Morning Courtney. Really helpful episode for us - especially newer owners. I agree. Tractors USED TO BE designed only for pulling. That is not the case anymore. They are DESIGNED and ENGINEERED to pull, push, lift and dig now. LOL - I will never forget the first time I tried to use and learn how to use a stump bucket. Yup, it was enough to make you wince. But hey, I figured it out like any other new attachment - the more you use it, the more you understand how to use it correctly. But for sure, I work mine hard too - I don't abuse it - cost me way too much money to abuse. But I make it work hard - everyday. That's why I bought it. My lil Jonny gets the best of care. All fluids changed on time, greasing, filters, washed, waxed, etc. Even sleeps in a heated space...That said, when lil Jonny and I are out in the yard, it's time to work. It gets used for everything it was made to do. Digging, pulling, lifting, mowing, blowing, pushing on whatever terrain I need to put it in. It isn't a commercial tractor, but in my residential world it works like one. Call that abuse if you want, I call it putting a great tool to good use. Lil Jonny works and plays hard, but is well taken care of at the end of the day. If you do, that it will take great care of you. Thanks for doing what you do sir.

The people calling this abuse are the same ones that drive lifted trucks but never take them off-road. As much as I would love to keep my tractor looking new and scratch free, it's a tractor and I bought it to work.

The problem is people know so many things that just aren't so. Stump buckets are tougher on a loader than moving mulch but not abusive. Most tractor owners will never wear out their machine in their lifetime unless they use them commercially, so some hard use becomes less of an issue. Keep up the good work Courtney.

I don't own a tractor, but my philosophy on equipment/tool use is: Quality machinery should stand up to hard use. If it doesn't then it's not a quality piece of machinery. If you pay budget prices then you get budget results. If you maintain the item properly then you're in the right.

Courtney they would not want to see me using the GWT stump bucket digging out limestone boulders! It handles with the ease. Still using the original cutting edge even after who knows how many boulders, lost count long ago. Have not damaged anything and I do it just like you were with the roots in your video. Excellent point about backing up with the tractor, even pushing to much with the 3PH can cause damage. Some tractor models handle pushing with the 3PH better than others. Just be careful like you said. Great video as always!

I just built my own stump bucket for my 3032E and I have already used it to dig up a couple shrubs and some small tree roots that would have taken me days to do by hand !! This ain't no garage queen she's here to work !!! Love my stump bucket and it coast me $14 dollars for bolts and mounts right to my pallet fork frame !!! We bought this little Stump "Wrecker" for our Kubota 2380 a year ago. In short, money well spent! It has paid for itself in work/man hours saved. (And yes, probably for Physical Therapy / Rehabilitation for pulled muscle / tissue.) And would recommend this attachment 24/7... 365! David & Jen P.S. Suggest you buy an additional sacrificial blade. For the work we have done with our mini.... I should have thought 5 years ahead and bought an extra blade (because I know / I feel it will need replacing about that time).

I never thought of the way you use your tractors as abuse Mr. Courtney, never. I’m rarely in 2 wheel drive because of our property. So I will need to watch out for that, thanks! My dealer had me send many videos to him when I was first using the grapple moving logs so he could show customers various sizes of logs. One learns quickly to have enough counter weight on the little guys and not to lift excessively high for the weight. One thing to note, I had to get a new differential. It wasn’t anything I did as I’m old and low and slow is my motto nowadays. It used to click all the time and then it started clicking and jumping a wee bit. One day it felt like I was on a horse that kicked out with both hind legs to the side, not fun. Though I’d been taking it back several times, they couldn’t replicate it. This last time they called me down and in less than a minute and five feet it finally did it in front of the mechanics. Fortunately they didn’t discount where I thought the issue was just because I’m a female. There was a lot of discussion on what they thought it might be but went ahead and looked at the differential and the gears were shot! The only thing they could come up with was inaccurate installment. They’d never seen a differential on a newer tractor in the shape it was in. But It doesn’t click and buck anymore and I’m having to get used to the new sound it makes.

