Washed out perform their new song 'Eyes be closed' for Guardian Music. Frontman and main member Ernest Greene talks about the process of writing the song.
Described as chillwave, Washed Out began in 2009 and he received a lot of attention from music bloggers who descovered the music on myspace.
The debut album, Within and Without, was released on 11 July 2011.

This song speaks to me. I just recently lost a pet after having him only 4 years... a short, sweet life. I hope his death was freeing and full of clarity and love as this song says. I miss him so. This song means a lot to me.

First, to Ernest and his band, really an awesome awesome tune. One that has reached into me somehow. The lyrics- What seems passed about on line everywhere for the lyrics seem wrong in not one but several places! Is there anywhere the real lyrics for the song? Please??

Sometimes listening to these live cuts helps to piece together some lines. Sometimes, though, I wonder if Ernest changes up certain phrasings just to keep us guessing...

It's an interesting version of the song, but what really gives that song lift are the electronic drums on the track. Mixing down the drums changes the whole emotional feel of the song. I still like it, it's just different.

I know.. all the lyric sites seem to have several of the lyrics flat out wrong. I desperately want to know the lyrics... as much to understand it. The song seems to have some actual meaning to it that's more than skin deep. So.......... yeah.. How about some lyrics guys? Please?

I think that's intentional... I also think he changes up the lyrics from one version to the next just to keep everyone guessing.... eg. in this version, I agree he says " your words will come to life / your choice will guide", but in the album version it sounds more like "your words will call to mind / your short, sweet life"

I have 15 keyboard players in my funking band. Just a pity I’m fucking shit, ugly and can’t even play the tambourine never mind a keyboard. Actually my own band sacked me so there’s now just Fortean fucken keyboard players in my band and discounting the fuct I was never good enough to actually be a keyboarder, that makes just thirteen.
