There is no “wrong way”. Also, “washing” rice is such a dumb thing to say. You are not washing you are RINSING the rice. Using the term eash makes it seem like you wash rice to “clean” dirt out of it. This is not the case, you rinse rice to lower its starch content. White rice is just rice without the bran and germ or the more nutritious parts. Since it was such a staple of japanese diets it's change to being processed as white rice ( was seen as fancy ...ect by lower and middle class and grew to love it more ) meant lower nutrients in their diets and it caused some illnesses. If I remember correctly they tried to do what the US did by fortifying the rice after processing , but old habits die hard so everyone was just washing away those nutrients. Washing your rice was initially done to further clean it because bugs could get in ,the person who farmed/milled it ..ect may not have been thorough in trying to get particulates out.

Wrong. Washing rice isn't needed, the rice isn't actually dirty. Thats starch. For western dishes I would suggest not rinsing rice, though asian dishes you should so its authentic to each culture.

Real Asians don’t actually wash the rice until the water is completely pure. We actually keep a bit of that murky thing since it has nutrients like B vitamin in it. Believe me I’ve been washing rice like that for 10 or 20 years and none of my family members have had any health problems 😅

I remember that time my mom came home early in the morning after going to those night market events and woke me to cook rice while she prepare the meats and veggies ,but since i literally just woken up i forgot to wash it and not even put some water, just straight up rice grains in the cooker. After a few minutes my mom complained that something smells burning, after she found out i received the old slipper attack but we both laughed at it even till this day when i mention it.

@@richiejohnson I’m speaking from experience. Go ahead, try making two batches of rice with one having the rice weighed out and another having rice scooped from the bag with a measuring cup. Unless you’re accommodating for the extra rice you have with extra water (via the finger test method or just eyeballing it ), it’s not going to be enough. It literally makes more sense to just eyeball it. But if you want to be precise, weighing your rice is always the way to go. 🤷‍♂️

Just as a random side tangent, if you are using enriched rice, be sure to check your bag to see if you should actually wash it or not. Most enriched rices have the extra nutrients as dust on the grain, and washing just removes it.
