What Blackwell did to Peter and Bunny is unfair. He should have credited them for their contributions, and allowed them to reap the reward for their hard work

This is a bit harsh!! A lot of the early Wailers songs with Chris Blackwell and Island Records,( namely Catch A Fire and Burnin) had already been previously recorded and released by multiple Jamaican producers including Lee Perry and Leslie Kong! Marley's songs were already credited to him , prior to Blackwell linking up with the Wailers! Blackwell merely invested in polishing their act for an audience outside Jamaica, which made a lot of sense! You must remember also that Bob Marley's songwriting prowess had already been recognised by American singer Johnny Nash , way before Blackwell came on the scene, who recorded a good number of Marley songs for his elpees. Additionally, both Tosh and Bunny Wailer , re-recorded their self penned songs during the Wailers years, subsequently on their own solo albums . They just couldn't match the broader appeal that Bob Marley had! So in truth Marley or Blackwell can't be blamed in any way as far music crediting goes! Bob Marley was an astute musical pupil who learnt a great deal naturally from the people all around him! And it is entirely to his credit that his biggest and most successful songs came AFTER the original wailers split up! Chris Blackwell merely went ( i suppose instinctively) with the best and the most consistent and hardworking of the original Wailers...Bob Marley... The rest is history!!! 👊🏾🇳🇬👊🏾🇳🇬!!

I would really like this area to be researched. I know from experience that because of the unjust social structures and limited business training received by most black men up to my generation, claims of unfair treatment have been made because our people were not privy to acceptable music business practices... not all (though perhaps most) of our artistes were subjected to skulduggery. Some persons, I suspect, called cheating what was really ignorance on their part (including the inability or unwillingness to read carefully). It is important for us to determine the whole truth... and face our own shortcomings with a view to understanding and re-preparing our approach to development... instead of always depending on other people to do it for us!

What are you liking, he makes no sense! He's bigging up an unscrupulous man who enticed Bob to betray his brethrens for fame and robbed them of the due. Tosh and Bunny family shouldbe getting royalty right now. @reggaegistxtra_ng

Reggae done more for Blackwell than he did for reggae. One of the first culture vultures. His family were plantation owners, so it's obvious him and his family are vampire's.

So are you saying Bob was not as wise to rely on Chris to reach the height he reached and neither was Jimmy or Toots either nor Sly & Robbie, Grace Jones etc? Hmmm! What a stretch

This is why Peter Tosh called Chris Blackwell, Chris Whitewell. Chris said that his involvement in music was about uplifting the black artists, but if so, then surely that should have extended to equal financial uplifment. I don't believe that happened ,so what was Chris talking about? Uplifting their profile and opportunity to make and establish hit records that the white well got full up (profitted) from. What do you think?

Blackwell did Peter wrong. Bunny too. Blackwell changed the name of the band to Bob Marley and the Wailers. He helped popularize Bob but yes he was also a culture vulture.

Well a lot of producers didn't deal with artist good but I definitely know Mr Dodd isn't one because I've watched everyone from Johnny Osbourne to Alton Ellis even Dennis Brown ran to Mr Dodd for help and he would help also the copyright law didn't exist in Jamaica until 1990s whom Mr Dodd and Pj Patterson had to fight for Chris Blackwell is the worst because people like Max Romeo and Junior murvin is still fighting for their publishings up to this day Blackwell sold the whole catalog to universal and still no one was being paid so this clearly shows he was trying to use peter and Bunny to benefit Bob he even had the band members doing promo concerts which is wrong Bob is suppose to do promo the musicians are suppose to be paid now I really see why family man felt robbed and mistreated

Chris whiteworst held down Peter and Bunny and pushed up Bob.. He refused to release Peter's Album and renamed the group Bob Marley and the, Wailers from The Wailers
@thenowchurch6419
@thenowchurch6419 Ай бұрын
i am no fan of Mr. Whiteworst but you are just repeating false information about the band name change. It was Lee Perry who changed the name to Bob Marley and the Wailers. That was just before the group met Chris. It was Perry who pushed up Bob over Peter and Bunny.

Chris Blackwell promoted Bob Marley at the expense of Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer so they left. That wasn't Bob's fault but it did open the way for Bob's international rise. Chris Blackwell didn't do Peter and Bunny right though.

Chris Blackwell may have respected Rastafari but he saw Reggae as a form of Rock. Bob didn't. Bob saw Reggae as revolutionary music for Africans and other oppressed people. They had different visions of what Reggae was. Chris wanted to sell Bob to white audiences. Bob wanted to reach Black audiences.
Who was better, Peter Tosh or Bob Marley?
