Sorry for long rant: What doesn’t get talked about enough, is how D/P has a lack of ice types, too. And you could only get Weavile near the Elite 4. Abomasnow is actually good in DP because of lack of fire types and fire moves, as move tutors wasn’t a thing. I hate it when people said that Platinum isn’t all that different from Diamond and Pearl, when that is not even true. Not to mention they could have made Dialga and Palkia do more than just sitting in 1 location. Shadows of Almia, an underrated Pokemon game, has a great way to show Dialga messing with Time, and Palkia messing with space. So BDSP not using this really sucks. Also, Distortion World will always mean something to me, as I have a different opinion of it than others. It is, without any doubt, my favorite place in all of Pokemon, and nothing comes close to it.

Routes are filled with tough trainers, cool pokemon to catch, and a dragon pseudo legendary in a secret cave BEFORE the 2nd gym. Cyrus at Giratina is a tough fight. Crobat, Gyarados, Houndoom, Weavile. One of the few pokemon games that isnt afraid to give ai trainers final stage evolutions.

omg! I remember as a lil girl staying up late to watch Diamond & Pearl cartoon on tv, I was obsessed with Piplup. Years later I tried playing Diamond on my DS but I guess i was too young and the game felt too slow.. I liked it but I needed more. I didn't even know Platinum keeps most of the story from DP and adds to it. I'm just waiting on a new 3ds to arrive so I guess i know what my first game will be. So excited, this seems much more alive but I guess thats why its also so popular

I grew up with the Diamond and Pearl anime too. Pokémon diamond on DS actually had a fundamental issue being functionally slow (like literally the game ran slow). I really think you’ll like some of the other games in the franchise

Gen 4 and Pokémon Platinum will forever be goated, Arguably the peak of Pokémon handheld games (not to take nothing from either Gen 3 or Gen 5) But Gen 4 was the peak of competitive Pokémon, you had your grind, you had to EV train for the battle tower, the progression and game was slow enough to keep you busy for days and days, the new evolutions for Gen 2 and 3 Pokémon were badass, Pokémon decide was at its highest, and this season of the Pokémon anime was some of the best we had too The soundtrack was gorgeous The map layout was cool and had pretty regions And the story was fucking cool And Platinum had such a cool way of intricating Pokémon from Gens 1-4 throughout the region Gen 4 Forever ❤️

Personally I think gen 4 & 5 were the peak of the games, but overall gen 4 as a whole narrows it out, since even if I think B/W and B2/W2 are better games than Platinum and HG/SS (even though they're all the best of the franchise) gen 4 wins in spin offs (battle revolution, mystery dungeon explorers, and ranger 2 & 3) but also the anime, I love the BW anime but I hate how they reset ash, meanwhile the sinnoh ash imo is the best ash joint with kalos. Gen 5 had the best mainline games but a badish anime Gen 4 has the 2nd best mainline games, a great anime, and great spin offs. I'll never forget watching the Sinnoh anime before school everyday, and when we finally got the league, ash using his old Pokemon was great!! (Something I think they should have used for the finale of Ash's journey with the champion tournament), GROTLE is my favorite pokemon because of the anime. And infernape and gliscor are up in the top 10 too, that final fight against Paul was awesome, and then ash managing to take down tobais' Darkrai *and* latios? AMAZING Gen 6

I've seen people say Platinum doesn't have good fire type variety but then they praise Emerald. I'm sorry, but Infernape, Magmortar, Houndoom, Flareon and Rapidash is a far better fire type roster than Blaziken, Camerupt, Torkoal, Magcargo and Ninetales.

Jacob you got my attention bro platinum was for me my first and most beloved generation that mostly came because i love the world building with arceus palkia and dialga and other things like unown, maybe a bad opinion but i always saw the hm’s as a means to keep you going around the region and have to wait before you acces certain places like with surf so I didn’t hate it so much of course if it was like a system where you don’t have to sacrifice a pokemon slot and like if you have a pokemon in you storage that knows the hm you need you can summon it just for that purpose something like that may would’ve been better but now i got to watch a bunch more Pokemon videos from your channel for sure

You know what would be cool? If someone did a no commentary longplay of Pokemon Platinum (post game included) with the Pokemon Paul uses. Torterra, Ursaring, Electivire, Weavile, Honchkrow, Ninjask, Gliscor, Magmortar, Hariyama, Nidoking, Aggron, Gastrodon (East Sea), Drapion, Froslass, Gyarados, Garchomp and Metagross. You can even name the player Paul too.

