Because of you Andy I am going on my first backpack camping trip since I was in high school (30+ years). In about a month my 18 year old son and I will be on our first 'test' camp (about .5km from the car) to try out all of our new gear, and to prepare for longer, multi-day trips. Thank you for sharing your adventures and for inspiring this old man to get back out there!

That storm reminds me of the first year I worked in the disabled campsite at Glastonbury. It was the year of the famous flood. A baptism of fire. I woke up around 5am due to the strength and noise of the rain and I heard shouting. They were asking for anyone available to help out rescuing people. We were 15 minutes from the festival being cancelled but luckily the rain stopped. How on earth they managed to cope with the ensuing mud and help everyone out is testament to how good they are. I've worked there ever since.

@@im-Sara-Jayne. Well, they don't actually. It's usually the drier month. But it's more than that. It's about a lot of things like infrastructure, the site, artists and so on. Many artists tour during the summer and are therefore available. The site of many different owners/farmers is available and also stuff like portable toilets is available. Sometimes there are problems like when the Olympics were on it caused a bit of a problem for toilets, but it all has to dovetail

I never drink coffee after 5pm in order not to undermine my chances of a good night's sleep. Green tea keeps me hydrated and cocoa/hot chocolate with plenty of coffee whitener makes a creamy comfort drink to bed down with when I wrap myself in my quilt. It seems, to me, that Ozark Trails equipment is hit or miss. I have to see it before I buy it, to check the seams, zippers and whatnot. I want to compare the wall tent they have to the one sold through Sportsman's Warehouse. It's a couple hundred dollars cheaper, but I want to know if it is lower quality or if I'd be paying for the brand name. I think that is the key to buying from walmart, always see if it is worth the savings.

I am amazed that the camp stove, when burning, does not char or catch the stump on fire. I learn so much from these videos.

I thought the same, putting on a wood stump I thought it would catch fire

Great vid as ever, you should consider using a British army bivvy bag when testing new tents and in storms. You are guaranteed a dry nights sleep if the tent does leak or even if it blows away altogether for that matter. I used one in my latest camping video, cracking bit of kit.

I own an Ozark Trail jacket which is excellent for the money, it cost me £32 and on a trip to Yorkshire it kept me warm and dry in minus 6 with a windchill of minus 10. It's 5 years old now but still going strong.

Cool video as always Andy..just wanted to clarify something for you, it’s not a 30% or whatever other % chance of rain when you look at a weather forecast, it means that the certain % of the area covered in the forecast map will be hit by rain at that time. 🌧️

This isn't true, and a commonly held myth 😊 have a search online, meteorologists, the MET Office, NWS all debunk this. From the MET Office website: For example, a 70% chance of rain represents a 7 in 10 chance that precipitation will fall at some point during that period. Chance of precipitation represents how likely it is that rain (or other precipitation: sleet, snow, hail, drizzle etc.) will fall from the sky over a certain time period.
