Washing an Old English Sheepdog┃

For this Friday video, we thought we would take you along on what it looks like to bathe an Old English Sheepdog, in this case we are washing #ourdogWallace. Every wonder what it looks like to bath an Old English Sheepdog in a common bathroom?
If you own (or are thinking of owning) an Old English Sheepdog, you need to know that it takes time to care for them!
It is a huge part of owning an Old English Sheepdog when you want their hair/fur to be long (which is how most everyone thinks of the breed - WITH LONG HAIR), you need to know that it takes time, consistency with brushing & de-matting, wiping & cleaning the beard area, bathing, trimming the pads, etc... This breed is not for everyone, but for those who choose to do the work it is SOOOOOO WORTH IT! They are seriously real-life teddy bears!
As you start watching, you will soon find out that we had to speed up the process, as the whole bathing & drying process takes a few hours! (yep HOURS) & we do plan to get drenched in water - which is why Ed is wearing his bathing suit!

My OES LOVED baths. Loved swimming. Loved going for walks. Loved going for rides. Loved going to the Vet. LOVED LOVED LOVED going to the groomer. She was a joy. Traveled across country with her several times. Twice in a Corvette no less!

Romeo is 8 months old and has a bit of "Dennis the Menace" in him. He is a keeper even if we need all new furniture. Probably should have named him "Chewey" :)

I think all old English sheepdogs hate baths. I have an old English called rosie she absolutely hates baths she gets all grumpy and once she's finally in she looks like we're torturing her! Gotta love these bears ❤

Yes, I would love to know what products you are using-both the shampoos and the brushes/combs. He is a gem and whatever you are using, it seems to work well. He is so bright!

What shampoo did you use? For the white hair, I like to use Christensen's White on White. Although its used for horses, I also use Cowboy Magic. Makes a sheepie smell really great. Did you use any conditioner? My groomer baths the dog in conditioner to get out any mats. Works great.

We take our sheepie to a do-it-yourself dog wash place! They let us use a powerful dog hair dryer that gets him dry much faster than a regular hair dryer so it only takes about an hour to bathe him from start to finish! Plus less clean up 😊

i am kace and i am 9 years old and i got my oes about two months ago and he sort of picked me and i new i was keping him as soon as i saw him and he was born on december 25 of 2019 we have bathed him once or twice cause my mom is a dog groomer and it only takes us about 1 hour and the drying for like another hour how long does it take you guys?

I adopted one of these teddy bears a month ago. The adoption center told me she was 3, took her to the vet to find out she was barely 1 haha I was not prepared for a puppy but I'm so happy I got her, NEVER dull moment. Anyhow, she's finally healed from an abrasion caused by a reaction to the glue on her chip. She's past due for a bath and brush! The vet said she's so matted that I should shave her down and start over with her hair, I don't want to bc I believe there's hope. Does a bath and brush get out matting? I'm planning to brush while she's wet, maybe that'll also help?

It’s best to brush when they are dry and use a little dog conditioner mixed with water in a spray bottle and work through the mats that way. Getting them wet will just tighten the mats. You can also cut out the really bad mats if you can’t get them out with a brush. Hope this helps. We are so excited for you! We have 2 OES now and they are the best!!

Beautiful dog, great haircut. Most OES have a lot of rust staining on their muzzle hair....your's doesn't.

There’s white and bright shampoo and you can also comb out with corn starch!

how old is your OES? He looks pretty small compared to mine who is 2 years old. I also have a german shepherd who is 10 years old but smaller than any german shepherd we'd ever seen.