Ignore the haters. I have a 70 hp skid steer and stump bucket. Your use and technique and bucket was appropriate for your size of equipment. Digging stumps is a difficult task for any machine ….. you just need to work within the capabilities of the machine.

I just bought one of your stump buckets for our school, and boy, that thing is a beast! I removed a 20-inch oak stump in about 30 minutes. Thanks for the safety tips. The only complaint I have is that there is a bit of a learning curve, but once you understand its use, it does a great job!

I have a Yanmar SA424 and it has "popped" 30+ stumps, of varying sizes and difficulty, out of the ground along with everything else I use it for. Should I use it for that? Not necessarily. Does it work wonders and save me tons of time and money when I use patience and some common sense? Absolutely. Thanks for the level-headed response and good tips to the more 'novice' users.

Hello, Nice video, and I totally agree with you on what concernes the stump bucket use and other R&D built in safety features. But I would never mount the widest wheel spacers. They are very efficient for stability but they will reduce rear axle life time by half and they do come in to our J.D. repair shop here in Belgium with leaks and premature damage. They are comparable to what you mentioned in this video having a too long stump bucket and not having enough rod length in te cilinder. I'm not allowed to go into detail, but the axles just aren't made for this use. We refuse warranty when we see them mounted. Cheers from Belgium.

The loader and tractor are designed by engineers and years of experience. It will not let you lift anything that the tractor and axle is not rated for. It's not abuse. It's normal use. Keep up the good work and videos.

I watched an guy the other day removed an stump. After reading the headline. First. There was no way. Same as watching the videos on the bucket one. If I had the tractor to handle the bucket one. I personally would buy one in an heartbeat. The other tractors made for say removing stumps is well beyond what I personally can afford. This attachment I can. It works proven on this channel. The other guy. He uses an floor jack. Around 6 inch stump. Please keep selling these. Take care.

I recently purchased the stump bucket. I think the lead time said 6 weeks but got it in just over 2 weeks. Great product and was able to dig some smaller stumps in my yard and will use to remove stumps and roots in food plots at our hunting property. I agree, the tractor itself will limit you when you try to push it too far. I bought the tractor to do real work and that is what I saw when you were digging the roots and stumps and it has worked really well for me on my 2032R.

Because of your videos, I got BORA wheel spacers for my VERY tippy RK21 that I lifted a wheel off the ground more than once. When I lifted BOTH left tires off the ground just hitting a small dip on sloped gound, and ALMOST went over, I got 2" spacers. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I also filled my rear tires with -20 degree winshield washer fluid beforehand that helped with the FEL, but not the tip-over danger. I also learned from another video (yours I think) to put some weight material in the FEL when using my boxblade. THANKS!!

Great points, especially regarding the extension of the curl cylinders. My Ford 1700 tractor is 40 years old and has worked hard and done great through it. It isn’t pretty, but it runs well and does the job. The loader frame is welded and sistered with steel angles where it has cracked from hard use and fatigue from vibration over 40 years (2 cylinder diesel isn’t as smooth as modern 3 cylinder machines), the bucket has been welded too. Otherwise, it keeps humming along and taking what I throw at it.

So, I realize that the last couple of years have been quite the challenge for some of us, and absolutely horrible for many who have had to deal with loss of family and property. I’m stunned, however, at the amount of general rudeness, hate, and complete lack of kindness that seems to be one of the worst underlying consequences of living through this whole mess. And I mean it’s EVERYWHERE!!! Unfortunately, it’s become the norm, for me anyway, to just expect to be treated poorly, and receive shitty service or product by damn near everyone I encounter these days. I have a Mid-Sized truck that I bought new a few years ago that is just rolling over 80k miles (still darn new by truck standards). She has tow maxed out trailers from the Gulf Up to the Middle East coast… an RV up and down the East Coast repeatedly… and that Same RV from the East Coast up to the Pacific NW over multiple mtn chains… down hwy 101 to The Cali Redwoods… then out to Moab, UT for some serious off-roading trails… then over all of them mtn chains and many national parks back to the East coast. I am now sitting in the mountains in Virginia in the RV actually. I just take care of it… go slow… and keep it well within its limits.

