A note about that kraken boss and the normal versions in general: The top and bottom parts count as separate kills, but it will only actually "die" if you kill the bottom part. If you only take out the top and then move out of it's area, the top will respawn and you can kill it again. Combine this with rushing the first wind crystal and you have a decent early game leveling area.

Honestly I feel like they made a ton of improvements for this one, but Kings Field 2 (3) definitely feels at the start at least a bit less tight. Also that crystal guy... my god he is just DESPERATE for you to buy arrows with crystal, even though its a terrible idea. Almost every time you talk to him he'll mention how awesome arrows are. Oh ye and in case it isn't mentioned later on, if you stare at a golden tree a dragon fruit slowly grows on it then drops to the ground, and this will happen again after a while, but it seems to be quite a while. Also, theres a knights sword in the skeleton waterfall cave, its just quite hard to see under the water, but its a great early game weapon.

Kings field 2 was the first game I played where I refused to accept the ending I got was the only ending. I got the bad ending and it pissed me off so much that I kept playing knowing there had to be another ending somewhere. I was so satisfied when I found the real final boss and got the good ending. Yes I know that the Kings field 2 I'm talking about is actually king's field three so it's not the one he's talking about.

My issue with the king's field games is that they feel older than they are. They feel closer to a game from the eighties than the nineties. Which is weird considering being a 3D graphics game puts a limit to how old it can be

This focus on exploration does put Elden Rings Erdtree into perspective. The items you needed to collect to become more powerful were spread around encouraging you to explore. Or, if you were braindead souls player encourage you to keep trying the bosses and then ragequit become the game was too difficult.
