I did this yesterday! Your directions were spot on and my blinds came out beautiful. White White!! I washed with Woolite, OxyClean and white vinegar in the softener cycle. Tried the handwash cycle, but it still left stains, so bumped it up to the casual cycle w/low spin...came out PERFECT. I had 26 blinds, split them into two wash loads, loosely rolled in pillow case and towel wrapped. Hung them over the bathroom shower curtain rods to dry, lightly steam pressed and hung. BEAUTIFUL! Thank YOU!

Absolutely fantastic. You are a very clever person. Thanks to you I no longer have to put up with dirty horrible blinds. We have been renting our house for 4yrs and I have hated the blinds and felt so ashamed of them. Now they look like new and guess what we have to move out!!! LOL At least I can leave the place looking clean and will know what to do if we move into another place with vertical blinds.. It all works brilliantly as long as you follow the instructions to the letter.

I found this ingenious method of cleaning blinds when I was looking on youtube for an instruction to get them down from the rail. It worked well for me when they were only dusty. Had to still scrub some that had dirt stuck and a bit of mould on them. However, I did not read the comments before and used the wool wash program. My washing machine does not have a low or no spin selection. So I just made sure I was there to move the dial forward before the machine started spinning. Many thanks!

When it came time to wash my fabric vertical blinds, I thought to myself, why not the washing machine? So I Googled it first & found this video, Put all slats stacked on top each other in the pillowcase, folding them in thirds, careful not to crease any of them. Tied the pillowcase & threw them in with other whites with cold water on delicate cycle, 42 minutes. My machine had no option to skip the spin cycle, so I set it on low speed spin & they did not thump because it was a full load & balanced. They came out beautifully, hung them wet and they are perfec! A few slats had a string here & there on the edge, I just cut them off. Worked for me! Will definitely do it again!

Excellent results with some really grubby and neglected verticals. So glad the l saw this site before l put the lot into the bath. Much easier than dragging heavy, water-filled blinds out to spread to dry somewhere. Thanks very much from Aussiedeb. Cheers!

Thank you for your tutorial, it’s been a massive help. I’d recently moved house and the blinds in the living room there were heavily stained with nicotine and god knows what so they looked really disgusting. I did two washes of 15 slats and used a pillow protector case doubled up over the curled up slats, used a wool cycle (with no spin) which lasted for about 38mins and they’ve really cleaned up well! One or two have slight un threading but considering they were about 8-9 years old I think they’ve come off really well! 👍🏻

Thanks for this. I was thinking I'd have to wipe down each panel individually. This video saved me a Sunday afternoon. How i did it: I used rope (as I have no hair) to tie pillow case I used a 'delicate wash' program on my machine without a spin placed three towels in the load Out come: brighter a little fraying (was already frayed. Cheap verticals maybe) no more dust!!!!!! I'll probably sleep better without sneezing now, yeeeee haaaaaaaa!

This worked very well. I put 4 verticals in each pillow slip, I have a top loader machine so it wasn't unbalanced. The hard part was getting the weights back in. The next lot i washed I didn't take them out.
@Tomteeejay12 жыл бұрын
Good tip. You just have to be careful. For those nervous washers try one or two in the wash first. If your machine or setting chews them up then you won't have to replace them all. I used a wash bag/net with a zip, blinds tied together and delicate setting at 40 degrees with no spin. If your blind weights are removable then take them out. Re-insert weights and line dry . My blinds dried with no creases.
@evedderrocks14 жыл бұрын
When I bought my house 4 years all the verticals needed cleaning so I put them in a pillow slip gentle wash spun them out hung them back on the windows to dry, perfect. Because of strict water restriction using a hose was out of the question.

@Samanti85 yehh absolutely. a toploader would probably be a better idea as theyd be soaking in the water rather than bashing around. you could use a regular cycle on cold i think. u would need to throw in some wet towels to balance the load during spin tho. hope this helped and good luck.

I would split them into two loads and not close the pillow case so tightly. Leave room for actual washing. Then hang to dry. Same with most drapes. I machine wash mine regularly, including fabric shower curtains. The plastic liner I just throw away if too gross; otherwise, plastic liners can also be washed in the washing machine, just throw in some old rags or towels with it and hang to dry.

It sounds as though they were made from cotton or a cotton mixture. I've been looking on ebay for some vertical blinds and most sellers say that the material is "Fabric". ALL material is fabric as the 2 words are for the same thing so ignorant sellers don't help

@craigduncan01 Oh im sorry to hear they didnt turn out very clean:( Do you know how old the blinds are, maybe that has something to do with the fraying. Great idea! I will try it. I live in an apartment building and the laundry room has top load washers. I wanted to also give a tip out there for some of you regarding cleaning them. I would suggest spraying your vertical blind slats for 15 minutes before washing them with a solution. I live in California and we have a store called the 99 cent store or you can find it in the Dollar Tree store. It is this solution called "Awesome." It is great! It removes all kinds of stains. Great product. I think that would help tremendously. By the way, I just discovered a repair kit for broken plastic vertical blinds. That is how I ended up on this washing vertical blinds video. There is a repair kit called vane saver. You can find it at Lowes or Home depot, amazon too. There is a video here on youtube.com.