I just bought a new 1025R up here near Lansing, and the first thing I did was use the forks to tear apart a parts truck Lol. There's a fine line between using them as intended, and abusing 'em. I can attest to the issues that may arise with backing an implement on the three-point hitch. Using my box blade in reverse, moving a full volume of dirt, I bent the turnbuckle style stabilizer arms, not once, but twice. The first time I noticed the damage, though minor, it was a mystery as to what caused it. Live and learn. After experiencing the problem a second time, rather than repairing the turnbuckle, I opted for retrofitting the three-point hitch with the telescopic style arms, which are much more robust. The hitch, though somewhat capable in reverse use, is designed for pulling, not so much pushing.

I have a bx23s, and I have this attachment. It works amazingly. I I have pulled 8 trees, and so many large bushes on rough 13 acres. It has 400 hours, nothing is broken except my fan, which was from a stick...these work great on the small tractors for cheap money!!!

As to your remark on using four wheel drive all the time I agree. Along with the wear and tear. And the front wheels being hard on the turf while mowing. I have noticed a big difference in fuel economy. Especially while mowing or running at high RPMs. At $5.50 a gallon for diesel it makes a difference. And no I wouldn't call that abuse.

Yes, there IS a difference between use & abuse! My father was a professional mechanic & he paid a premium price for his tools because he used them to make his living. Some might have even considered some of the things he did with them "abuse", but ultimately, they were there to be used in the way he saw fit to use them. If someone doesn't want to use their tools in the manner that you do, that's fine. But if by "abusing" them you have to pay a higher cost, than that's a decision each individual has to make at that time. This is why we had a "Battle Short" switch on our generators in the military. It bypasses ALL faults that would normally shut the unit down protectively, like over voltage, over heat, low fuel, all the faults EXCEPT overspeed & short circuit, which could cause harm or death of people. In other words, if we needed to in a drastic situation, we could work the unit beyond what it was designed to do. Good luck & God bless! 🤠

Totally agree I love this little tractor and use it as much a possible. After owning it for only 9 months I had a 150 hours on it with out any issues and I worked it hard but not abused it I built a stump bucket for it and kept it short for the reasons you mentioned. I dug out a 20 old cherry tree stump that was 24 inches across in very rocky soil here in north east Pa with no problem at all had to roll it away to avoid damaging the tractor. JD 1025 R

I am a heavy equipment operator. That is what I do for a living really the only abuse I see here is on the operator. Is the tractor kind of small dig some of those stumps out? Maybe, the only thing that’s really going on here is it just takes longer to do the job and has already was said when the implements are long and you’re pulling in yanking on some thing that’s when you have to worry about damaging the tractor. Like you said it is very short and stubby which helps with the leverage. Other than that nothing really wrong with what he’s doing everybody just thinks it’s abuse because of its size it really takes some work to get those stumps out of the ground.

Just beginning to learn what my tractor can do, but you are right - slow down, pay attention, and I would add listen. I've found that the tractor will let me know when it is struggling. When it does, I back off and try another angle. Also the points about working in low and knowing when to use 4-wheel drive are equally important (and highlighted in the manual).

Well after 4 years of owning a compact Kubota and being a first time owner and user, I still consider myself a novice and a learner; definitely not an expert in any way. Further my setup is a lot of money for and to me. I want this to be a lifetime investment for my family and I to make our lives easier. I am very, very respectful to my tractor. I am careful and cautious and gingerly explore its capabilities and limits to optimize the balance between conserving its capabilities and longevity against maximizing its use m efficiency, and capabilities. So, I am vigorous when I need to be but I am probably more cautious than I need to be. I do not want to have to pay for costly repairs when I do not need to. I mean I wash and wax my tractor a couple of times over the summer. Mine is almost exclusively for personal snow clearing. I can assure you that I would not have sunk in excess of $70k on my setup if I had to keep it in bubblewrap. Perhaps my perspective is invalid which I will leave for others to judge. But I agree with you. Use, but do not be cavalier about making good use of your significant investment. Excellent work and perspectives, as always, sir.

