Anytime you get off line always slow down and start over. Once a mistake is made you can't fix it up to speed without creating another mistake. I'm no pro but I raced for a few years and that's what seemed to work great for me 👍 great video

Yup that's correct. Best to slow down and reset. Thanks man!

Great analysis. I learn a lot about how to handle emergency situations from guys on the track. I know it's hard to say, "I'd do that" but when in the moment your head is elsewhere and your window for recovery is very small. It probably could have been saved with some aggressive braking, but he probably thought he could pull out of it before the rumble strips stole his feel for the tires.

Appreciate it! I agree with your analysis as well.

The rumbles set him off...he was going off track for sure but may not have crashed if he didn't get target fixated on the wall. just my 2 cents

Hmm...you're right didn't think about target fixation. That could have been a cause too.

First off, I like the format of the discussion paired with reviewing the video. Secondly, I wonder if the headshake from hitting multiple rumbles caused the front brake pads to separate so that he really didnt have any front brakes - and there was not enough time to pump them to re-seat them. Lastly, things happen so fast, it's tough to instantly react sometimes.

Thank you! Yeah I wonder but he didn't mention anything of losing his front brakes. But I agree things happen really fast and its hard to react when shit goes wrong.

Head shake wasnt hard enough to spread the brake pads.

He needed to be a bit tighter at the top of the S and I think he could've saved this by continuing up the grass on the left vs cutting across the track which is pretty dangerous.

Looks as if you spooked your buddy...blew his concentration. You blow one turn..its screws you up for the following. But....he looked spooked and tried to gather it up and stay with you. Plus..look where you want to go..NOT where you think you may crash...

Great breakdown, definitely think he could have saved but the intensity of a race causes us to make mistakes many times. I also wonder if he straight-lined through the gravel and hunkered down on both brakes on the pavement before the wall if it would have lessened the crash damage, but there's gravel sprinkled there as well and he was still moving at a decent pace so maybe not. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fF7cnaCKfbWcg7c Here's my wreck here the same year just a couple corners before this, although mine was 100% rider error shifting down instead of up lol.

I appreciate it man! Yeah there was a possibilty if he slowed it down on the sections before, he could have used that final pavement before the wall to slow it down a lot! Gotta use all the pavement you got!

Hey man thanks again for that monkey grip info! But I definitely believed he could’ve saved it. Especially if he would’ve steered the bike with his feet. Looks like he was flat footed (lazy riding). Sometimes you don’t know you’re doing it until someone shows you.
@cheetah740

Hey no worries glad it helped. I don't think it was being lazy or flat footed. He's actually a very good rider, I think in the heated race moment, one error can lead to a few others especially when you're going down the esses at Road Atlanta since the switchbacks happen very quickly.
