Prankster tailwind definitely needs a nerf. If trick room has negative priority, it’s only fair that tailwind have the exact same priority reduction. Especially in this new reg, it’s glaring how oppressive it is. I literally see it almost every single game with Whim being the biggest offender.

I think tailwind itself is broken, less than the prankster aspect of it. even if they changed the mechanics of tailwind (no prankster or -1 priority) it's so crucial to have speed control that everyone is still going to run tailwind however they can to get it up before their opponent. So I'm not sure if changing the mechanic will make the outcome much different. Totally agree its prominence is frustrating as regulations have gotten so hyper offensive without much counterplay, u end up having to just join the tailwind club yourself to survive

I think one possible fix would be if there was a move that could turn Tailwind off. Like, if the opponent sets up weather, we can turn it off. If opponent sets Trick Room, we can turn it off. If opponent sets hazards (in singles) we can turn it off, if opponent sets screens, it is possible to break with psychic fangs/brick break (niche but at least it exists). Tailwind on the other hand is untouchable. If Game Freak added a move that could turn off Tailwind, and made it available to multible pokemon as a TM, it would be an interesting way to counterplay.

Yeh that would be cool actually. The closest thing we have to that right now is court change. Which just switches the side of the field effects, but being able to “break” the tailwind seems fun

Thing you forgot to mention is that (near) prankster tailwind users basically get 4 turns of tailwind as they can set it at the beginning of the turn whereas a tailwind setter that is slower will only get 3 turns of tailwind as they may set it and the end of the turn.

Dynamic speed is one of the best changes they made, it makes the game more proactive for speed control options like Icy Wind, Scary Face, etc. But I feel like Prankster Tailwind is broken for this mechanic because it DOUBLES your side's speed, and with Prankster always going first, it's almost impossible to match without a Prankster Tailwind on your own. Things like Icy Wind, or Scary Face has its own drawbacks like Icy Wind is an attack and you still need to be faster than your opponent, and Scary Face is only single target, you can't also use it on Dark types if you're Prankster as well. I think they should give it negative priority like TR, it opens up for counterplay like your choice locked attacker not being able to stall out before getting the speed boost, or your Tailwind setter being open to double-ups while your ally Protects. Also give opportunity to more supportive bulky Tailwind users like Mandibuzz, Zapdos, or even Skarmory for example.

I enjoyed listening to this video. I do think removing prankster tailwind users would change things. The current fastest tailwind user can get out-sped and OHKO or taunted by non-tailwind users. If a tailwind user has choice specs, then it can’t have covert cloak at the same time.

There is less counter play for prankster tailwind You can't stop it with fake out because they all run cover cloak One of the only way to stop prankster tailwind is sniping it tera normal sword of ruin boosted extreme speed from D nite

I think non prankster users must have a specific tailwind buff. I’m not sure what it should be but I think that’s the best way to stop seeing those two mons everywhere lol

I think the brick break idea is not helping at all. The meaningful change I see is changing tailwind to +1 instead of +2. This would make agility, scary face, string shot etc. a viable alternative for speed control. Also maybe some field effect preventing speed changes could be interesting.

Covert cloak is problem item. I hate that there is little counterplay to prankster tailwind. Or play hard trick room but you are still losing a turn to set it up.

Gen 10 mods imo Dynamic speed - remains the same as gens 8&9 Prankster - cannot have flinch potential reduced/negated by items or abilities Fake out - becomes Dark type

Just run Urshifu-Dark, who absolutely obliterates all of the common trick room setters, and pair it with 2-3 fake out users. Both Tail Wind and Trick Room are addressed without the need for your own mass speed control.

@@yungelmersglue You can get real niche and run stuff like CBand T-Normal Espeed Dragonite, but now you're over compensating. Having 2-3 Fake Out users means you can accept Torn getting off Tailwind, while mitigating its allies with Fake Out. Kill Torn during the first Tailwind and you don't have to worry anymore. Also, if you run a faster prankster Taunt, they'd either have to run Mental Herb to beat it, or commit to Tera Dark, either of which means the rest of your game plan should be in good shape.

I think the biggest problem is that dynamic speed is primarily beneficial for speedsters due to Trick Room being negative priority. Trick Room takes at least one turn for you to benefit from it. That negative priority also means Trick Room's harder to set up. What can you do against a Whimsicott with Cover Cloak? You can't Fake Out it or guarantee a faster Taunt. A Trick Room user, however, can't hold both Mental Herb and Covert Cloak at the same time to guarantee setting up Trick Room. It's not a fair situation. This is worsened by how Gamefreak generally speedcreeps with every generation, so Trick Room gets relatively worse every time as more stronger fast attackers get released.

Dynamic speed mechanic only benefitting the fast mons and not so much so for slower mons made the metagame much more linear and homogeneous Wouldn't say it was a good decision especially considering mons like Urshifu that was introduced at the same time

Technically, Unseen Fist is an ability, not a mechanic. But it is also very much so a mistake
