The concept of breaking into a house only to find something disturbing in the basement is actually a great concept but it's done so poorly in this series that the potential has never been fully realised. I feel like if there was a title that perhaps had a more direct narrative reason for breaking into the house other than "This guys is strange, let me sneak inside his property." and if they were to make some serious gameplay changes there could be a great game hidden in there. For example what if you were a burglar who snuck into a house to steal stuff only to find that underneath the house was a bunch of jigsaw style murder rooms? That could be a great start to a horror game.

Wasn’t there a version of the game where the house the neighbor was in was actually the house the protagonist was moving into but after he was finished moving in the neighbour knocked them out tossing them into the house across the street and then when the protagonist wakes up the house has been changed

I think the problem was peoples choice of words of "better" and "good" as they can be strong words and evidentially raised expectations when revisiting them. I think the word I'd use for the older versions is "tolerable" as they are not any better but don't have as much bullcrap as the final release and don't waste much of your time.

1:39:43 Actually, Phil, the show is 100% SAFE to watch on stream. Hell, Th3Badd3st and Pastra watched the ENTIRE first season on stream, and they thought the show was suprisingly good. The 1st season has six pretty solid episodes (the 6th one being my favorite), and the 2nd season is being worked on right now. So you CAN watch it on stream... if you want to.

Indeed, this wasn't a good faith attempt to try the alphas and see what people liked about them. Alpha 1 was imo the best, and while unpolished, it at least made decent use of the concept and its potential. But if you're jaded by the later versions and going into it looking for things to make fun of, of course you won't like it.

Instead, he kept trying to catch the neighbor's attention to trap him inside the player's house and break his AI. When the whole point of the alphas were about SNEAKING around the neighbor's house, grabbing items to unlock the basement, without being seen by the neighbor. Like, it's supposed to be a STEALTH game! So play it like one!!

btw, the neighbor still has AI even in act 3 but the thing is, tiny builds never tried to make the neighbor have ways of actually being able to come to you when you are at the fifth floor or something so yeah tiny builds kinda rushed the final product, also the ai is actually dead in the full game since tiny builds never optimized it compared to alpha 2 and alpha 1.

I remember a long time ago I said that Illegal Game: Subway Bus and Bendy and the Ink Machine at least had something going for it, even if it was a buggy mess of a game. Subway Bus at least had a few good moments and Bendy was stylish, you can tell the devs tried their best with them. I didn't feel any passion put into Hello Neighbor, but the alphas did show promise before the developers decided to throw it all away. HN's art style is actually solid, that's the only good thing I can say about it.

Building on Phil's idea for Resident Neighbor: Instead of having "safe rooms" in the mansion itself, have YOUR house be the safe room, the place where you save and store your items and the Neighbor can't get you, that would fit SO much better than having there be rooms of the Neighbor's house that the Neighbor can't enter. Since you don't get sent back to your house if you're caught in this hypothetical version of the game, have your house function as the ONLY safe space where you can save, so it still serves a purpose. Remember, the whole point of this game's setup is that the Neighbor is, well, your NEIGHBOR, you live across the street from him; if you want to make this work as a game instead of just making a whole new game, work with that.

The house wasn't a monstrosity and the artstyle was actually pretty good. If they just kept going with what they had and made improvements to everything (especially the ai), it could have been good. TLDR, Matpat didn't enjoy dissecting this frame by frame.

It’s primarily because the Alphas, while themselves weren’t that good, had intrigue and promise. The acknowledgement that these were Alpha stages and that the game would only get more advanced and better was enough to hold a lot of people’s interest, speaking from experience. Buuuuuuut then Alpha 3 happened and the rest is history, unfortunately Heck, it held my interest so much so that I effectively Mandela Effected myself into believing the Alphas were way better than they actually were, apparently

If I remember correctly, Beta 1 had so many glitches that the developers had to release another version (Beta 2) just 2 days after Beta 1 because of how many bugs were present. Beta 1 & Beta 2 were also extremely similar to Alpha 4 when it came to the gameplay route.

the alpha 4 build is the WORST build ever, i was able to bug it so bad it will NOT open anymore without crashing instantly. & the bendy mod version isnt its own thing, its a very slightly edited version of a pre order exclusive build called "beta 3" which can be accessed through the beta options on the base game. beta 2 is also a thing, not much different just more unfinished, beta 1 is lost media. and there was a alpha 1.5 that was never released, some of the assets for it are still in alpha 2.
