HGA also no with others grade more harsh than PSA. Idk if any will catch up to PSA values, I would personally like to see it. I think a grail card has to be either a very rare card that is hard to find and obtain or a card that is priced beyond your ability to purchase it at the time. The hunt and the struggle to obtain that card gives the grail term meaning. I think I would trust PSA, SGC, BGS, CSG, and HGA to be able to authenticate any card, so if the card is a 1/1, you should be be able to price it wherever you want as you have the only one in existence. With that said, I would have most likely used PSA to grade it for authenticity, protection for the card, and the most highly recognized grading company for a card with that price point. Rookie cards are going to retain the most value for a card, but I think second and third year cards with a story to them are overlooked and one I would prefer to keep in my PC.
@SpitballinCards Жыл бұрын

I always thought a grail card was subjective based on the collector. For years, mine was the Vince Carter Sgt. Carter mem/auto from 2000 Fleer Force, I eventually bought it for $200 last year. That card was the product hit, it was advertised on the box and in Beckett, and I ripped two boxes around 2002 looking for it.. Fleer Force was an awesome product but I never hit it. Ive been collecting ever since, but never had the disposable income to pony up to get the card until last year, and i got it! I still think of it as a grail, but see y'all's point. But, if a low income card collector is looking at a grail, their viewpoint is gonna be way different than a collector who goes to the National and has all the connections.
@SpitballinCards Жыл бұрын
That is an awesome story. This is Scott responding, and I had a few specific cards that were always on the mid 2000s Beckett magazine covers and backs that I drooled over and could never afford. Nowadays, I could probably buy them for a few hundred dollars. You may have convinced me to look into it!

Personal grails are relative based on budget and interests. I wanted a nice Trout auto forever, and I finally bought a nice gold /25 Topps 87 design auto this year. It was about $500. With the emergence of online card shopping in the early 2000’s, grading was a necessity. Talk about corruption - you ever try to buy a raw card online? How many sellers are honest about condition?? Third party grading removed a lot of shadiness from the hobby, including counterfeiting! Now is it perfect? No it’s not. It’s had and still has issues that need work but it’s always improving.
