Thanks for the tip! I've always used oil but on long hot days it never worked that well. This last week I used your bentonite/dirt trick on a couple 12hr days with no washout in-between jobs. You saved me from an hour of chipping with pry bar.

I find oil works okay for quicker jobs, but as you had mentioned, we too will roll dirty between 2-3 jobs in a day and come washout time bentonite is a godsend. Veteran operator taught me the bentonite trick a few years back. So much to be learned from the old dogs of concrete pumping.

You could always bring the boom around and recirculate the concrete to freshen the grill and hopper up, or when you got mixer on back move the shoot around to put fresh concrete all over

100% needs a pay raise, if not…. a lucrative endorsement deal from a major manufacturer (eg: complimentary one year lease on brand new pump) 😂 Appreciate you watching brother 🙏

Ran pump for about 10 years prior to a fellow operating teaching me this technique, probably could saved me a couple hundred hours of hopper jackhammering 😂😂😂

@@canadianconcretepumper1979 I hear that! Today was my second day on a pump after a 5 years of no pumping. I got the dreaded steel pin mix with 3 moves inside of a building…my supervisor was there to help out, so it all went surprisingly well. Not a terrible wash out either! I know that hopper will need major tlc from previous neglect though 😅

Interesting, I’ve just had a buddy tell me that he’s been using that Slick Willy prime pack powder in a similar fashion. I tried it and it worked great yesterday on a long all day pour.
@canadianconcretepumper19792 жыл бұрын
I can imagine that would work very similarly to the bentonite. Being the cheap skate that I am, I just LOVE the pricing point on the bentonite 😁😁😁

What if you threw bentonite on the oil after spraying it?
@ThePorkchop812 жыл бұрын
Also. I like the rubber around the bottom of the hopper
@canadianconcretepumper19792 жыл бұрын
@@ThePorkchop81 Doesn't stick so well to the oil (I've tried). I have however sprayed the bentonite layer lightly with oil once it has turned to mud after the spraying of water. This actually did work quite well.

We use used engine oil spray on hopper and will not stick concrete on walls of hopper
@canadianconcretepumper19792 жыл бұрын
We’ve tried that but due to environmental concerns (resulting oil slick when washing out) it was very quickly kiboshed.

Very Interesting! I wish I would have known this before boom pumping auger cast piling the other day. we had a mess, no wonder they use trailer pumps for those types of jobs. That video should be out soon also, just a bit more editing.

Looking forward to watching it! We do a ton of slow pours with our own residential placing crew, so I’ve had “ample” opportunity to R&D different methods of jackhammer-proofing the hopper 😂

When u washing out Finnish. Can u put the benternite on & leave overnight & put more on at next job. Great stuff maty reagards Les 👍🏴❤️🇬🇧🇨🇦👍
@canadianconcretepumper19792 жыл бұрын
You absolutely could. The only thing I find with the bentonite is that it will leave surface rust on the bare metal of the hopper (likely even more so if you left it in overnight). Not a big deal aside from the cosmetic aspect of it all.

Try a few shovels full of sand. Mist it so it'll hold shape, think sand castle consistency. Spread it in your hot spot areas, thin layer between auger and hopper up the back and sides, under your s tube etc. Pack it down with your hand, doesn't need to get too crazy. I've gone 15hrs with 2%, when cleaning up your water washes out that sand from underneath the concrete which will crumble and fall right out
@canadianconcretepumper19792 жыл бұрын
We used sand for years until we moved to our new yard location and no longer have pracitical storage space for it. I always found with the sand that it would pull the moisture from the concrete adjacent to it thus causing it to set quicker. It was however easy to wash out, just punch through the thin layer of concrete and it all falls out. Honestly though, fresh topsoil (nice and light) is the ultimate. Just gotta know how to sweet talk any landscapers on site, lol!!!
