1960s Halloween'er here. My favorite was the homemade popcorn balls, followed by the homemade caramel apples. Yep, people would say, come on in -- and then we would have to do a trick to get our treat. We did 2 nights. Halloween night was the local neighborhood. The night before, parents would drop kids off in some faraway neighborhood across town, and we'd have to get home on our own, lol. It took hours -- from dusk to about 9pm. One of the biggest disappointments of my adult life is that no parents let their kids eat homemade popcorn balls or caramel apples that they get from some stranger's house (which would have been my house). Happy Halloween!

Great times for Kids and Halloween. The 50s into the 60s was the best time to be a kid on Halloween. We would literally go miles without a worry from our parents collecting tons of candy, neighborhood parents looking out for us as if we were their own and the decorations were amazing. So glad I grew up during this time.

TV was black and white and radio was mono. Air-conditioning was a luxury, cars had skinny tires that went flat all the time, if you got a girl pregnant you had to marry her.

I like Smarties….I like the way they dissolve in comparison to similar candies.

I loved sweet tarts as a kid. Also the candy apples some of our neighbors made. (We weren't worried about them trying to murder us). Any kind of chocolate bar was greatly appreciated (they didn't have the mini ones then, so they were all full-sized) and some people gave out cans of Coke or Pepsi. In Canada, Smarties are a bigger version of M&M's, so we love those.

Smarties are far superior to M&Ms :)

I was not from the 50's but some of what you showed did spill over into the 1970's I wore some of those same plastic masks. I had a Morticia one. In the late 60's early 70's Long Beach, in an area of old white folks, one was invited into their house for Halloween goodies. I had not been aware until recently when my mom told me my brother got to enjoy that kind of Halloween. My bro and I would take our pillowcases and almost filled it up completely with candy. We would get money and candied apples, too. Back then the fear was to check your candy just in case it was acid laced.

I love the SweetTarts. I remember in the 70s going to work and buying a Mountain Dew and a 100,000 bar, almost everyday,to get my day started. I don't know when they changed the name to 100 Grand bar. Awesome video, now I can show my kids what the costumes looked like when I was a kid, in the 60s and early 70s. 🎃👹👍

I never minded the plastic masks when I was a kid, although my dad had some latex ones which I loved but he would not let me wear them. I had a devil costume when I was 4 that I loved. We actually had the jack-o-lantern you show at 0:22, used to hang it on the door to the apartment. This would have been early 70's.