Courtney As a retired engineer you are right on. The hydraulics and structure are designed for this "abuse". Sacrificial piece are designed so as not to overload. As long as there are no add ons to sup it up then alls good. Now it doesn't mean that there won't be design issues for unforseen uses, 😉.

AMEN! A tractor is supposed to be USED. I just dug a giant stump out of a friend's yard today with my 1025r w/front end loader and backhoe. If I could post a pic here I would. Took a little longer than a giant excavator or full sized backhoe. But it got the job done WAY faster than a shovel, spade, pickaxe, chainsaw, and an aging back. Job done!

I use my tractor. It gets used to its fullest ability and then some. You weren’t doing anything but normal work. You are 100% right. It’s made to do work and that means getting dirty and getting it done. Garage queens are fine too. But my tractor does work.

Courtney, I as a retired farmer would not say you were abusing your little lawn tractor. But definitely you are shorting its life span. I have read about those little tractors breaking in half!?!?!? When I was farming I had a D6 CAT for the abusive work. Thats where CAT made its name.

Great video Court. I’d like to ask about the GWT stump bucket. Is it possible to use that to dig out stones? Maybe up to 2-300lbs? I’m looking to level some land at my cabin. Tractor is a CK3510. I know In a perfect world an excavator would be the way to go, however I can’t justify the cost for just a few small jobs. Therefore I’m wondering what you’d recommend. I was also thinking just a set of short pallet forks. I’m sure glad I watched this video. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve said this more times than I can recall… my father-in-law has a scut with 14k hours on it, and those have been very, very hard hours. He grew up around farm equipment, and knows what is abusive and what is just hard work. Some people are just victims of analysis paralysis.

There's a loader on it. Use it. Best time to see if it works for what you need it to, is right off in the warranty period. My Tractor dealer told me to work my tractor as hard as needed. So that's what they are for.

I didn't read the comments from the last video but based on what you read, what do you do with a tractor? Park it in a garage or shed, polish the paint once a week and gee it sure is pretty! Don't ever use it but it looks good. Now who am I going to pay to dig out those stumps? I used to be able to do it myself but injuries and age keep me from doing this sort of labor. Oh yeah, I really would like to get the stump out before my grandkids grow up. What a joke! All the armchair, non-tractor owning trolls attempting to interject their stupidity into a well done job! Got a 1025R with the backhoe. Have used both and I prefer the backhoe. Would like to see a pump with bigger gears so I can operate two circuits simultaneously; such as lift/lower and dump/curl to maintain a level bucket. Don't need more pressure, just volume. Besides the belly mower, do they make attachments for the mid PTO like a power generator or an auxiliary hydraulic pump for 3rd functions?

Hydrosplus has several pump upgrades to solve that problem. You can make 4 motions with the backhoe simultaneously with biggest pump.

The largest form of abuse can be letting someone borrow it! It's a lot less nerve racking just go give them a hand and operate it yourself. I have one friend that I will allow to use my tractor, but he owns the same model as I do, he just doesn't have a backhoe. He also has operated tractors a lot longer than me. Other than that, no one is using my machine unless I am present.

where you hit the front frame of the tractor on the stump. could that move the quick connect mower deck hooks on the front back to contacting the tie rod steering bar? not much clearance there to begin with? asking because I just bought a 2014 john deere 1026 and the back of those front hooks rub on the tie rod bar. how do you fix this issue? have learned so much from your vids keep up the great work

Abuse I think not, Hard use maybe, A tractor is not like a Harley Davidson that is pushed out of the garage on a sunny Sunday afternoon and admired over a few cold adult beverages and never properly used. It is a tool to be used to accomplish tasks MUCH easer than by hand. Thank you for your insight and hard work.

You’ve got to know your limits and the machines limits. There are tractor drivers and tractor operators-I try to be a good operator