This game was my childhood. I went straight from firered to platinum, completely missing Emerald and Diamond/Pearl. I think BW2 is probably objectively better, but platinum is very special to me

The only thing that disappoints me about Platinum is you can’t get Misdrevious, Murkrow, Glameow and Stunky which is crazy. I traded Murkrow & Misdrevious from HeartGold but the other two I won’t be able to get.

Platinum was definitely better than Diamond and Pearl, but that isn't saying much. Nostalgia is what carries Gen 4 now. Sword and Shield and Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon literally do everything better, and it's not really close. Its really difficult to play Platinum and not get annoyed of how tedious or repetitive it is, or how awful the quality of life or ui and ux is in the game. The real reason BDSP is so bad is not because it is not like Platinum. No, it's bad because it's 'remaking' a lot of the same bad decisions that were in Gen 4 to begin with - horrible pacing, bad UI/UX, and bad quality of life. And on top of all of this, you got the awful HMs to deal with in Platinum too. The reality is, a slightly tweaked dex and some story and route changes are not enough to actually fix what is wrong with Gen 4. To fix Gen 4, you need to get rid of random battles, remove HMs entirely, get rid of all the text boxes that slow things down and all the annoying confirmation dialogs (berry planting and other things), let you remember moves from the menus instead of with heart scales, have much better access to reusable or rebuyable TMs, and add in things like bottle caps, and mints for the post game stuff. Wouldn't hurt to not have to rely on RNG manips to get high IV dittos as well, and you may as well add in the Mirror Herb to make transferring egg moves easier while you're at it. Do this, and these games get a lot more enjoyable to play while maintaining the nostalgia. That is what BDSP should have been, at the very least. I would have even gone further and made it full 3d like Sword and Shield with re-imagined zones, but at minimum, this is what they should have changed in BDSP.

I have to say that the original sinnoh games get too much hate, i just played through pearl and it was a very enjoyable experience, yes it does have it’s downsides but so does any game and i would say it’s much better than what people make it out to be

Diamond and Pearl get less hate now because of BDSP (even if BDSP is *technically* better than DP, it's more of a letdown and has a more controversial art style), but yeah, DP had their problems but weren't terrible. And then platinum is A or S rank

Platinum was my Intro to Pokémon and gaming and to me its the definitive Sinnoh experience. Not Gen 4 experience as to me thats Platinum with Heart Gold and Soul Silver.

I think Gen 4 was overrated. Black and white series clears and then you also got top tier Gen 2 remakes as well on the DS. I think Gen 4 is good but I don’t understand the top tier rankings it sometimes gets

They try too hard, gen 3 did it more better than gen 4 I like diamond better than this, I don’t care if it’s slow. Platinum do too much for the story it’s fine to add more Pokemon but the story is completely unnecessary Who care understand the main villain story. But one thing I like about this game is the post game that’s all Gen 3 use both evil teams and you need to stop both of them now that’s make more sense. Platinum just added too much to the story but the game is little harder The reason why I love diamond than platinum is that the story is simple to follow and I easily speed run the game. Platinum just slow it down by add more stuff And they ruined some of the gym puzzle that really got me mad

Loved the video, but i do have to say BDSP isnt gen 4, its gen 8, the gen is the era/time the games came out. Gen 4 is Diamond, Pearl, Platinum Heart gold & Soulsilver (ane the spin offs of the time) BDSP are Gen 8 sinnoh games HGSS are Gen 4 Johto Games Same way Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald are Gen 3 hoenn games, but ORAS is gen 6

You didn’t try catching a Shinx OR a Starly, by eterna forest you only had your starter and an HM slave smh you didn’t even try to get more Pokémon by the 2nd gym aside from Gligar and it disappoints me, Platinum had much a variety of Pokémon in every region from Gen 1 to Gen 4 if you knew where to look and you only had a bidoof and your starter smh

Before watching this, as a 20ish year old lady who has played it through about 10 or so times as a kid and just recently went through and finished it again, no. It isn't as good as I thought it was. And in fact, barring the unfinished and inconplete nature of gen 8 and 9, I thoroughly enjoyed those games more this year.
