In the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the Supreme Court of the United States overturned its 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade, which had created a right to abortion through six months of pregnancy and even beyond. Was the Supreme Court Right in overturning Roe v. Wade?
In this video, Robert P. George, McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence and Director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University, argues that the Dobbs decision, though condemned by those who today call themselves “progressives,” was correct. Watch the video to learn why professor George thinks so.

I would have loved to hear guests from different religious traditions discuss their positions on abortions and see if they could reach a consensus.

It's by design. The court "overturned" the Ro v. Wade decision.

Oh my goodness. The first video I watched from this channel was about the importance of kindness, of acting with kindness and shared humanity within the context of this horrifying attempt at genocide in Gaza. This video is madness, though. A fetus is not a person, but the pregnant person is, period.

This was beautifully explained. People in America need to listen to nuance instead of political spin on media

In coran we can see that it talks about fetus "human" 1400 years ago....... 1 Recite with the name of your Lord Who created, 2 He made man from the clot of blood, 3 Recite, for your Lord is the Most Generous, 4 Who taught writing by the pen. 5 Taught man what not. 6 Yes, undoubtedly, man transgresses. 7 Because, he thought himself self-sufficient. 8 Undoubtedly, unto your Lord is the return. Taught man what he knew 9 Well, you see him who forbids 10 A bondman of Ours when he offers prayer. 11 well, you see if he would have been on guidance, 12 Or he would have commanded piety, what a good thing it had been. 13 Well you see, if he belied and turned back, then what would be his condition. 14 Did he not know that Allah is seeing? 15 Yes, if he desisted not, We will assuredly drag him by catching his forelock hairs. 16 forelock of what type, lying, sinful. 17 Now let him call his association 18 Just now We call Our guards. 19 Yes, hear him not and prostrate and draw near to Us.

This issue was never addressed in the constitution and therefore should be left to the states. This is strictly a matter for the states.

There were lots of things not addressed in the constitution. It doesn't mean it cannot or should not be. The amendments are proof of that. The document is meant to be revised with the times. The constitution is not a religious text that is set in stone, both figuratively and physically.

Another lesson on how clear text can be manipulated to say something that it clearly does not. Another case of judicial acting as legislative branch.

In Islam, all rights to grant life and death reside with Gid Almighty. Mankind can only choose to save life. If someone takes a life by his/her own will, he/she has to bear the punishment and penalty as it's a grave sin. In islam, all life is sacred (humans, animals, plants, and soil/rocks/mountains) as it's created for a purpose. Men and women are neither allowed to have illicit extra marital affairs nor to take a human life even if a child is born out of wedlock! However, when life of a mother or child are in danger, islam allows to save the life of one whose chances are more to survive. However, if a child has birth defects during pregnancy, he cannot be aborted, unless its dangerous for the life of mother or child. In short, Islam is pro-life!

In Judaism human life is sacred but animal life is not. This is not to say that animal life is not to be mistreated. In fact the 10 commandments were the first religious text to recognize that animals have rights in that they must rest on the sabbath. If you are confronted with the situation where a stranger and an animal were both drowning you are obligated to save the stranger first. Even if the animal is your pet dog.

Ofc but it’s not anti-choice. If it’s rape, abortion is permissible, same with incest, or possible threats to the life of a child or mother.

I like this channel a lot, but this video doesn't seem to really promote understanding nor empathy. This take seems to care more about the law itself than about the people. Giving the power back to the states enables them to oppress their people, which is exactly what's been going on in states that ban abortion. That's why Roe is necessary. Rights are not something you "impose" on anybody. One may choose to not excercise their rights, so there's really no imposing.

That's false. In fact many progressive people of the 20th century will say you need to establish the conditions conducive to equality. The "right" to abortion was forced as a "universal right" on the entire nation. This isn't democratic to say the least.

What a thing to say! To bring up empathy and understanding when talking about preserving the rights of often fully formed human beings in utero. So many of us have been brainwashed. The most egalitarian and left leaning countries are not so reckless with elective abortion. A woman doesn’t have the right to kill her 4 month of baby because she wants to be a girl boss or because her boyfriend is a bum.

Humanists also believe in pro-life laws (i.e deciding at a given time to save life of a mother or child -who's life has more chances to be saved...just like religious people.

Breaking news: life isn’t defined by religion. It’s defined by science. A tool we often use to make decisions about our life.

You have veered into an area way outside your intention of promoting understanding and empathy among members of various religions, especially the Abrahamic religions. This constitutional issue is, I dare say, “none of your business”. I am disappointed.

I don't know. This is an important topic very much guided by the religious understandings of the Abrahamic faiths. It was well understood that Roe v. Wade was a highly flawed ruling that at some point would succumb to legal challenges. Congress had about a half-century to codify Roe or make modifications that would then be codified. That never happened. Most Americans are somewhere in the middle between the extremes of the pro-choice camp and the pro-life camp. Dobbs forced a recalibration of how we think of abortion policy. There have already been backlashes in some "red" states regarding their increased restrictions on abortion. Indeed, the Democratic Party could use this issue for further political gains. What will be interesting is what will happen in "blue" states. That is, whether thy will keep their Roe era policies intact or whether there will be modifications in their laws. Most of the fallout from this video will be here in the comments section. It might be good to understand how the various religions historically understood abortion and how that would be implemented in policy. Not all understanding between religions will find "common ground" but at least we should hear these points of view out.
