Washboards: Good clean fun

Had my mom send me a washboard during the first gulf War. Definitely came in handy. Still have it hanging on my wall. Great piece of kit to have.

I know people get a kick out of flashy, busy, show boat type players but I like to play like it's a snare drum. My function is to hold the whole band together by communicating the beat by tapping, with an occasional roll (slow scratching) and a little artistic emphasis by tapping on the tin cans I have attached. Keeping it simple and functional.

Is there such a thing as a tap dancing washboard player? I have never seen such a performer. Seems like a rhythmically inclined percussionist/dancer would be worth his or her weight in gold down in the Big Easy.

My husband and I just started a duo to play in senior facilities. I usually play guitar, but we add other instruments for fun, like penny whistle and my husband's "1/2 inch socket wrench" (really my slide bar for songs like "He's in the jailhouse now"). But you guessed it, the biggest hit is bringing out the washboard at the end -- Way Downtown is the song we're currently using it on, complete with a washboard solo. You should see the smiles when we bring out that washboard!

OMG Buy a washboard !!!! I bought a small one recently for hand washables and it is astonishing how effective it is to get clothes clean !!! It is one of the best purchases I have made in years !!!!!

I remember my mom using a washboard. I think she used it in a #3 washtub and after rinsing she wrung them out by hand and hung them on the line to dry. She usually used homemade lye soap. I'm a retired technician and would love to see the machines and process. I do wish them well. Side note the #3 washtub also served as our bathtub.

I wonder if they are sold internationally. I know in Mexico many women still wash by hand, even if they have a washing machine. They feel the machine doesn't do a good enough job. But they have certain sinks with a washboard design, most don't buy a separate washboard. Anyway, now I want one.

The sad thing is..that some people have bucket issues and their machine washer breaks down with the 15 billion people out there.....so...for music, restaurants, and old decorations, and usege....you should update the things to actually work on side too?
