"Well, I looked into it and I am here to tell you that not only is the aforementioned mostly made up, the compression algorithm used in Gen 2 actually took up more space. 4:33 I'd like to clarify an error, here. Creatures is still a *massive* force in The Pokémon Company. Not only do they still manage the merchandising of the franchise (which garners the majority of revenue for Pokémon), they also still handle modeling for the main games. They were even the developers for Detective Pikachu Returns. If anything, Creatures Inc is the sole Mommy of TPC.

More people need to know about this kind of stuff. Every time I try to explain this to them they tell me I'm lying or exaggerating or whatever else the excuse is. But this has all been known information for such a long time. Gamefreak is not given the resources or time to make good games and moreover they don't WANT to make Pokemon games. It's time for Nintendo to fully acquire the franchise and shift development to someone else who will treat it with care and give it the same level of Nintendo polish and investment that you see with things like Mario or Zelda.

For exemple team A release à game in 2026 for 30 anniverssary and 10G symbol but , now actually in 2023 you put on the road the B team for 2029 for 11G , since 2026 the A team work for the 12G for 2032. When Sword and Shield came out there was a bigger outcry for handing off the duty of making core Pokémon titles to another studio and there was a big pushback against the idea by a bunch of GF apologists that must’ve been children. Imagine forming a parasocial relationship with a faceless billion dollar studio that’s giving you what looks and plays like a budget product at the price of a AAA game.
@Zynnix Жыл бұрын
@@protocetid I don't understand the apologists' line of thinking at all. And the problem is now that people will point to the mess that ILCA made with BDSP and hold it up as an example of what happens when GF isn't in charge. When instead it should be an example of what a mess their systems are that another studio can't step in in such a short time frame and make an acceptable quality product with what they're given. Give any studio a reasonable development time that suits the scope of the game and things will start improving whether its GF behind the wheel or not.

@@Zynnix GF outsourcing a game right after the GF fanchildren gave so many bad reasons for why mainline Pokémon should not be given to another developer makes me laugh. Plenty of outside studios have made Pokémon games that look like they had real care and money put into them, gen 4 remakes being subpar is far from enough of evidence that GF is the only choice. But the fanchildren tune them out because it doesn’t suit their narrative, that’s your brain on parasocial relationships. Don’t forget the budget they allocate for Pokémon has to be small to maximize margins and that’s why the games look like they can run on a phone.

Game Freak nowadays doesn't care for the technical aspect of the games, only the artistical. And why would they? The games sell anyways. That's the honest opinion from Game Freak. The seniors don't want to lear new technology, which is why Sword and Shield looked like 3DS titles. ScarVi were the ones with normal maps and metal shaders, despite the fact that these rendering techniques are a thing for decades.

the worst part about his analogy is he's being absolutely generous in saying that they had 3 years to develop scarlet and violet. because lets not forget that there was a dedicated team to frequent patching of SwSh after its release and for its 2 DLCs that it released. it would be more realistic to say that they had around 1.5-2 years to actually work on the game, or at least fully dedicate to Scarlet and violet. so imagine your tasked with creating the next line of games legends: arceus and scarlet/violet in a two year time frame. you have to split up your teams and dedicate half of your already small team to both projects and hope that one of them succeeds. so you have a fraction of the people who worked on games like mario odyssey and mario wonder and tears of the kingdom and you have half the time to work on it, oh and your working with half the budget of those games (because despite being the largest media franchise in the world you cannot dedicate any money to your flagship games). its a miracle that the games were even playable at launch.

Why has it not been moved to a bigger, more capable studio or why hasn’t Game Freak evolved into a bigger more capable studio that can handle these games? You’d think Nintendo & the TPC would want to put a lot into this franchise to make it the best it could be.
@xxhobocatxx2869 Жыл бұрын
The answer is simple. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Pokemon will sell 10s of millions of copies regardless simply due to the brand name attached to the game. Look at Scarlet and Violet. Those games launched in a laughably bad and embarrassing state, and yet they still went on to sell more than 20 million copies. Why would The Pokemon Company want to hire more people and give out more resources and time, if the games will still sell gangbusters regardless? I'm sure the people making the games want the games to be as good as they can be, but they aren't being given the time and resources to do so by upper management. They HAVE to get the next generation of Pokemon out in 3 years so they can put out the new anime, and most importantly, put out new merchandise. This is where Pokemon really makes its money. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the highers only see the games as the vehicle through which they introduce new Pokemon every 3 years and nothing more.

