I think the button position is just fine. All depends on how you extract the flashlight from your pocket. I don’t like the lights that have the switch towards the front on the small flashlights and prefer the tail switch.

I carry the standard wedge, and to be honest, I always have it on me. That is the great thing about it for me is that the form factor lends itself to every minute carry, at least for me. Love 1000 lumes, too.

I have both the Wedge and the Wedge XT, and while they’re both great lights, I’m more inclined to favor and use the smaller XT due to its size, easy of carry, UI and versatility. I’ve added a small ranger band to the XT for a more secure grip and it’s very comfortable to hold. These are lights worth owning, imo.

Have the original Wedge for about 2 or 3 years. LOVE IT. Upon seeing the HT model advertised, I thought it would be perfect upgrade and bought the first one I seen at a decent price. My findings were that-as much as I love tailcap switches on any EDC light-I couldn't jive with it on this one as I found myself activating the light about 7 times out of 10 when clipping it in the pocket, requiring me to remove the light, turn it off, and then REclip it trying to be delicate and hold it "around" the switch which was aggravating and way more effort, especially with the new pocket clip and thick pants material. My HT now lays on my end table beside me as I ponder selling it on a forum. The original Wedge is STILL my go-to light for EDC (and I'm surrounded by others usually!)

The larger light seems more appealing to me. I have been using the streamlight microstream for about 4 yrs now. Its been bomb proof and handy as heck. Especially with the double pocket clip. So nice to clip it on the bill of my hat. Top or bottom.

I received an Arkfeld Pro for Christmas, and have been very happy with it. if you dont need the laser light the Arkfeld UV has a lot of the features, but is a little bit smaller, and less expensive ($80) and you can get the laser with out the UV for $90. I like the looks of the wedge, but the functionality of the Arkfeld seems better suited to why I carry a light. That being said, it is always good to have comparisons, so we can see the differences in a side by side manner. this really helps with choosing gear. thanks.

My issue with these is, the fact there is no momentary on. As a avid edc user and ccw user, the rear button press is ideal. But you NEED to have the ability to have the momentary on. The fact you can't is an absolute killer for this light to me. Both of these lights I will never own due to the lack of rear momentary switch.

I own the wedge XT. I think this light is a great option for EDC and self defence. The light is small, fast, and a bright 500lms. I have extra large hands so that is not a problem. I use a lanyard on mine and it sits in my left, small, front tactical pants pocket. I highly recommend this light if you are looking for a small EDC, and self defense that is always with you and bright enough for most tasks. I am a security guard and use this light every night.

I think that you should treat them as two distinctly different models and evaluate them on their individual pros and cons. Two different form factors, two different designs, etc. If they named the new model something completely different it would probably been better all around. And at 7:12 your lighting subject looks thrilled :)

I have the XT, like the looks, lockout and rear button and the fact the clip can be switched with any Benchmade clip. It’ll probably end up in a daypack. One favorite, the Microstream (rechargeable), doesn’t have the lockout so I don’t pocket carry. Usually have the Olight IR2 on my keychain, it’s 180 Lumens is very handy.

I started looking for a upgraded light when I swapped to overnight shifts. I really liked the form factor of the flat style lights and did my due diligence on research on the different brands. For me... the features on the Olight Arkfeld vs. the Wedge made it a no-brainer. Still haven't felt the need to get a streamlight... and this version doesn't prompt me to change my mind. Not sure why the "hate" about the magnetic charging. Its super convenient... I come home and empty my pockets and just needed to place the Arkfeld next to the cable and it practically connected itself. Fast forward to today and I have several olights including the Arkfeld Pro and Olights charging strip with spots for 4 lights... it sits next to the magnetic charging dock for my phone. I've had too many issues with all the different types of usb ports wearing out on phones and other devices that need charging... magnetic charging just works better for me. Btw... thanks for the tip about that headband. May need to get one for days I don't feel like wearing a ballcap.

The Wedge in my opinion is better for a more utility role and the new XT is more for concealed carry for those how carry a light with a pistol. The tail switch is more natural to use in multiple hand positions. As a retired police officer that was using a flashlight before Surefire introduced their crazy bright tactical flashlight that had a sun bright 60 lumens, there definitely are flashlights for different roles. I really like the new XT.

I mean what the wedge was initally was a budget answer for the surefire stiletto, anyone that didnt wanna spend surefire money would get this, no brainer.. except it doesnt have a tail switch, so for the same application, it didnt really fit. (That application being a companion for a pistol.) So them finally updating it makes a lotta sense to me. Actually makes it competitive and comparable in form factor.

After splurging on Cloud Defensive lights with their lifetime warranty, insane intensity and being made in the USA its really hard to use other lights. For head lamps I really like Ledlenser, but my all time favorite is the SureFire Maximus. Initially it felt heavy with the single strap, but its easy of use functionality can't be beat.

My brother-in-law has the larger wedge and a surefire flat style too. As my regular work light I use an Olight Warrior Mini2 on person and the Arkfeld UV in my tool bag. When I’m off carry the Olight Arkfeld Pro. After comparing all four models, my b-i-l now carries the Olight Arkfeld Pro as his off duty light too. The Arkfeld Pro has enough power / lumens, a useful laser pointer, and a useful up light. The laser an be used on the job site to point things out to people. The uv light I use to look for refrigeration leaks on hvac equipment ect. So I find it much more useful than the other brands of flat knife carry style lights. Besides, I don’t think any of these type of lights are true “tactical” lights, but they will carry better, and work good enough for that.

