The logic behind Laios' dog impression lies with shapeshifters being common in his homeland by multiplying sheep and eating the real ones, so hunting/shepherd dogs protect the flock by intimidating the shapeshifter away which is what Laios did here. And of course he can do a great dog impression as child Falin mentioned way back in a previous episode.

Laios's imitation of a hunting dog was meant to trigger the fight or flight response in the shapeshifter, thus distracting them from upholding the illusions and revealing their location. It really hinged a lot on animal instincts overriding cunning hunting strategies, and it is such a perfect thing for Laios to attempt :D

21:12 lot of overseas ppl easily noticed she is cat girl in the her first appearance is so interesting to me, coz most of japanese are didn't noticed. ppl misunderstanding she's costume is ninja but actually its 黒子（kuroko). its traditional backstage person costume and originally shaped like cat ears. so most of jp viewers see her and just thought "oh there's kuroko girl".

Well, we did learn in episode 8 that Falin thought Laios did a great impression of a dog. Not only do the jokes come back but in this case they actually helped solve a problem the protagonists were facing. This story is so good.

In one of the extra comics by the author Ryoko Kui, she explains that the elves and dwarves, being two of the most powerful long-lived races, have spheres of cultural influence which influence beauty standards (just like the real world!). Half-foot cultures tend to look to the dwarves for their beauty standards, while tall-man cultures mostly (but not all) tend to look to the elves. It's a nice bit of worldbuilding that Chillchuk thinks of Senshi as very handsome!

Btw through a volume extra we see which doppleganger was made by who, and the mew-maxing Marcille was Senshi’s. I love how that implies that throughout the entire journey, both serious and funny, Marcille has always looked like that to Senshi.

One small thing I liked is that even though Laios's memories are pretty vague on the outfits for Chil/Senshi, the faces are spot on. That he's more accurate when it comes to Marcille makes sense too. They met Senshi recently, and Chilchuck keeps professional distance, but Marcille is his sister's best friend.

Since i didn't see anyone actually saying the whole thing and i'm bored, the author said which shapeshifter corresponded to each one of them so: For Laios: The giant one comes from Marcille, since she was told that Laios looked a lot like Falin, when she actually met him found him way more masculine The feminine/falin look-like is from Senshi. Dwarvs think that Tall-Men are very feminine in comparation to them The crazy one is from Chilchuk, he knows him pretty well but finds his monster admiration weird For Marcille: The mewing one is Senshi's. Dwarvs and Elf don't get along well and Marcille is the only one he has met so his mind is very influenced by the thing he heard of them The one with the extra long hair and bad magic is from Chilchuk. He likes long blonde hair and has zero interest in magic The one with her hair down and serious look is Laios's. How she looked when she performed black magic left a big impression on him For Chilchuck: The cute one is from Marcille, she knows he's an adult but it is still weird for her The very cute one with bad gear is from Senshi, he knows next to nothing about Half-foots and thinks he's a kid The one with a scarf is from Laios, overall a very accurate Chilchuck but he does not wear a scarf For Senshi: The one with a perfect helmet is Laios's, another very accurate depiction but he didn't notice that his helm was kinda broken The beautifull one is from Chilchuck. Some funfacts that you won't know unless you read the extra stuff the author did: handsome Senshi is Chilchuck's impression because dwarves are popular among halflings. Creepy Marcille is Senshi's because his race is scared of elves, stoic Marcille is Laios' memory from her resurrecting Falin because he's really impressed by her determination. Cute Chil is Senshi's because Senshi still thinks of him as a child. I love the show, but reading the manga really gives you the right amount of effort and thought has been put in by the author, she really cares for everything in the story, every single detail about those characters.

I haven’t read the manga but I did see the page that explained each fake and who’s thoughts they were based on. The last three were Chilchuck’s Senshi (apparently dwarves are often considered very masculine and handsome by half foots), Marcille’s Chilchuck (being an elf she sees him as a plucky youth) and Laios’s Marcille (her recent actions when trying to save Falin left the largest impact on him)

also, about why the dragon was moving: we already know why. It wasn't due to animal shit, it was beign controlled by the lunatic mage to 'find delgal'. THe lunatic mage is making falin do it because he thinks she's JUST ACTUALLY THE RED DRAGON and he's so insane now he doesn't think "why is the red drgaon a young woman who can talk now". THis is also why it was moving aroudn mroe than usual and in turn why falin got digested earlier than she was suppsoed to.

For why Laios did the dog impression, I think he deduced the shapeshifter was a beast capable of illusions. He figured that it probably has a keen sense of smell and hearing and heavy fur due to the cold blizzard weather of the dungeon floor. And as mentioned by some in the comments, the barking triggered a response from the shapeshifter.

The cool thing about Laios' monologue about dogs is that this fight was very much in line with canine hunting behaviours. Wolves and such stalk their prey to get as close as possible, stand by and intimidate it when spotted and attack when it starts to run and exposes weak points. Hence the best strategy being to stand your ground and outintimidate it, and the line "the first one to flinch loses". And knowing a lot about dogs, wolves and foxes makes sense for someone who grew up in a northern village with a lot of livestock

A kitsune, despite its ability to trick people with leaves-morphing, is a nine-tailed fox; and foxes are always hunted by hunter dogs and innately feel threatened by hunting dog barks. That's why Laios was ensuring he was imitating not just any dog but hounds.

1:10 2 versions kinda does exist mainly in the blu rays. note: specifically those bs 2-3 eps collector blu ray discs japan does. if dont know basically to up merch sales before making a full season set they make limited ep volumes. only containing 2-3 eps usually, if usd charge like 50+ per one and it contains like behind scenes, art cards and such inside it that the full release doesnt have at all. if go sounds crazy oh it is, but warning there is actual hardcore collectors of these will verbally attack you and anyone else that questions this hobby. they are also the ones that despises anime streaming since that will actually affect those they collect.

4:35 this is mainly to the manga only ppl that finished the manga. 5 4 3 2 ! from the adventurers bible vol.1 on flamela, death of her brother when the queen took him in since they share the same skin color due to royal blood does the theory of the queen is possibly some form of vampire lord/lich to live past 500 years true? if forgot or never read it: in her section from the book it goes into her origins. she had a twin brother which they both have the dark as night skin, red eyes and silver hair that only royal blood elves have like the queen. the queen got word of this and took the twin brother as her own child despite flamela and the brother parents are still alive. later the brother ended up dead with no reveal why. flamela demanded answers but was pushed away or they ignore her demands. in response flamela joined the guard and put herself in danger which the other guards make sure she lives by order of the queen due to flamela being possibly royal blood. to back this up on poissble vampire lord/lich: final volume of the book after laios became king the elves sent a message on how to stop this but the queen said allowed it, they talked about the feast and the queen mentions something she tasted a long time ago which made the others confused on that casual response of hers. fans theorize either those two i metnion or she is a dungeon master like thistle alive all this time and controlling a hidden dungeon somewhere.
