Win or lose, this is a win. Playing for the future is the only way. No more playing for 2022 that World Cup has gone and passed.
@djknox22 ай бұрын
Yeah I'm not sure. Canada's success in 2026 hinges on playing in the Copa America this summer. Remember, they have NO qualification process and so advancing into the knock out round of the Copa America will be their ONLY big test as preparation. If they screw this up against T&T, this will be the biggest fail in the team's history. The good news is I can't see how they screw this up, so Biello probably gets away with it.
@jaytse22692 ай бұрын
Waiting on some delusional T&T supporter to chime in here how they should be favored and.are the more talented side 😂@@djknox2

@@djknox2, yes but as I mentioned in the other chats, this game is not a slam dunk. T&T beat the U.S. 2-1 in November & lost to Jamaica 1-0 on March 1st & tied Jamaica 0-0 on March 3rd. Also discussed in the other chat, while a lot of what you said is true, the old guard has not been impressive at all since the qualifiers for the 2022 World cup. They totally underperformed versus Jamaica in another crucial match. It is time to move on and live or die with the players who will be there in 2026 & create a revised team that needs to start to develop a new identity... hopefully a winning one. There definitely is risk, but one worth taking, rather than muddling along, repeating the same mistakes over & over again.
@djknox22 ай бұрын
@@jrcanuck1 I think the refs - in both matched - screwed them over. Mix that with a little bad luck, and they ended in a tie against Jamaica. T&T are about #10 in CONCACAF. If Canada can't beat them on neutral ground, I'd say pack it in. They can search for their new identity all summer at the Copa America, Right now, win this match.

As I mentioned earlier, I would bet big dollars that Canada Soccer's new General Secretary & CEO, Kevin Blue is behind this huge shift to inviting many young exciting players. Of course Biello, is going to listen to him if he wants to even have a chance of becoming the long term head coach. With the 2 friendlies & now this, it appears that Blue is looking to shake things up & leave a bold imprint. I love it!

wow way to go for biello, definitely didn't think he had the balls to drop Borjan and Vitoria
@coulj69172 ай бұрын
I love the changes. Competition for spots is the key. I hear all the concerns about dropping Vitoria, but for me he was becoming a liability because of his lack of pace. Kamal Miller isn't the quickest , he needs an athletic CB besides him. My #1 request is for Biello , not to play with 2 strikers. Play with 3 in midfield. Larin isn't playing so well that we have to start him. Jamaica exploited our porous midfield.
@FootballIgnitedАй бұрын
true, I agree with everything you said. Jamaica read us like a book tbh lmao
@greglawrence9230Ай бұрын
Vitoria's obvious pace issues have to be considered against his strengths, which are; reading the game, coordinating the rest of the back line, stopping forward movement of the opposition before they can turn, and header clearances on set piece defense. Who has come in that has shown they can do those things as effectively as he can? No amount of wanting someone else to do it can change the fact that plenty have come in and had their chance and not been able to perform those things the way he can. I fully agree that he is obviously the role where there is the greatest urgency to find a replacement. But who? Apparently it's Cornelius for no other reason than 'it's time'. Ridiculous.
@greglawrence9230Ай бұрын
@@FootballIgnited They sure did. A tactical adjustment that Canada should have seen and responded to. Lowe got a yellow card for aggressively tackling Eustaquio from behind prior to the instance where it resulted in a goal. Zero tactical adjustment from Biello. The suggestion that the problem was due to the 'old guard' of players is disgusting.
@coulj6917Ай бұрын
@@greglawrence9230 Prior to the WC , friendly vs Japan long ball done for pace. Against Belgium at the WC, one ball over the top Nation's league Final vs the US , he gets done for pace. We can not play 2 slow CB in our backline , it's suicidal. Kamal Miller isn't great, but good and younger so we keep him. Yes of course Vitoria has great attributes that I like, but given his age. It's the perfect time to move on. Maybe Bambito could become that player or someone else. We need to move on. As the saying goes : the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over , and expecting a different result.
@greglawrence9230Ай бұрын
@@coulj6917 There is no question that we need someone else. We've been experimenting with others and should continue to bring others in (in friendlies, like the one in June). You don't just drop someone before you have the replacement. So who do you say has proven they are the replacement? Kaye needed to be replaced, so Kone was scouted and brought in - they traded off play time for a while until it was obvious that Kone could not onnly replicate what Kaye brought but indeed brought much more. That's how these things should go. Pointing to how far superior teams beat us is no reason to make this move at this time. It's merely popular and convenient, both of which serve Biello quite well. Vitoria is a proven and immensely reliable tool for the likes of a low ranked CONCACAF team like T&T. Instead, we're gambling on a must win match and opening a door for a team that should not be able to score on us at all. Don't fix what ain't broke, no?
@nsking992 ай бұрын
There's arguably more than enough experience in the squad as it is. All of those players have been through the gauntlet and it's time they step up. Maybe they have stepped up and that's why biello is confident in this squad. Eustaquio is easily the most influential player om the field, Larin has a wealth of experience, David is probably the cleverest player on the field, and Davies needs to learm how to influence play off the ball. Add in Miller, Oso, and Johnston, you have a fine leadership group. Vitoria was never the fastest and has slowed even more. Borjan has always beem erratic and we had other options that deserve a chance. Hoilett hasn't played recently and was poor vs Jamaica. We need this change. We need competition and fresh faces.
@greglawrence92302 ай бұрын
I can't recall a single time when Hoilett looked poor. His only fault is he's over 30.
@joelhooton22152 ай бұрын
Holliet is the one player I would hold onto, we need some experience in the squad and he brings quality in his distribution

