Hi there! 👋🏻 We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old 🥰 Over the years we've raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We've also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!
Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most -- which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don't worry, we'll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat's milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt -- and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. 🥰

Lola and Honey definitely are my faves. I'm glad you're keeping Tatum a bit longer. I remember when she was growing up and was stuck to Tilly every waking moment. Gonna miss her! Can't wait for the baby goats to possibly get to play in the drained pond!!!!

Oh wow- the shot with Reba and Daphne in the milking stand together really showed how much Reba got her mom's udder! She's looking phenomenal! I do remember when you first freshened Tilly you thought she was a pretty weak milker, but her production was a lot higher the next few years.. wonder if that's sorta a dominant trait that she keeps passing down

Hi Danelle, A trick with muffins is to barely mix your batter the less you mix even if there is bits of flour still evident the better the muffins will be Not mixing the batter thoroughly won’t ruin your end result . Cheers Kylie from Australia 🇦🇺

Brown sugar actually has a lot of moisture in it, so add it into the wet. Gradually fold in the dry about 1/2 cup at a time. Gently fold mulberries in. Don't fill the muffin paper. Good luck!

cookery student/chef here, the trick with muffins is actually under mixing them! you actually want to see a little bit of unmixed flour with muffins. its fine to mix it fully with cupcakes but not muffins!! hope that helps! :)

When I went to college, and left my mom in charge of watering my plants in Florida. When I came home for Christmas everything was dead. You're doing 100% better.

Gina just a hint..... buy 2 of the large muffin tins which make 6 muffins at a time. Mix the sugar, eggs, and all the wet ingredients first then add the dry ingredients. The batter will seem thicker to you I think. I then fold in the berries at the end so they stay whole. I fill the muffin tin to 3/4 full. My muffin recipe will make 6 at a time but you might like to do a double batch thus buying 2 pans. When they bake they will fill the whole cup. I usually just spray mine with pam and do not use papers then let them cool for maybe 5 minutes, use a butter knife to go around each one and then pop them out and finish cooling on a rack. Enjoy here in Minnesota we love our berries too!

Mulberries freeze really well. Wash and drain really well, trim the stalks and single layer on lined trays. They can then be used like any frozen berries. Yum.

My daughter ran off to college leaving me to care for dogs, cats and rabbits. As the years passed, her home interests faded more and more, living with friends her last 2 summers of college. Little by little the number of pets have gone down. Who knew when your kids are 10ish, the pets they select, become yours for life. You can save up all that fluff you are getting from brushing the goats and have it spun into yarn. Years ago I had two Old English Sheepdogs and I saved bags of their "wool" from brushing them and sent it to a woman who spun it into yarn. Then I gave the yarn to a friend who knitted, and she made me a beret type hat out of it. One sheepdog was gray and white, the other was dark charcoal/ black and white, so the resulting yarn and hat looked like black and gray and white tweed. The Sheepdogs are long gone but of course I still have the hat! (And a ball of left over yarn.)

Not a goat comment, although I love every single one of them the cutest ever To help with baking sugar is always considered as a wet ingredient, not dry. Just try mixing it with butter/yogurt/oil first next time you will see a difference in the result

If my mom were still around, she would so sympathize with your pigeon situation. When I was a freshman in college, I went w/ my farmgirl friends at Easter while they bought baby bunnies to take home. I couldn't resist & bought one. No one in my family much liked animals or wanted them & my parents were pretty pissed at me, but there was not much we could do. I couldn't have it in the dorm, so they had to keep it, but eventually let it go out in the country. So they told me. Kids!! Well, maybe this is a start for Ethan having his own farm, raising pigeons instead of goats! Danelle---did you ever do anything like that to your parents? I bet you did...

Danelle, in regards to baking, you might try a combination of baking soda AND baking powder. One provides a quick rise and the other provides a slow rise. Using both can often make them puff up super big. On the other hand, if you're using too much baking powder, you may make them flat. I do not know why this works this way, I'm not a big baker either. I just never had to patience and also wasn't taught growing up. The only thing I can make well is corn bread and I just use Adler's basic recipe, it's the best. Best of luck in future endeavours with baking.

I make mulberry jam when I get too many mulberries. A giant pot, rinsed mulberries and piles of white sugar. About equal amounts of fruit and sugar. I bring to the boil then drop back to simmer three times after the sugar melts. Strain it so all the stems come out. Put into jars and close lid while hot. Place in fridge when cool. It is a lovely sweet yet sharp jam. However it is soft and easy to spread from the fridge. I make huge batches as my family love it on toast, on yogurt and a teaspoon dropped into warm milk as a treat for children. I don’t put lemon or pectin in my jams. But my family hate hard jams. But you can always find good jam recipes. My mother and grandmother would also remind me that here we call jam with fruit flesh in jam and strained using cheesecloth is a jelly.