I forgot which one but based on that, it's actually safe to say that Nintendo has majority ownership over the Pokémon IP. Now, this is just a personal theory, but why Nintendo doesn't do anything to "right" the ship of Pokémon is because it is still selling gangbusters. Face it, no company, no matter who owns it, will try to "right" a ship consistently selling tens of millions of copies of games and raking in billions with millions of die hard fanboys and fangirls who will defend it like it is their Identity. Pokémon as a creative product, has been creatively bankrupt and really horrendously handled for years now, and the biggest reason for that, is that upper management is too busy huffing their own farts, thinking that their stupidity is what makes Pokémon sell, but frankly, the only reason Pokémon sell, is because Pokémon has got very marketable products and is constantly advertised. Without the brand name of Pokémon, nothing that the leadership of Gamefreak creates will do anything because they are incompetent.

Frankly, if it was JUST Nintendo, I suspect that they at least took notice of how much of a stain on their reputation the state SV launched in was; especially since they were there to see similar disasters (namely, Sonic on two separate occasions, one of which they had to directly help the struggling dev team with an entire engine swap), and also had to basically refund copies of SV itself when it was clear customer satisfaction got SUPER low. But no, I think it's upper managament on all fronts. Even if Nintendo wanted to change it, upper management of Game Freak (who technically owns 2/3rds of The Pokemon Company now that Creatures was incorporated into them) would likely object because the games still sell well. The best we can actually hope for is some kind of work environment investigation of the Game Freak studios, instigated by Nintendo after the backlash of SV's launch, but I'm not sure they'd ever go that way either because the games still sell millions anyways and that kind of work environment is apparently common in Japan (even if not in Nintendo's own inhouse teams, who are clearly not afraid to delay the latest Mario or Zelda if it needs more time in the oven). Edit: there's actually no info on why Creatures Inc was removed from Game Freak's "list of partners" on their websites. The idea that they got incorporated into or otherwise got more closely tied to GF rather than just staying business partners is my speculation, since the company still exists and is still credited in the games to this day, as well as the models of both Pokemon and characters genuinely improving in SV itself (as well as Pokemon animations improving in Legends).

Nah, they have games like arceus, they have ideas, they’re just too lazy to use them. @@jacksonvoet8312 I would say it's not that they're too lazy to use them; it's that they seem to SEVERELY underestimate the time they need to make those ideas a reality in game. Nintendo should definitely step up to ensure quality products, but given GF is always full of ideas and trying to execute them (and the one time that would disprove this was when they handed the project to an outsourcing company with a very strict "stay faithful" guideline), I'd say they were never "lazy", just always severely underestimating the programming side of things; they focus on the artistic side first.

I decided to make another comment because the satire here for the line "the Pokémon games are fun" and "the connectivity is what makes our game sell so well" are both bullshit. Why Pokémon sell well has absolutely nothing to do with the games. Legit, get rid of the games and Pokémon would still make as much money as they do now, because the games are absolutely worthless. They are NOT fun and the only thing that makes them sell as well is because of the Pokémon name. While the first few games were novels and did help kick start the Pokémon franchise success, it was quickly overtaken by the merch and anime and everything else side. The games are the least profitable part of the business. Frankly, as someone said, Pokémon could take a few years off and nothing will happen to their bottomline but the only reason they don't do so is because squeezing every last dime.

