant nothing, because they would all be washed away. What if Glossaryck saw the weave of time, but couldn't change it? Locked in a path he already knew, forced to endure every terrible outcome and cursed decision, from start to finish. From the good or bad, sometimes moments like that can kick you hard, even if you know they're coming. And that's why I think Glossy is both so emotionally distant and violently emotional. He is beyond our understanding to a point. His motives are as alien as his powers and psyche, and I wonder if he even truly understands concepts like morality, at the end of the day.

Yep, agree. I think that Gloraryk wanted to off himself and realised that only way to do it was to destroy all magic, as otherwise it will bring him back. So he whant for "extended suicide" option by manipulating Star. At least that was the only way I could make sense of that mess.
