Leopard sharks (Triakis semifasciata) are generally not considered dangerous to humans. They are a species of shark that is relatively docile and non-aggressive. Leopard sharks are typically found in shallow coastal waters along the Pacific coast of North America, including California. Leopard sharks are not known to pose a significant threat to human safety. They are typically bottom-dwelling sharks that primarily feed on small fish, crustaceans, and other marine invertebrates. They have relatively small mouths and teeth designed for their feeding habits, which do not pose a danger to humans. In the rare instances when interactions occur between humans and leopard sharks, they are generally peaceful and non-threatening. Leopard sharks are known to be timid and tend to avoid human contact. They are not known to display aggressive behavior towards swimmers, divers, or surfers. However, it’s important to note that any wild animal should be treated with respect and caution. It is always advisable to exercise appropriate behavior and maintain a safe distance when encountering wildlife, including leopard sharks. It’s also worth mentioning that individual sharks’ behavior can vary, and unexpected situations can arise, so it’s wise to adhere to any local guidelines or warnings regarding shark encounters in the area you plan to visit.

I LOVE leopard sharks, especially those from California, where I'm from. Beautiful little animals, funny, and generally non-aggressive and gentle, as long as you don't mess with them. California leopard sharks are closely related to dogfish; and have tiny crushing teeth for eating molluscs. I'd love to see the Australian variety live and in person as well. Hopefully one of these days. 💞💞💞