The anime that barely adapt game content, and ended up starting it's 9th gen season (that is kind of a reboot that was barely marketed by TPCi) months after Scarlet and Violet? The anime that hasn't gotten any new movies in years because they don't sell anymore? Yeah, right, you guys really should stop making up stuff about how important the anime that you haven't watched for 20 years is for the franchise, because it has been bullshit for years. When a Pokemon game gets delayed they just make up filler (see the Orange Islands, Battle Frontier, Delcora Adventures), that's all. And for the love of god you guys need to stop that narrative that the Pokemon games aren't fun lol, if people only bought them out of nostalgia each game wouldn't outsell the next one. @@NintenSegaPlay Both of you are wrong; it's neither the games nor the anime that have the most influence, but merchandise. The games merely kickstart new batches of Pokemon to make merch off of, and the anime is then used to push certain Pokemon forward so they can sell more merch of those specific Pokemon. I disagree with OP that Pokémon games ain't fun. The core formula is pretty simple and fun, it just needs the right added QoL to keep up with the times; but for that to happen, they need the extra time and ressources, which is why HGSS and B2W2 are so beloved (because since the region is mostly already fully made, they can focus their efforts on making changes to not make them as dated while adding new content to make these entries still feel fresh). However, it remains to now that the core formula is so barely modified from its inception, it has become stale, and every attempt to renovate it ends up being a one-time only occurrence that is lucky to appear twice. Even Legends's catching mechanics ended up mostly dropped in SV.

@@NintenSegaPlay Nope. The games aren't fun. No matter how much you wished it was. How it sells so much is literally due to the name Pokemon. @@cttommy73 That is... essentially what I said, with a few extra added points. Merch is still what makes the entire franchise run, the anime is merely used to promote new Pokemon in an attempt to sell more varied merch (it mostly fails but keeps going until it hits that one extra sweetspot sometimes; more often than not, people already have the same few favorites, most of which are from Kanto due to the impact of the original games AND anime season, which is why Pikachu is still the mascot even after they dropped Ash and is thus still the one that sells the most merch by FAR. However, that's only the case if they actually have enough staff with the correct skillsets to actually make the games in the first place. More time wouldn't have saved S/V, you can see that clearly with the new DLC and update actually making the games performance worse, it's simply a lack of talent.

I just hope one day, the main series games get the love they deserve; I'll wait the 5 years for a new game to come out. Just made side games or remakes in the mean time. Please, just take your time.

Three years? HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHA! Try 9 months to a year now for annual releases! They are in way over there heads! 141 total employees split into 3-ish teams. Quarter of a AAA budget. Tech a generation behind. 30 mill budget if their lucky. 9-12 month dev cycle. To say they are in over their heads is an understatement!

Pokemon NEEDS a flop to save itself at this point. But Pokemon fans are the worst at buying anything with a Pokemon logo on it, so it won't happen unless the Switch 2 itself flops like the Wii U. It's a sad state of affairs for Pokemon fans who want to see this franchise reach it's full potential.
@extremmefan7305 Жыл бұрын
Ironically, Pokemon fans are kinda terrible at buying stuff that aren't mainline releases. They easily disregard spinoffs because, as is, they barely have time to enjoy them alongside the maingames. It feels like the nonmobile spinoffs are mainly bought by either dedicated existing fans who already gave up on the mainline series (and that's often the majority), or people outside the fandom (and thus also don't necessarily keep up with mainline releases) just seeing a game with the Pokemon logo and assuming "that's a Pokemon game" (which, they're not wrong per se). Even in the mobile scene, I wouldn't be surprised if games like Masters were only really sustained by only REALLY dedicated fans. Pokemon Go obviously being the exception.
@wesnohathas1993 Жыл бұрын
The weird thing is Pokémon fans not only buy every new mainline game that releases, but they also vehemently defend every single glaring flaw you can point out. They're huffing astronomical amounts of copium to convince themselves these games are actually good. Any other fandom will recognize when their series hits a low point or releases a real stinker and act accordingly.

