1 thing I loved about this game, is that it all takes place during one battle. Most games have you jump from battle to battle, but this really puts emphasis on the struggles of this single battle, and I love it for that.

I think it's important to explain what a game released to and why people thought the way that they did. Downgrading is still a highly talked about issue but it was really one of the biggest aspects in terms of researching this games development and it was cool to go back and look at how we have changed today. It truly surprises me how much Guerrilla Games were able to push the PS3 to achieve this game's visuals. Everybody says this but they truly made magic with that console. I owned and played this on launch year and there really wasn't a game that looked better that year, at least on consoles. If Sony re-released KZ2 and KZ3 for the PS5 as 4K ports with 60fps, these games would still hold up visually in most cases. And they should. I haven't had a working PS3 for many years and I'd love to revisit these games and go through the campaign and play the intense multiplayer with active lobbies. Great vid btw

100% what Guerrilla managed to do visually with the Killzone series from Killzone 2 onwards was almost like witchcraft. I'd love to see the series make it's way over to the new generation of consoles if only to let the new playstation adopters know what made this series so great because a lot of people have only played Shadowfall. I was in a clan. The whole system for ranking and setting up matches vs other clans was in game. Coolest thing ever and have never seen anything like it again.

I was a big Halo fan back then, but man did I enjoy Killzone 2. I miss both Killzone and Resistance today. I'm pretty burned out by AAA games and even indie FPS games aren't trying to recapture the magic of Killzone 2.

Killzone 2 was certainly one of my favorite shooters growing up. Halo was a game I would play with friends, whereas Killzone 2 was a game I would play by myself, and I absolutely loved it

I'm in the same boat, Halo was a game I could play both single and multiplayer with mates where as Killzone 2 was more of a game for me. Incredible game though!

Killzone was dubbed "the Halo killer" by the press, not by the studio itself. It's "downgrade" was also not that big of a deal except to graphic whores. The game still looked great. I enjoyed both Killzone 2 and Halo, both were very different in their gameplay and style. However I preferred Killzone's multiplayer, it felt more tactical with its class-based system. I also found the Helghast more interesting as an enemy than the Covenant.

You have strange, strange tastes, my friend. The space nazis were a good look. Not more "interesting" by any means, as the lore for the alien races of the Covenant goes far, far deeper than anything KZ delves into , but the designs are stellar, even if their inspirations are obvious. As for multiplayer, I'd be hard pressed to find anyone that preferred Killzone's MP to Halo. Weirdly enough, the only ones that preferred Killzone Multiplayer over Halo were the ones that were only stuck with the playstation, and never had a 360 for themselves lol. Given your Last of Us PFP, I'd assume you'd fall under that category?

Killzone 2 & 3 where great but there was always one problem that held me back. The controls. Playstation was really late to adopt the default L2 & R2 for aim and shoot, In Killzone 3 its possible to reconfigure the controls but not in K2. So in K2 its R3 to aim and R1 to shoot. It always felt really clunky to me, and is one of the reasons I ended up putting Killzone 2 down shortly after I picked it up for the first time in years. It sounds super minor and nit-picky but. The lack of ability to change the control scheme meant I couldnt enjoy my time with this game, I always felt like I was fighting the outdated control scheme. I'm glad that it holds up well in other aspects though this was a favourite of mine as a kid. The graphics blew me away back then.

I have my gripes with KZ2, honestly really liked the cast of KZ1 for example and from a gameplay standpoint I really hate how they handled the inventory in comparison to KZ1 but overall it's a dam fun time. KZ3 and Mercenary are my favorites in the series though. Hope to see every entry covered.

I just miss the aspects of the first game that weren't implemented in this one; the loss of the three-weapon (two primary, one side arm) system, secondary fire modes for almost ALL weapons, and different player characters with unique traits.

I recently renewed my interest into Killzone after messing around with Helghast NPC’s in Garry’s Mod, and oh boy, Killzone 2 is such a blast, considering it’s a console FPS. I wish the second and third games had some kind of remaster and maybe even being brought to PC. RPCS3 is the closest thing so far for PC but it runs worse than the original game. The day I’ll be able to play it on PC with customizable controls at a generous frame rate will be a great one.

Best thing about the original was the amount of health enemies had was just enough that that single shotgun shell you could fire after emptying your magazine actually mattered. It was so fun slugging dudes after filling them full of bullets.

I agree with purdy much everything you've said about the franchise thus far except for the notion that anyone could have produced something capable of living up to the Killzone 1 hype. Nothing produced that early in a console generation's life cycle could deliver on the promise of revolutionary tech when a huge studio focus all its energy on the game let alone a project developed by a small outfit who's not only new to 3D shooters but is having to split their attention over several projects that they are developing at the same time.

Killzone 2 was originally being developed for the PS2 but Sony approached Guerrilla about making it for the PS3 so they moved on from the PS2

The multiplayer can still be semi-played with bots and system link (which is better than total abandonment). But man, Killzone 2's multiplayer was truly it's own. Killzone is kind of like a beloved pariah in FPS. It has that gritty war feeling, mixed in with a study on nationalism and propaganda. Neither the Helghast or ISA are truly bad or good. That one virtue of this series is one I wish was expanded on. But on another note, your videos are great. I've ashamedly binge watch them lol keep it up dude! Great content :)

They missed out on Coop , the weapons in game would have been cool to have different attachments. the weight controls was a big mistake or too complicated made the game feel odd played odd. control setup needs a revamp , vaulting is a plus if implemented. will say some of the best weapon designs .

The game has aged poorly. Most of our good memories were with our nostalgia goggles. The game had a horrible choppy frame rate, the weapon handling and aiming were terrible, not by developer choice lie Gueriila said, but rather because the PS3 could barely handle the game. Also, everything was the same ugly color. Only cool things were the Helghast armor and design. Everything else about the game was bad to mediocre.