Aaron, I much prefer tailcap activation. I keep my light in my back pocket and the draw is similar for forward switch vs tail switch, but I find the tail switch if more of a flow of motion whereas the forward switch is more of an adjustment to make it work. Regardless, I was waiting for a good review (like yours) before making my mind up about the light, so thank you!

I purchased the Wedge after viewing your original review of it. Although it is just a touch long, I love it. I agree with all your comments on the comparisons. As I am now retired from law enforcement, I'm not regularly doing room clearing or other tactical operations and therefore prefer the switch on the wedge for EDC use. As you stated, It would be nice if it had a 3-position switch for the high output instead of having to keep pressure on the switch and a 2-position pocket clip would have been a nice addition. That being said, I would not purchase the new version. Keep up the great work!

G'day Aaron, I like the rotary style switch, but they shoulda made a bit more of it. I like a tail switch too, but they only make sense to me when supported by a body switch. Anyway that's all moot, since I have never and will never purchase a light with a non-replaceable battery. Btw; good to see the ol' Niteze headstrap get a mention, such a great bit of kit for a pittance. Cheers Duke.

I can't justify getting a wedge style light when you can get the AAA microstream pretty regularly for $20 (or even as little as $12 on sales), it clips to a ball cap, is lighter and you can change batteries (for those who use their stuff in less than planned conditions you'll know what I mean if I said rechargeables are a nice idea that Murphy always ruins). If I need a bigger brighter handheld light I've never had issues with the cr123a/18650 powered ones or felt they were awkward to carry.

I've carried the new Wedge for a month or more in my left jean pocket, it turns on by itself quite frequently. I tried my right pocket and it stilled turned on in a sitting position. So I tried looser jeans and it didn't turn on as much but still did in sitting or bending over. Back button is a pain when carrying in side pocket like an EDC knife.

The Wedge is ok. But most of the screws went missing. The original Arkfeld wont take a charge after a drop or two. Love the size of the Microstream but 250 isn't enough. This Wedge XT looks interesting; good form factor, bright enough, deep carry and probably much easier to hold in my mouth (important to me). I'll porbably get it. But, my current edc is a Kunhe keychain flashlight. After spending thousands over the years, a $10 dollar cheapie flashlight (2 for $19) gets the most use. Going on 3 months. Probably wont make it til the end of the year but it's so damn usefull.

Warrior Mini 3 FTW. All day long. About the same length as the XT, replaceable batteries, better candela, better run times, moonlight mode, both side and tail switches, reversible clip, IPX8, and $63 when on sale... and after the WM3 outlasts the XT by 2x, you can simply drop in another battery and keep on going. lol that "dumb proprietary charger" is more robust than ALL forms of USB. It's much preferred to replace a bad charge cable than a light where the port has gone bad. It may be easier to change USB cables... but the weak link is generally the port on the device.

I like the tailcap switches better than the button body type, it's much quicker and easier to find and use when working one handed, and especially in a self-defense type situation. On the square body lights it's not as big of a difference than it is with round body ones. Streamlight makes some great stuff, but Olight Arkfeld wins the square body duel with more options, colors, runtimes, and brighter output. How about a review of the new Streamlight Strion when it hits the stores?

What I want to know more about is the switch. I have several lights with tailswitches that don't stick up even as high as that one, and yet they're so sensitive that the lightest touch can turn them on in my pocket without me realizing. Especially when I bend or kneel, the bunching up of fabric around my waistline is somehow enough to hit the switch; and an hour later, I'm wondering why my leg is so warm and I find that the battery is almost dead! So for me, whether or not I could use this light as an EDC would depend on how sensitive the switch is. Also I've gotten into lights with warmer LEDs and higher CRI (I use my light daily at work and I'm not a fan of the bright bluish-white that washes out details), and brands like Streamlight just don't seem to offer much for options like that.
@OtherThanIntendedPurpose

I have had this issue in the past, and now all of my EDC lights have some form of lock out. being fully honest, most of my lights are Olight, and the lights with onboard rechargeable batteries usually do have a lock out, that required you to hold the button for a few seconds, till the light blinks, then it is locked, holding again for a few seconds unlocks it and turns the light to it's lowest mode ( most have a moonlight mode) this has saved me from dead batteries, and hot pockets for the last few years. issues I had often before finding lock out mode lights.
@taylorfishman823
@taylorfishman823 4 ай бұрын
@@OtherThanIntendedPurpose yeah most of my lights have some kind of lockout. Usually it's something like four clicks to lock, four clicks to unlock. And that's fine, but I use my light so often while working that it's a huge hassle to have to unlock every time I pull it out, then re-lock every time I put it back. And I can't deal with the battery being drained by it being on in my pocket during the times I'm not using it. So lockout modes aren't really the problem-solver for me, personally. Which is why if a light has a switch that easily gets triggered in the pocket, I won't use it even if it is lockout capable.
@OtherThanIntendedPurpose
@OtherThanIntendedPurpose 4 ай бұрын
@@taylorfishman823 understandable. You have to get things that serve YOUR purpose. as a stay in the house mostly disabled vet, who does most of my activity from 9 PM to 5AM, moonlight modes are critical for me, where a lot of people actually don't like a light if it even has moonlight. .5 lumen is plenty to make sure I am not tripping on anything in the house, but not waking anyone with the blast of light either.

The day I pay $100 or less for a pen light? Take me away to the funny farm. I think for self-defense? We should consider a laser light.... Are laser flashlights illegal? In the U.S., it is legal under federal law to own a laser of any power. But often people talk about “illegal laser pointers”. This is somewhat confusing shorthand meaning that the manufacturer or seller illegally called a laser above 5 milliwatts a “pointer”, or illegally promoted it for pointing purposes.