FYI Iwata's algorithm didn't help them fit Kanto onto the cartridge, and Gold and Silver were not "just Johto" before Iwata showed up. These were the common consensus for quite a while but we've learned a LOT since then. Iwata's algorithm actually took up space on the cartridge as opposed to freeing any up, but he apparently wrote it to massively improve loadtimes for things like battle transitions which were pretty slow in gen 1. Not only that, but gen 2's original map was the ENTIRETY OF JAPAN for some god-forsaken reason, which was so crunched down to fit onto a Game Boy cart that it actively made the game worse. I don't know who made the decision to just do a smaller chunk of Japan (namely Kansai) but it eventually lead to gens 3 and 4 essentially using unused concepts from that gigantic Japan map to represent more of Japan across several games rather than the entire country represented poorly on a little Game Boy cartridge.

Agree with a large fraction of the video, bonus points for saying gen 5 looked bad at the time (I still think it does) and for stating the most likely reason they remade Diamond and Pearl instead of Platinum. Businesses love to make decisions based on surface level observations of statistics instead what would make sense and make fans happy, it’s like they don’t realize that not everyone would buy an almost identical game a second time. Doesn’t Nintendo own a third of Pokémon and not GF, is it confirmed that GF doesn’t have more than enough money and doesn’t need to be given any by TPC? I would’ve included that GF’s Pokémon titles look like mobile games, and the budget required for for a smartphone game is minuscule compared to a true AAA game, they must have some big margins! Never forget GF said they’d never cut the National Dex. There’s a bit more material here, they’re supposedly anonymous reports of what working at GF is like. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHTGg6V5p7Splas

I sadly have a bootlicker in my group who swears that GF has a 6 year cycle. And I don't buy that And same person also swears up and down Gen 9 has its issues because it was made for the non-existent (he claims canceled) Switch+, and you can't optimize a game down.
@goldmemberpb Жыл бұрын
TBF, if you have a modded Switch and use the full capability of the base Tegra chip, it runs without any lag or hitches. It does feel like the game was most likely designed with higher specs in mind and they didn't have the resource to optimize it for base Switch.
@tristanalain9239 Жыл бұрын
@@goldmemberpb that's not really a good defense though. Most people don't mod their shit, and even then, it doesn't excuse the fact TPCI is absolutely cucking GF with the time and not giving them the needed resources
@goldmemberpb Жыл бұрын
@@tristanalain9239 not saying that excuses the poor performance. It is just a guess as to why SV has this issue. Even LA did not have this level of issue. No pokemon game prior ran this poorly. @Goldfire345 Жыл бұрын
@@goldmemberpb i highly doubt that because they have to plan the development of these games years in advance because of their tight schedule so there would be no time to make a game targeting something they don't know exists yet. They'd need the development units they're using in their hands long before the development starts. If switch pro or plus Dev units went out it would be in the news for all to see. So no they weren't targeting any more powerful hardware they're just bad at making large scale open world games. Period.

I think regardless of what TemTem could do, or any other monster collector/training/battle game could, they will never beat Pokemon. Because the strenght of the franchise is the Pokemon themselves. That's why every fakemon tries to imitate the artstyles. Pokemon has no real competitors. They are the only one doing what they do at this scale. So they can pretty much do what they want. Since the amount of ressources they input for their projects results in ridicuslously large profits, there is no point in taking the risk to change the recipe. And the games is maybe the tiniest piece of the cake. Pokemon won't change drastically no matter how loud the fans of the games whines.

"People seem to like the new games. Because we know how to make fun games." Full stop. Thats a lie, and it's the one lie that everyone who cares about Gamefreak's beloved series refuses to just own up to. People like those games, because they are POKEMON. Nothing else. If any game released to the quality and design of pokemon today but through a different IP, it would be either panned or forgotten about in the sea of bad games within months. They buy buy buy because it has the face and name of something they love, higher ups take it as a sign that everything's great, and then give less and less resources to their workers in order to try and save on time and production costs. Resulting in a cycle of worse and worse games promising more and more, while fans just lap up whatever is made because its Pokemon. Mark my word: The next main Pokemon games will be completely broken on launch. Because Scarlet and Violet practically were. It is not any single groups fault, it would stop at any time if any single group wised up.