@greglawrence92302 ай бұрын
He was getting enough minutes recently with Aberdeen to be fully ready to go. The man's delivery is spectacular and rock solid reliable, on both dead and live balls. I guess we get Russell-Rowe instead because he's young and has a fire or something? Wasn't his first touch for Canada an own goal?
@jrcanuck1Ай бұрын
Hoilett has also been the best on the Canadian squad at taking corners.
@keitakankam85622 ай бұрын
The best way to defend is to attack. It’s a qualifier and goals are very important in this crucial encounter. The players should play simple,communicate well on the pitch , should not underrate the opponent team, take every goalscoring Opportunities don’t give silly ,fault passes, be patience and should not delay when Canada is leading, defend as a unit, shot on target and play to their strength.
@greglawrence92302 ай бұрын
T&T will sit in a defensive block and look to frustrate Canada and counter. I do think Biello is likely to tell his players to push forward in attack, but this plays perfectly into T&T's game plan.
@gordwilkes2 ай бұрын
I'm concerned that Stephen Vitoria's omission might be too premature. He's been an anchor for us at CB for years now, experience is hard to replace in a game like this. So, these are the guys that our Copa America dreams are riding on, let's get behind them. There is so much at stake with this game for Canada Soccer.
@vigilante72 ай бұрын
Agree with this.
@djknox22 ай бұрын
100% agree. Qualifying for the Copa America is everything and failure will be devastating to Canada Soccer. Vitoria should be the captain and get us qualified. Then I wouldn't mind leaving him on the bench for a few friendlies to see how the blood manages... This is an unnecessary gamble.
@greglawrence92302 ай бұрын
It is unbelievably reckless and inexcusable, especially with Laryea AND Adekugbe unavailable. We have a friendly scheduled. That is the time to bring in whomever Biello thinks will successfully replace Vitoria. Why now? Because Biello has to make his moves quickly before someone else gets hired? Inexcusable.

So this game is the one where we decide to make a ton of changes? Seems to me that the friendly against Netherlands is the time give the new young players a chance, or the other friendlies that have been apparently lined up but not yet confirmed. These are a LOT of changes all at once. No matter how good each player is individually, if they don't have a shared understanding on the pitch...... My sense is that Biello did not previously have free reign to do what he wanted but with the new CEO coming in Biello has been told he should do what he thinks is best (to make his case for why he should get the permanent gig). In that case, the only way he wins is to make changes, cause if they win with the previous norm then he doesn't get credit. And he has to do it asap in order to have his chance. Is this what's best for Canada or for Biello? Huge risk here that seems totally unnecessary when friendlies are being lined up.
